Except I thought it was understood that WFT was an interim name while they explored the rebrand (so I guess the league already made that exception). I don't think it's a myth -- I believe the rule is real enough, even if the enforcement isn't.

I was listening to Sheehan's podcast and he said the fanbase probably need some kind of therapy. We have been through so much w/ this team, it's almost like being in a abusive relationship and we've finally gotten out. We don't know what to do or how to handle ourselves. It just feels weird.

1. Understand what they are inheriting, and

2. Have a plan and a vision for what they want this organization to look like - on and off the field.

While that is frustrating, i have zero issues with removing the stink of Snyder and the name Commanders is a huge stink, especially with the way they came up with the name. They had the list and fan voting and so on, then when they announce the name it wasn't even one on the list. So the name was a great big FUCK YOU to the fans from Snyder. That's why i want it gone!!

The issues is not that a majority dislike the name, but that a vast majority outright hate the name. You can't have a fanbase that hates the name. Eventually they will leave due to that hatred.

The name will ALWAYS be an issue with the majority of the fans. They would still be the REDSKINS if Snyder wasn't such a horrible owner that Fred Smith used it as a way to get back at him...and then have that on top of the horrible name Commanders that Snyder chose...it's just a constant reminder of how it was with him here. If the Chiefs were sold next year and the new owner changed the name to the KC Midwesterners...you think their fans wouldn't bitch because they were still winning all the time???

Hopefully this name thing dies down a bit now that we're in camp. It's exhausting. Yeah Commanders is a crappy name, but there is nothing that can be done about it right now- so not sure what the sense is beating it to death.

But I do believe that when the time is right, probably after the season, Commanders is gone. Doesn't matter if the team goes 17-0, barely anyone wants or likes it.

Of course if the team starts winning big people won't bail over the name not changing... But this name has obviously been picked by Snyder and Snyder only, nothing in the rebranding process led to this name being picked except Dan liked it cuz consciously or not it fed his ego.
So, while I'm aware rebranding a multi billions dollars franchise ain't an easy thing, it always made sense to me that changing the name would actually be one of the easiest things the new owner could do to be the cool guy in town.
I hear how it's exhausting for us to go through this again, but keep in mind 2 things:

-[I][U]for the new owning group, this is the first rebranding[/U][/I], they didn't go through the first one
-[I][U]a few decades down the road, nobody will care that we had to endure 2 rebrandings[/U][/I] in a span of a few years, everybody will be like "yeah the *whatever the new name will be*, that team used to be called the Redskins, then the on his way out owner was kinda forced to change the name, but it sucked and the new owner changed it again", and we will be among the very few old fans actullay remembering that there were a few months when this team was named "Washington Football Team" and "Washington Commanders".

I won't be as adamant and active in the process this time around, cuz I'm pretty positive I'll like the new name better than the actual one, but this actually is the smart thing to do IMO.
