I think that the NT is the most important position in a 3-4. What this means is that you want more than a "serviceable" NT IMHO. To have a dominant 3-4 means having a dominant NT, not a "serviceable" NT. Sure, you can have a vanilla joe for rotational depth, but your #1 guy should be a monster.
NT followed by RDE as a very close second.
You gotta have at least 1 guy up front that can consistently beat 1-v-1 blocking to the point where they can command a double team.

I totally agree with you. I guess I did not specify enough. I think that we should get a serviceable NT for this year. You can't fix every position in one year. It is going to take time. Unless a miracle happens we aren't going deep in the playoffs next year anyway.

Don't waste a draft pick on an important position, especially a pick that reaches, when we have tons of other needs at other positions and could probably get the BPA at another position instead of a NT.

That way, we can improve the other positions with a more long term high quality pick and fill the NT position next year in the offseason or in the draft when there is hopefully a more highly touted prospect available and we have less pieces of the puzzle to figure out.

If I understand you right I think I agree.

My view is that our defense was sos bad last year at 2 key positions along the DL: RDE and NT that simply having serviceable play will be an improvement.

BTW-I think that Anthony Bryant can be part of the improvement at NT

Anyone know who Kiper has us drafting in his new mock 3.0 released today?

I just know the top four picks so far as Newton jumps to #4 and the Bengals. Anyone know the top ten?

Much appreciated.

Recap of Mel Kiper's phone conference in regards to the Redskins and the draft.

If none of the top two QBs are at #10, it seems that the Redskins will need to decide on either a NT or a QB in the 2nd round.

Since the draft is deep in d-lineman, I'd trade down, pick up the best NT in the bottom of the first round, and hopefully have either have an additional 2nd rounder or a 3rd rounder from the trade down to pick up a QB/RB/or interior lineman.

I think Mike Shanahan will finished what he started last draft and tidy up the OL-RT. They could even drop down in the draft, picking up a pick or two, and still get a very good rookie RT.

Thanks much!

I'm not sure if I would be upset with a beast WR.

But with our track record of drafting receivers in the first two rounds I know I would be nervous.

Wait..........is that what you're currently hearing ??.............I'm kinda hoping for that. Alot of people on here are ruined by the DT and MK draft picks that they want nothing to do with a WR with our first pick. I say do it . JJ will be a beast

Re: 2011 NFL Draft

I would NEVER spend the 10th pick on a WR. If Jones is the best player available at 10 then they need to get out of that pick. Personally I would be doing whatever is necessary to get in position to get the #1 QB on the skins draft board...like they should have done last year. If it's Locker then pick him at 10...if it's Gabbert then trade up. They have to get their guy and they can't wait and hope it falls to them...because with the redskins that never seems to happen.

Re: 2011 NFL Draft

I wouldn't trade up for any of these QBs. And if one of the top WRs is there at #10 and is our top rated player, so be it. It's not like WR isn't a need.

Re: 2011 NFL Draft

They don't sound worth it to me either but if Shanny loved one of them I would do it. They can't wait around. If theres a guy in there they think is the franchise then they need to make it happen. Coming out of this draft with a potential franchise QB is the #1 priority.

Re: 2011 NFL Draft

I guess you're in favor of reaching for one, with this relatively weak QB class I think that would be a big mistake.
