Re: The Case For...
I'm going out on my on here but I would have to say Matt Hassleback. Even though I like Campbell and I think he can develop. But, the true problem on our offense down the stretch was the quaterback play. The def. finished ranked number 4, so I will leave them alone. Portis ran for over 1200 yards, so the off. line must have been doing something right. However we didn't have one receiver over 1000 yards and Chris Cooley only had 1 touchdown catch. I would trade Jason Campbell and this years first round pick. And if I couldn't get Matt I would go after Donovan. Up grade the QB position and hopefully one of our Rookie wide receivers steps up to fill the number 2 spot and move Randel to the slot. Worry about up grading the line next year.
What do you think?
I think that's a bad idea. Hassleback is good and I'm sure Z would love to have him, but no. Your assesment of what went wrong with the offense is flawed. Insert any quarterback behind a solid line and they'll do good if they're even half way decent. Take a look at what Arizona did with Warner. The difference was an offensive line that Grim developed. Look at the Titans. Ask yourself, is Collins that good? Your line of thinking is geared toward the flash players. You cannot ignore the trenches and have a good team, period. We've been doing exactly that for a long time. There is no excuse for not drafting or picking up a quality C, OT, OG, DB, DE or at the very least an OLB this year. While I'm on the Lechler bandwagon, the lines are the most glaring need for this team, especially RT. |

Which part do you find the funniest?
Trading JC AND a first round pick. Waiting till next year to upgrade the line. Even if we had Hassleback, he'd probably be running for his life if we don't do something about our o-line. No offense intended. |

However, I do think that for the most part Jason did have adequate time to get some passes off that were not on target. Jason's decision making was a little slow so he held the ball longer than he should have which in turn got him sacked and made the line look bad. I'm not saying that the off. line bears no blame. There were a few times that Jason could not even get back in his stance before a defender was on him. I don't see us going after Matt or Donovan, I agree there are many other positions that need help other than the QB. However this thread said to pick ONE player and make a case for that player. Thats why I picked the QB position. It's the most influential position on the field.... |
Re: The Case For...
Dirtbag, you said:
One things for sure we have to add a Tackle, preferably a right tackle that can later become a left tackle. Unfortunately My question for you and many is why do we have to aquire a RT who will eventually be moved to LT? Why can't we draft or get a RT and keep him there and draft or get a LT next yr in the draft or FA? I keep hearing pick Goss up and move him later? Why? If he's good enough for RT keep him there or go get an actual RT. Samuals will be there for I'm guessing a few yrs. 2-3 so we have time to get another LT later. |
Re: The Case For...
Ok, so the point of this thread is for you to pick one player, and ONLY one player and state your case for why the Redskins should add this player to the roster for 2009.
Remember only one player. It can be a free agent, a draft pick, or someone likely to be on the trading block, such as Anquan Boldin. Remember, if you pick someone like Boldin you need to make your case for why he's worth giving up multiple picks when we have a limited amount as is. I don't know who I'd pick, so I'll state my case later.
Man Smoot you left the door open for the QB Monster to re-emerge:) |
Re: The Case For...
This team does not draft well. We've tried to "develop" guys like Golston and Montgomery and where has that gotten us?
Also, this team is not young and DOES NOT have time to develop a bunch of mid to later round picks. We need to win now or let the rebuilding begin in 2010. Theres not another single player that could improve a team like Haynesworth could. Judging by the reaction from others on this site it's unequivocally clear that posters here watch far more college than they do the pros. I guess watching boys in school play sloppy football is more entertaining. I can also guarantee that Haynesworth is not Bruce Smith, Deon Sanders or Adam Archuletta. I can understand why fans are apprehensive when it comes to free agent acquisitions, but it doesn't mean you just shy away from FA's all together. Drafting well is important, but so is spending top dollar to add elite players that could augment your entire team.
We draft so-so I woud say: Laron Landry, Chris Horton, Carlos Rogers, Chris Cooley, Ladell Betts, Rock Cartwright, John Jansen, Jason Campbell, not to mention undrafted guys like Mike Sellers. It isn't we don't draft well. We don't draft enough. |

Hey I'm not QB bashing, I actually like JC and I think he will be fine in time. I was just responding to this thread. This is just a wish list, don't get so wraped up in the QB thing. |

I don't think you understand the QB situation on this Blog. Stick around, you'll see. Don't mention McNab again, for your own sake. |
