Re: Jansen Released!
wanna bet? I think enough teams have prepared for the uncapped year that it will take a miracle to make it happen now. No way in hell does Danny Boy vote for a cap unless the agreement is astoundingly one-sided in the owner's favor.
Danny Boy is one of 32 owners in the league and in the minority that would want no cap, if he wants no cap. The problem is the rookies get to much money to sign. Even the players agree with this and want some of that money to go to veterans. I dont think it is a given. I think them cutting Jansen is in some way evidence that they will get a deal done. |
Re: Jansen Released!
Man, didn't really see that coming, I figured next year but with their talks of versatility/backup C or guard he'd still be here this year, especially with the cap hit. Jon's a tough guy, not as consistent anymore but still tough and sounded like he had put some effort into this offseason and was determined to win the spot; said he'd be playing no matter what team it was for.
I'm kind of neutral on the move right now. |

dan is freeing up money to get Vick.... J/k lol

Re: Jansen Released!
Based on this article; Zorn was the one who wanted the FO to release Jansen..

Even Ceratto wouldn't have his mind on that at the moment, unless it was an afterthought and the cap guys said it'd make sense. |
Re: Jansen Released!
Surprised but also bittersweet. I am happy they could do it now and give him a shot to grab on with another team. I am happy to be done with watching him be awful. I am sad because before he was awful he was pretty damn good for a long time and really one of those core guys that Gibbs talked about.
My sentiments exactly (btw, how is it you are not a mod?) Jansen was a 4 yr starter at Mich, never missed a game, came here and started as a rookie from day 1. Hate to see him go but, football wise, it needed to happen. Now his fat contract will be off the books |
Re: Jansen Released!
As much as I respect Jansen as a person who gives his all, this is a great move by the skins. if Jansen had stayed, he would have taken up a roster spot and been someone we never ever wanted to see step on the field - at any position.
Cutting Jansen may create a cap hit, but its one we can afford and it means we can keep an extra young guy on the roster. Our PS squad was raided for good O-linemen last year because we had old declining guys like Jansen wasting a roster spot. More than anything, i'm glad because this means that we're able to keep Edwin Williams on the active roster, so he can hopefully replace Rabach in a year or two. With Jansen on the roster, theres a good chance he would have been put on the PS and signed to someones active roster fairly quickly. |

Re: Jansen Released!
I am really gonna miss him as a Redskin but his play has declined to a point where I think he might be done with football altogether. I wish him the best in whatever he does next.
One a brighter point this means that we are confident in the other guys we have. It is one more roster spot for a lineman. I think Devin Clark or Batiste must be showing something. |
Re: Jansen Released!
Sorry to see a true Redskin go but this doesn't surprise me. He simply can't pass protect anymore and watching DE's run around JJ and clobber JC isn't a good thing. Everyone's day comes and today was JJ's. I hope he gets into broadcasting.
It sounds like they did it the right way:

Snyder, head coach Jim Zorn and executive vice president of football operations Vinny Cerrato at Redskins Park on Friday morning. 'I’ve developed a close relationship with Jon and his family over the last 10 years and I have the utmost respect for him as a person and a player,' Snyder said. 'He has been an important part of our organization for the past decade. We wish Jon and his family the very best.'”
Not trying to bash the FO, but I want to hear from Jansen. You can say all the right things, but if done in the wrong way, he could still be bitter. I really would like to think that they did, again even holding out 980 as an olive branch. EDIT: I read the Post article by Jason Reid, and all the press releases sound right. Glad to see Jansen getting the respect from the team. |

Re: Jansen Released!
I would like to see him on the Redskins Post Game Live. Having him and B Mitch on there would be good. People have been saying that he need to go for awhile but others were saying that his cap hit would be too big.
Most of us agree that he was a good player and a repectable man who's time has come. Strahan said that Jansen was the toughest guy he ever had to face. I'll miss him but not at the expense of the team. |
Re: Jansen Released!
It didn't surprise me that he was cut, but that he was cut so soon now that's what surprised me...but that was probably because of the June 1 deadline and the respect they have for him to possibly catch on with another team...sounds like heyer bridges or Williams will be starting RT this year looks good, plus they're all younger than Jansen anyway
