Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
I do not think it takes an armchair MD to come to the conclusion that his return is uncertain, or even leaning towards no. Old, wasn’t playing that great, major injury. Again, even if he heals up incredibly fast and easy do you feel good about him as our starter? If he was playing scared before the injury he is going to be a shell of a shell of a shell upon a possible return.
It will be on the back of his mind for sure. The question is if he comes back, will he scramble or just go down? |

Didn’t seem like he was scrambling this year? He just got rid of the ball right away. When we made that trade i thought he would make up for his lack of arm strength with his mobility. Keep plays alive with his legs. Not sure if he was to blame or Gruden for not putting him in a situation to do that. Probably a little bit of both. |
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
My question to the clowns in the front office is if Smith was already under contract when they made the stupid ass trade, why did they extend him for 3 more years? Couldn't they have just waited a year to see how things went?

He would have become a free agent after this season, Skins probably weren’t interested in more QB contract drama |
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
I think anybody, weekend MD's or not, who are guessing that it's a "sure thing" that Alex Smith comes back, are being completely foolish. I would say he has a greater chance of not coming back, due to everything that we have heard, and perhaps the actual doctors feel the same now that they are taking the wait and see approach, instead of saying "oh yeah, he's coming back and will be totally fine, no doubt about it".
We already look pretty stupid IMO the day Jay gave his presser and told everybody that Alex would be back in six months. Almost every day since then, we have gotten worse news about Alex. The first news break was that the break/injury was worse than we initially believed several hours after the game. Then last week it was that Alex faced a 8-10 month rehab time barring any setbacks. Now this week it is that the doctors seem to be acknowledging that this is potentially a career ending injury. I do agree with Matty we should know by the spring i would think, if Alex actually can come back. |
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
I don’t think anyone including myself has said it’s a sure thing he’s coming back. Just like that would be dumb to say it’s also dumb to speculate that his career is over.
I posted this before, worth sharing again https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sports/profootballdoc/sd-sp-pfd-alex-smith-leg-fracture-rehab-redskins-1120-story.html |
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
I am Celtics fan, I will tell you right now Gordon Hayward is shell of his former self. He is 28 and had nearly entire calendar year to heal and rehab.

Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
Whether AS comes back or not, his cap hit is very heavy and it means that the team won't be able to hire anything but a cheap veteran replacement.
I also wonder if big ticket players like Norman might be let go due to the ripple effect of this cap tsunami. I think this forces the Redskins to at least consider drafting a QB in the first round, in the bid to get a franchise QB |
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
I just read tonight that Alex Smith is still in the hospital from his leg surgery. I guess he has a pretty serious infection.
Alex won't be a guy that WOW's us and he probably won't have any 400 yard pass games but he will WIN games for us. That is all I care about.
So far so good.
EDIT: Then he will break his leg and end his career possibly... SIGH |

I read that as well. I was wondering if anyone was going to mention it. Word is this will delay his recovery. |
