I personally enjoy how his rank is Major a rank in the Army, Marine Corps, Air Force and Space Force but we are the Commanders a rank in the Navy and Coast Guard. Majors are O-4, Commanders are O-5. I know I am reading into it too much but it is subtly off.

I say Howell will go something like 15/27 for 150 yards, 1 TD, at least two INT, probably a fumble, and get sacked 4 or 5 times

If he plays with the B team no doubt. But we will still be able to see how he handles himself, arm strength, I just want to see promise.
If it looks like he is being held back because of an even worse o line and lack of weapons because they sit well I can live with that.

Lol. So Admiral Tuddy if someone in the building put more than 3 minutes into the shiny object to keep our attention off of the shitshow on the field? Interesting. Hopefully Bezos scraps Tuddy along with the rest of the trash.

Now that Snyder claims to live in England, why not imagine Tuddy in the Royal Navy and name him Vice Admiral Sir D.C. "Mascot" Tuddy-Hogg, POS, WTF.

While true, there are also "Commanders" in all services...Company Commander, Battalion Commander, Brigade Commander, Regimental Commander, Division, Corps, Wing, Group, Squadron, Flight, SOUTHCOM, USAREUR...etc... Not really a "rank", but a billet.

My guess is they weren't targeting a specific service for the name - just a tribute to all in general.

One thing I know, while beating the cowboys would be satisfying…let’s get that higher draft pick. If Howell could deliver 3-4 scorning drives, that would be yuge

Weaknesses

Not a Saffold. Not a people mover who will road grade. Does not generate movement on combo blocks. Not a drive blocker.

Average lateral range. Below average ability in confined spaces to turns his body and redirect. Average speed getting out on a screen pass. Average flexibility and overall agility. Not a great 2nd level blocker, but hard to tell because from the T spot he didn't do much of that.

Below average lateral recovery. If he gets in trouble, he typically is beaten, he's not going to save it. Won't have many clean sheet seasons, he'll likely give up some sacks in the NFL.

Repeatedly smoked by inside moves, both in pass protection and on run blocks. Once he sets his post foot, he struggles to move that foot laterally to react and recover against a quick inside move.

Relies on grabbing the jersey of defender to maintain control, which could become source of holding penalties if more skilled or athletic NFL defenders can pull away from him.

Can get knocked off balance by superior power.

Doesn't handle twists well, struggles to react and recover in time to pick up the 2nd defender. Made a mental mistake on a run play and allowed free penetration.

Can't handle edge speed and doesn't have enough lateral quickness to stay outside at OT in the NFL as a starter. Projects as a G who will only play OT in a backup role. Paul said he sees himself as a LG/RT and since he's been playing RT, if a team moved him back to LG, there would likely be a period of adjustment as he goes back to being on the left side of the line compared to the right and playing on the interior and not on the edge.

I have concerns about whether he's addicted to football. He loves music. In an interview, he said that he's motivated by "creativity". He has an artistic, intellectual and mild mannered personality that some coaches might consider to be "too soft" for an NFL lineman. Not a glass eater. Not one of those players who eats, drinks and sleeps football. Does he love the game or is it more of a hobby for him?

Not a prototypical zone blocking scheme OL, because he doesn't have great quickness and range, but despite his size he's not a power scheme guard either, because he lacks aggression and play strength.

... or the actual reason. Hes a 7th round rookie G and injuries didnt hit hard enough to Norwell/Turner/Schweitzer/Cosmi to require activating him.

Coaches like him but lets not let our Ron hatred color every opinion we have now.

Also, Ereck Flowers is still sitting at home as a free agent. So it is not like we let go someone who was scooped up right away.

I still think one of the reasons our o-line is terrible is because the two QBs we've started this year suck big time.

Yes, we still need to improve our o-line, but better QB play and more commitment to the running game will help a lot.

Morgan Moses has done pretty well for the Ravens, probably should have kept him. Its also our first year without Sherif, the line was due to drop in production.

The problem is not Chris Paul…it’s Ron’s failure to plug holes with ex Panthers who are terrible. Norwell and Turner have been bad. Our Tackle play has been good enough but the interior has been poor.

Same here. I'll say this though. If Howell is good enough for us to beat the Cowboys who will be playing for the div/1st seed, surrounded by 3rd stringer, then i really don't care about sliding down in the draft !

Just saw Keim's podcast and one interesting nugget I got from the podcast was that the players are excited to see Howell play, I think this is a great sign.

Chief X_Phackter 01-07-2023 11:24 AM

Re: Cowboys Pregame thread

I think it's great if the players are excited to see him play, but I'm not sure what else they are going to say at this point. Nobody's going to say they would rather not see him take the field.

With the limited personnel around him, some who haven't seen the field all year just like him, he's probably going to be a mixed bag - some good and some terrible, and likely on the losing end when it's all said and done.

Just give us hope for next year.

1. Show that you belong and that the game isn't too fast for you.
2. Don't get hurt.
3. Beat Dallas.

GridIron26 01-07-2023 12:35 PM

Re: Cowboys Pregame thread

Valid point.. I suppose it's just how Keim explained it, it seemed as if the players are genuinely excited about it, rather than being forced to say it.

My rose colored prediction- Eagles lose, Howell plays amazing, Commies win on last second miracle keeping Dallas out of 1st. Fans beat the shit out of Huddy after the game and we have a good laugh.

My realistic prediction- The team quits, Howell gets massacred, retirement of Sonny's #9 is complete embarrassment, Commies lose by 30+, Cowboys wipe their ass with Huddys face.

In either case Huddy will get punked tomorrow.

I don't really have any confidence in Scott being able to put together a gameplan where Howell can be successful.

Howell will be back in shotgun 90% of the plays and he is going to get sacked 6 plus times.

I want to watch just because of Howell, but maybe Ill just avoid the pain of this circus in general and wait for the sale, the burn down, and the rebuild. Eagles will probably lose, and Ill have to watch Zeke and Dak cock bang each other all over our field. Is watching Howell behind this oline with Scott fuckin Turner calling the plays while Ron sleeps standing up and awakes from time to time wondering where he is really worth that?

It isn’t irrational the guy just had three losing seasons, made hundreds of questionable decisions on and off the field with this team and throws players under the bus instead of taking the blame. Fuck him.

It is both. Quarterbacks are two of the worst in the league and the oline is one of the worst. Toss in an awful OC and you have the perfect recipe for a shit sandwich. There is not an easy or quick fix for what has become of this offense. We have good wr’s and backs. So there is that. But we need to pretty much rebuild the entire line, might have a quarterback in Howell, and most defensive need a new OC. Im not sure that can happen by next year, but Sam balling out would certainly expedite the fix.

Re: Cowboys Pregame thread

Kurt Warner on Sam Howell:

I’m intrigued by Sam Howell,” Warner said. “The number of games he’s played, the success that he’s had. The ball jumps off his hand; I think he may be the most naturally gifted thrower in this class. I am very intrigued by Sam and what he brings to the table because I’ve seen it for a number of years.”

When a successful NFL quarterback such as Warner speaks, it matters. The Commanders believe they have a steal in Howell, but time will tell.

That's what I'm presuming as well. A lot of our defensive starters aren't playing. We have a shit o-line and shitty OC with a rookie QB in his first start of his career versus a team fighting for a division title. Not exactly a fair shake for Howell.

I wouldn't even watch this game if Howell wasn't playing, and I doubt I watch the game in its entirety. Hopefully, Howell isn't shell shocked after he's swallowed up a handful of times.

Good luck to our young QB!
