I'm honestly ready to trade him. Then use one of the draft picks to draft his replacement.

I think if you could get a 2nd for him that there are some good interior guys available then, fresh blood, rookie contract save $10m, maybe fantasy thinking though

Speaking of his replacement what's happened with Mathis? Dude was a ghost this year.

I may be in the minority but I think there's a lot to like about Fields. Would I trade for him though? Probably not, unless we're talking about a 3rd rounder maybe. I'm definitely not giving up a 1st or even a 2nd.

I think Dotson is here till the end of his rookie contract at least. The idea that you can just trade an under performing receiver isn't going to happen, what team would do that? Releasing him on a rookie deal is silly.

Looks like another Rivera/Washington 2nd round bust.

I like Fields as a QB. But he's going into his 4th year. So it would likely cost a high pick, then pick up the 5th year option (23.3 million give or take), then have to pay him a shit-ton of money in 2 years.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/38983435/bears-face-justin-fields-decision-land-no-1-draft-pick

I'd rather go QB in round 1 of the draft and have him on a rookie contract for at least 4 years.

Could be, but it's tough to get playing time behind J Allen & D Payne. Mathis didn't even play the first half of the season (was he hurt?), and only played sparingly the rest of the season.

I would take Fields for a third no question.

Anyone who trades a second for Dotson should be fired and never allowed near an nfl front office again.

But wasn't this the knock on him coming out of college? A lot of those sacks are on Sam. This is something that he is going to really have to work on if he wants to stay in the NFL.

I feel this way about anyone who makes a trade to move up in the draft to take a long snapper. 🤡

Mathis is ass. Everytime I watch a snap of his it's because he's getting dominated.

What a waste of a draft pick. We should've known what we were getting when he said he was surprised at going in the 2nd round.

His value is very low anyways. He hasn't flashed at all this year. He still has time to improve but he's only going to get one more chance with a new staff. If he still hasn't shown anything after 2024 it's time to move on.

It was just such an unnecessary pick anyway. Second round pick and we take a DT with Allen and Payne when we had so many holes? One more loss Ron. One more loss.

Not at all. I 100 percent am ready to take a qb at 2 or 3 but Im certainly not going to act like it was all on Sam. EB, Ron, and our oline were absolutely complicit in his failure. It simply isn’t a black and white issue.

Sams career started with him beating down the Cowboys in the last game of three year, and will end with him getting beat down by the Cowboys in the last game of the year. That is an absolute failure on Ron to build around or get the most out of what seemed like a promising young quarterback.

Really Sam was EB's project and to be fair the majority of the NFL didn't see much in him (5th round pic)

the world needs NFL QB2 and QB3; Sam will fill those roles, i think he is a amazing stand in i wouldn't at this point call him a QB1

RR really isn't to blame here, shoot he is the one that actually gave him a shot (draft)

Sam is trash.
GMs will have 18 games on tape. Dude won’t make an active squad next year.
You heard it here first, Sam will be a practice squad player week 1 next year.

Re: The Sam Howell Thread

Sam will be on a roster next year ... Jamf you give way to much credit to Ron and EB for acting like they had nothing to do with Sams failure... they had every thing to do with it .. Not even CJ stroud would have overcome this Oline, play calling etc .... Oh I forgot the D was historical bad .. yea this team sounded like a great place for a rookie QB to succeed..

Chief X_Phackter 01-06-2024 03:24 PM

Re: The Sam Howell Thread

Sam will be on this roster next year.

There's really no reason to move on from him and his rookie contract. Even if the new regime drafts a QB at #2, you don't really know what you are getting until you see that QB in the new offense, going against NFL talent.

Sam has more than held his own over 18 games. He will, at the very least, be an extremely capable backup in the NFL. He may as well be that here - for now.

jamf 01-06-2024 03:32 PM

Re: The Sam Howell Thread

We disagree.
I think Sam was the worst QB in the league that started the full season and the line isn’t as bad as he makes them look.

I guess we will have to wait till week 1.
I predict he will be on someone practice squad. His first and last NFL starts will be against the cowboys.
