Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I was actually listening to an old episode of Loveline from a week or two before they were to release American Wedding (Eddie Kaye Thomas as the guest) and they were going on and on about how this completed the trilogy and how they were sure this (American Wedding) was the last one. Funny how that turned out with this latest flick.
Either way I didn't see the last one and the only reason me and all my friends saw the first one came about because "OMG SHANNON ELIZABETHS B00Bz OMGWTFBBQ!" Second one came out when I was still in high school as well so naturally I saw it but by the time AW came around I just wasn't really interested in the series anymore. Personally, aside from being a potential cash cow, I just think they wanted a send off which included Chris Klein and Tara Reid, as the two were absent from the previous film. Thats assuming of course that they don't make American Divorce.
I was actually in American Wedding...no, actually I wasn't but during American Pie 2 while I was in a previous career I booked Jason Biggs and Thomas Ian Nicholas to come on our news show and promote their movie. Later that night, a few of us went out for drinks at Bethesda Crab House (if my memory serves me right) and we had a a bunch of girls-who, of course, were fawning over those two, that I had just been cast as the new kid for the next American Pie movie |
Why is it such a big fuss that Rue is Black in the movie?
Because sadly people are idiots as both her and Thresh were both described to me by my friends who've read the books that the specific description of Rue is "a twelve-year-old girl from District 11. She has dark brown skin and eyes." And some of the comments made by some of the posters make me sick to my stomach that some people still think this way. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
hunger games is very meh for me. production is great, acting is eh (not bad, not amazing). not digging the story at all though. seems silly.

I've never read the books, so I guess I'll leave the answer to sft&t. But considering how this world's districts are structured, this casting seems perfectly fine. |

Thank you! I agree it is like folks are desperate for the next big thing so they made this it. I read the books there was nothing ground breaking about the story telling. At times it was even boring. I think if you are 15 and you read it you are kind of blown away because to be honest most 15 don't have enough knowledge of better stories to compare it too. |

SPARTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA |
I saw your mom in Backdoor Sluts 9, the most hardcore porno ever made.
Ooooh yeah! Serious note, watched The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo tonight. That was one hell of an intense flick. I think I heard its going to be a trilogy? If that's the case imma have to check out the next two. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
yeah, its based off the books.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
If anyone has a chance to see The Raid: Redemption, run to your theater as soon as possible. Greatest action flick ever... and that's not hyperbole.
I'd suggest staying away from the trailer- walk in cold and expect to be blown away. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I drove by the theater today and saw the list of movies that were playing. It's no wonder Hollywood is "loosing money." Virtually 0 original ideas, just sequels and remakes for the most part.

I've got a coworker who's into a lot of 50's/60's era movies and shows and stuff like that, and I've watched some clips on Youtube of the 3 Stooges, and they were way better than what I've seen of this remake so far. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
not that you didn't already know this, but wrath of the titans is awful. really really bad.

Worse than Hunger Games? |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Worse than Hunger Games?
In terms of film-making, there's a bunch of movies a whole lot worse than Hunger Games. I think its YA attachment/hype is skewing the perception of how technically sound the film is- direction, screenplay, acting, score, wardrobe, production design. Even my animator buddy was impressed with the CG. There's not a whole lot wrong with THG, imo. Some people are turned off by the quick cuts and shaky camera, but that's personal preference. |

Story, acting, plot development...... The actual execution of the film is reasonable, but it wasn't enjoyable. Not as nauseating as Avatar though. |

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
technically THG is done very very well (like i said in my first post on it), but the story is stupid/pointless and the acting is very average. It's something I'll never watch again.

Watched The Cove today, great documentary

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
The Raid was fn awesome. Definitely worth the wait on it's domestic release and a must own on blu ray for me. Felt like I was watching The Protector mixed with Heat and SWAT. Didn't really have that intricate of a story but actually not that bad.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Going to see Titanic in 3D on Friday night. 420 and 3D... Ohhh boy.

This. And the story never gets cheesy, unlike so many action flicks. |

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I watched Safe House with Denzel a few weeks ago.
I was forced to go and wasnt expecting anything but it was really good, definitely one of the best movies ive seen in a real long time. Kind of like the Jason Bourne movies. |

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I saw The Avengers and The Dictator in theaters yesterday. The Avengers was great, really well done (I felt like The Hulk was the star of the show), everything tied in fine with all the other previous Marvel movies that set it up, the action was fine, and they had some very nicely timed one-liners in there too.
The Dictator was decent but nothing special, and the timing of it was way off (Spoiler alert, highlight to read) because of Bin Laden's death, with him appearing in a scene at the end of the film, and he's also the main butt of a joke earlier about him staying in Cohen's guesthouse and how he stinks up the bathroom. I think the movie was made before his death and I guess they tried to make it work, but it really doesn't. Other than that it's pretty funny. |
