Re: Best 5 Moves of Dan Snyder Era
If we're going to blame it on anyone it should fall squarely on the shoulders of JKC. He wanted the money for his charity; why would he want the family to sell just to have them buy it back? The man knew that it was leaving the family.
In my account above I did blame Jack Kent Cooke. He created a huge mess. However, it was John Kent Cooke's impression that his dad intended him to have the team. Apparently his father told him that much. Apparently the elder Cooke wanted to both raise money for charity and make sure that his son REALLY cared about the team. I've seen no evidence that the elder Cooke wanted or expected the team to leave the family. Just to play what-if, what if your father wanted to leave you the family house, but he wanted you to put the financing together to buy it, so that he could be assured from beyond the grave that you really cared and that you had some financial savvy? And what if, while you were still getting the financing together, I leapt into the breach and bought your family house from under you, even though I knew you were trying to get the financing together? Would you not consider me to be a snake? |
I don't remember Snyder starting any lawsuits to push the issue early, I could be mistaken though. And he was just a minority partner to Milstein. Plus, the bidding had already opened before Snyder became involved. Why should he have waited? Joe Gibbs was involved with another ownership group. Should we look down on him as well?
Joe Gibbs was trying to launch a bid. So was Peter Angelos of the Orioles. But neither of these groups got close. Perhaps they were intentionally moving slowly out of respect for the Cooke family legacy as I described. Whatever happened, they never showed the disrespect that I feel Snyder did. So, no, I do not feel the same way about them. |

It's not necessarily like John was guaranteed the team, it was a competition. John had been VP for what, almost 20 years? I'm sure he was decently trusted by then. But all of that is speculation. |

Angelos, that makes me shudder |
Top 5 Best Moves of the Snyder Era.
I have heard so much bad press about the Redskins lately that it is starting to piss me off. The Redskins have made the playoffs two of the past four years. Yes, they have not been the Steelers or the Patriots, but they seem to be on the right track. I believe that it will come together this year. I think they stole Jeremy Bridges and I am becoming a believer in Mike Williams and Chad Rhinehart. We made it to the playoffs, with Heyer at right tackle as a rookie. He will be much better this year than he was then. Our Oline will be the best that we have had since 1992, this year. Anyway, I would like to point out my top five favorite moves and hopefully, some of you will share yours.
1. Hiring Joe Gibbs. What an incredible feat that was. Whether he lost or won just to see him on the sidelines was awsome. I also believe his time here was very successful. 2. Getting Clinton Portis. He brought in a guy that is on his way to being a hall of famer. Should break 10000 yards this year and if I am right that our Oline will be awsome this year, he will have another 1400 plus yard season. 3. Sticking with Vinny Cerrato. Vinny Cerrato has done a far better job of utilizing the draft choices that he has been given than he gets credit for. Last year we drafted 10 players, mostly in late rounds and nine made it. The one that did not was Danny Smith's pick for a punter. He has not had an early round bust in since 2002, in Patrick Ramsey and many teams have had bad picks at QB His best days are yet to come and the fruits of last years draft will be born out this year. 4. Getting Albert Haynesworth. I think that the front office has learned from past mistakes, especially from the free agent class of 2006. Don't over pay guy that you believe is on the brink of greatness. Such as Lloyd, Carter and Randel El. Just get the best proven player in football and you cant go wrong. 5. Resigning Dockery and DeAngelo Hall. Both of these guy are going to have great seasons this year, assuming they stay healthy. The Redskins have received allot of heat for giving Hall such a large contract, but if he can play at the all level he is capable of, he will be a bargain at 8 mil a year. |

You can't leave out drafting Sean Taylor.

Cant believe I did. Imagine how good our defense would be with him in the mix. And what about firing the losingest coach ever, Norve Turner. |
Re: Top 5 Best Moves of the Snyder Era.
Colt Brennan. No question. :)
Seriously though, I really like a lot of the draft picks we landed while Gibbs was here- Jason Campbell, Carlos Rogers, Chris Cooley, Laron Landry, and Sean Taylor particularly. I won't give Snyder credit for those individual picks per se, but hiring Gibbs and then having the humility to step back and let a football guy do football things is what currently has us on a solid track. |

Huh? I was directing people to an already existing thread about the same topic. Not sure what you were replying to. |

Well I used the search function and came up with nothing. I miss took your signature as your comment. Seems like a derogatory comment against a Redskin player that is well loved by the fans. Not sure why it would be your signature, did the guy insult you in some way. Whats up with that Paintrain. |

Good natured barb at the Cultists. I've got nothing against the guy personally. I do think his legend far outweighs anything he'll ever do at this level in the regular season but pre-draft (which is about how long I've had that sig) there was some thread about how Campbell should be benched for Brennan so I quoted a Clayton mailbag and thought it was an interesting comment, based on reality of how he's perceived inside Redskins Park, that some fans needed a reminder of. If he gets in, I hope he tears it up. However, I think it's more likely that he doesn't see more than 30 career regular season snaps. |
