I am not ready to give up on this team, not by a long shot. There are many reasons to be optimistic, or at least to not be downright depressed. However, it's tough to stomach last night's performance - especially since it was the first game we've seen in 8 months, we had such high expectations, and we love the team so much. It's a long season and things could very easily turn around; I'm just anxious to see things turned around sooner rather than later.

Understood, keep in mind though that the team we saw yesterday is not entirely the team they (the Redskins) have spent the last 8 months putting together. The front office and coaches were not preparing to win the opening game. They were, and still are, preparing to win long term. That's why they brought in Zorn to develop Campbell; Brennan to challenge and learn from Campbell; Kelly, Davis, and Thomas to grow with Campbell; Geisinger and Rinehart to protect Campbell; not to mention the continued development of Heyer and the veteran experience of Moss, Portis, ARE, and Cooley.

And that's just the offense.

So yeah we're all frustrated with a game one loss, but let's remember the big picture.

Re: It's one game, relax...

I want to be an optimist when it comes to my Redskins. But the truth is we have regressed. We were a playoff team last year, with a decent defense and an upcoming team. We have taken several steps backwards this year. Anyone that does not see that is not looking at the performance of the team on the field. Our defense is not nearly as good and disciplined in its play as it was last years.
The reality is DC Gregg Williams should have been named our head coach and Zorn our OC. But Snyder choose Cerratto over Williams, because Williams wanted Ceratto out as part of his deal of taking over for Gibbs. Plain and simple. So Snyder choose Cerrato over Williams.
IMO we lost in that exchange.
I still do not get the love Snyder has for Cerrato? What is it based on?
We give up on a coach (Williams) that year after year proven his worth on the field as a Redskins coach, for a guy (Ceratto) that has not PROVEN HIS WORTH as a Redskins talent evaluator.
Just my overall opinion of the state of the Redskins.
I hope I am wrong.
Besides, as I said before if I were a Giants fan I'd be happy for the win but concerned for the inability to put the game away. So overall it wasn't a pretty game on both sides. The Redskins do not have a potent offense, had they had one they could have easily come back in that game. And for all those yards they racked up, in the end all they had to show for was a TD (ran by the QB) and three field goals. Which by the way, if a banged up defense can hold the Giants to a TD and 3 FGs, then I have hope that a healthy defense can do great things.
I agree, we should have been smoked, but our D hung in there and their O sputtered in all their drives even if they started them off rolling. Gmen won't be winning the East this season.

We need the younger taller draft pick WRs in the mix badly, plus quit this underneath stuff that is well short of the first down. Aren't there any longer pass plays within the WC system? Santana will only thrive(be athreat) if he is allowed to go deep.

I disagree. The way I see it is they were ahead enough with enough of a cushion that we did not pose a threat. So they backed off the pedal. I do not see that our Defense played well. They moved the ball on us on the first 3 to 4 drives at will. Our defense did not look great or even good. Their offense backed off. They showed mercy. This was not the Patriots game of last year. The score of the game could have been alot worse if they kept on trying to score TD's.
The Giants ran the ball for over 150 yards and averaged 5.16 yards a carry. Our defense did not play well.

The D pitched a shutout the last half. Yes, the stats show a huge rushing avg against... but they didn't allow a point after the first half, regardless of yardage.

Teams in the NFL don't show mercy... especially when you're only up by two possessions.

It's one game but I could have honestly done a better job. Portis, Cooley, Portis, Cooley, Portis, Portis, Portis, Moss! TD!

Key point, we have 3 extra days to prep for the next game.

Of the two drives that ended in short FG's, one has to be put in the endzone. That, and I thought Eli was very rusty. Had the interception which was a stupid ball to throw, a few others that easily could have been picked and a few bad passes into the ground. Burress had some sick catches to help Eli's stats.

I can't believe I have to be a voice of reason, but you are 100% correct. Remember, the Giants D surrendered 80 points in the first two games last season and things worked out fairly well for them. Obviously something like that doesn't happen to often, but despite what some may say, the dice and roullette wheels do not have memories.

You make some great points . As far as preparing for the long term , they better stop the trend of throwing away draft picks . We will need to replace Samuals, Kendall, Thomas , Jansen , Sellers , and maybe Portis in the next 2 or three years . Portis will still be a good back , but he will not be as fast in three years . We will also have to replace Griffin , Taylor , Washington , Fletcher , Springs and possibly Smoot in the same time frame . I just hope Zorn can win enough games and stay here for 5 years , so JC and Colt can stay in the same Offense year in / out . I cannot see us being able to win in the playoffs until we build better lines on both sides of the ball . As far as Cooley , he needs to stop blogging and doing radio , he sucks at blocking ,, he looked like a ten year old last night !!

Why back off the pedal with only a 9 point lead?
