Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
Cofield would be a much better player as a DE (especially if Carriker is gone) and Soliai would be a much better fit as a NT. The only reason we are probably not get him is because of money (and for some reason JH/MS refuse to get a true 3-4 NT).
Can you imagine a DL rotation of Soliai NT, Cofield, Bowen, Jarvis Jenkins, Nield?
That would push our front 3 and front 7 into the upper echelon of 3-4 defenses. |
Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
Also this. The only thing I don't like is Colston's age. I hope I'm wrong on this but I believe he's 28 or 29, and his injury history doesn't bode well for his future. When healthy he's a very solid wideout.
Good points. Colston could also be more of a product of his specific system than VJax or Bowe as well. Those guys possess superior athleticism to Colston IMO. ...really tough call though. I don't envy our front office when it comes to legitimizing our WR corp. QB is easy though I could pick winners at that all day long ;) |
Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
He'll be 29 when the season starts. I like him, but I also wonder how much of his success is a function of Drew Brees and that offense. I'll put it this way, I don't think his best years are ahead of him.
Damn it I didn't see this when I posted the same thing...you're super smart though scud keep up the good work! |
Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
That's a very important question too. I would hope if we signed Manning he'd be able to duplicate his production. But the question of how successful he'll be without Brees won't be able to be answered before he signs with another team. Quite honestly I'm not a big fan of this FA WR class. There are playmakers in it, but I don't see any of them having a long term future of the team that signs them. And all have significant question marks. That's why if we do upgrade wide receiver, I hope we go the draft route.
But if we did sign Manning, I wouldn't be opposed to Colston too much simply because Colston should be able to be productive while Manning plays, which I'd be comfortable with. I don't think Colston is one of those guys who can play into his late 30's though.
What about, assuming we sign PM, drafting our #1 WR at 6? Seems like every season a rookie WR busts the conventional wisdom it takes years to adjust to the pros. Is Julio Jones worth a 6th overall pick? Indeed. |
Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
Since we are talking about these three guys (although I know there's another thread). I thought I would post the scouting report on these guys...
VJax, 6'5" 230 lbs: Jackson has developed into one of the league's most dangerous all-purpose receivers. He has excellent size and above-average-to-good downfield speed. He does not look like he is running all that fast but with his long stride he manages to eat up a lot of ground. He has excellent body control and hand-eye coordination and knows how to use his size in a crowd. He should command a lot of attention in this year's free agent market. Bowe 6'2" 221 lbs: Bowe has shown flashes of brilliance but has also struggled to maintain consistency. He is a very talented receiver with excellent size and above-average straight-line speed and receiving skills. He is explosive off the line and can eat up the cushion on defenders. He has the ability to drop his hips to get in and out of his breaks with a good burst to separate from defenders. He shows strength both when catching the ball in traffic and when running after the catch. Colston 6'4" 225 lbs: Colston is a good-sized receiver with adequate downfield speed that can make plays at virtually every level of the field. He is a long strider that eats up ground as he closes the cushion on defenders and is an excellent route runner that knows how to set defenders up and has the ability to sink his hips to get in and out of his breaks with a good burst. He knows how to use his size and strength to catch the ball in traffic, and will extend and get good elevation to high point the ball. He has natural hands that allow him to catch the ball outside of his frame and he consistently puts the ball away quickly when turning after the catch. |

Depends on the cost, not a terrible idea. Sent from my Samsung Epic 4G. |
Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
I've never been a big Schaub fan. Don't feel he comes through when needed more often than not.

I like that idea, although I would not give up day one pick (1st or 2nd) for him. How awesome would it be if we trade our 3rd round pick for Schuab, then trade down with our 1st pick to garner more picks and draft a QB and safety in 2nd round.. |

Nay. Injury history and I feel if you took Andre Johnson away from him he wouldn't be that great. Combine that with the fact that we don't currently have Andre Johnson on our roster and that's a bad sign. |

We could get VJax, Bowe, or Colston to be Schaub's A. Johnson...well close to A. Johnson, that dude a is a beast. |

I still don't think any of the aforementioned are long term solutions though, which are my first choice. The only short term solution I'm comfortable with is Manning. |

It was nice while it lasted.
Not sure I get this part.
Before that would happen, Manning would have to be willing to put his Indianapolis legacy at risk, given that he’d be playing the Colts twice in 2012.
Manning isn't asked to be released, the Colts would be the reason he'd be playing them twice a year if he went to the Texans. I hope he would just so he could stomp them twice a year. Would be hilarious and vindication for Peyton. |
