Was kind of funny that even Davis seemed surprised by the throw. Literally hit him in the FACE fifty-five yards downfield. Bananas.

Just finished the replay. Thoughts:

1) Starting defense looked good. Allen/Payne will be tough in the middle. Payne is quick for a such a large man.
2) Thought both qbs looked pretty good. Keenum looks fine to me. Haskins looked better but still missed a few. Still prefer Keenum to start easily.
3) Penalties and special teams are horrible. The refs blew but still nearly out of control with the penalties. Special teams are some of the worst I've ever seen for a NFL team.
4) Peterson still has it. If Guice is healthy, and we get the left side of the line shored up we will have a potent rushing attack.
5) I think the 1st teams (offense and defense) have a chance to be very good. 2nd teams looked iffy.
6) Attendance was abysmal. Even for a preseason game. If 2019 is a rough year it could be a massive problem. Think it kind of already is.

HTTR!

Agree on these, Keenum will start and should, Haskins is going to be really good for a long time.

AD is the man, ageless wonder!

Attendance sucks because FEDEX is a dump, time to build a new stadium

I just came here to say I thought that offensive pass interference penalty in the second half was one of the worst I've ever seen in almost 2 decades of watching football. In what world does the wide receiver not have the right to make a play on the ball?

The rules mess in the NFL is ongoing and probably deserves its own thread. I truly don't even understand the motivation of the Rules Committee for some of the rule changes in recent years.

Instead of clarifying the rules, the committee has split hairs to the point of making it so that NOBODY knows anymore what is a catch or pass interference.

False starts are called in such a nit-picking way that a statue couldn't avoid a false start penalty in the NFL.

Practically every punt or kick return comes with a flag.

Tacklers can't hit above the waist for fear of a targeting penalty for the slightest brush of the opponents helmet and they can't hit below the waist for fear of a penalty for going at the opponent's knees. Where the hell can they hit an opponent?

These rules are for lawyers and not for players or fans.

Notes from last nights game

The Alabama boys in the middle of the Redskins’ defensive line had quite a night. Jonathan Allen and Daron Payne were disruptive in both rushing the passer and stifling the run game of the Bengals. Both showed that they are in regular-season form and ready to create havoc for NFC East offenses this season.

On a night to forget for the Redskins’ offense, Adrian Peterson stuck out most by taking Washington’s first play from scrimmage for a 26-yard gain and a first down, showing a bit of elusiveness and solid burst for a 34-year-old running back.

Geron Christian Jr., Washington’s 2018 third-round pick, turned in a dismal performance both as a run-blocker and in pass protection. He had no answers for the Bengals’ defensive front regardless of assignment.

No owner sues their own fans over tickets, underpays employees (not players), and markets anything that makes him money (regardless of the ethics) if he cares just about the team and his success.

Danny will be running out of answers if 2019 is a mess of a year and the fans don't come. That week 2 game hosting Dallas could be a huge tone setter for the season and attendance.

Payne, Allen and Ionnidis*, if healthy may prove to be the best 3-4 dline in the league this year. Usually 3-4 dline man aren’t expected to get as much pressure as they do. And they stuff the run. Daron Payne looks ready to have a coming out party and recognized as the best nose tackle in the nfl. No other nose tackle can play the run or pass like he can.
Agreed
I wouldn't get too caught up in the play calling. How coaches call plays and why they call certain plays in the preseason, versus how and why coaches call plays in the regular season, is really not going to be the same. They are calling plays that will help them best evaluate certain players/units, more than they are calling plays as part of a game plan.

Chief X_Phackter 08-16-2019 02:49 PM

Re: Cincy @ Skins PS WK2

As many have said already stated, the officiating was probably the worst I have ever seen. That crew has no business officiating in the NFL.

Re: Cincy @ Skins PS WK2

Tress Way's punting and Sean Wilson's punt returning were the only bright spots on special teams. The rest was garbage.

The starting defense looks like it could be dominant, if they can figure out the middle linebacker situation.

O line looked better, even Flowers at guard. I kinda hate to say it, but I think Geron is the starting LT. Penn looks too slow.

Time to call it a day with Perine and Doctson, and whoever's still says we don't have receivers is out of their mind...and our two best haven't even played yet.

I have to agree with you, but it's just a bad flashback and reminds me too much of Jay in the regular season that I can't even remind myself it's the preseason. Seriously, lol.

So the NFL's official statement on the Kelvin Harmon PI call is that he pushed off around the 50, which conveniently isn't available to see on the regular tv footage but if you're willing to pay for the All-22 you can probably find it on there. I'd have to see it to exonerate them on that call because I thought it was about Harmon trying to make a play on the ball.

-Haskins !!! (Even if I feel like he tends to drop too deep, doesn't he ? On the strip sack in the 3rd QTR he was 10 yards from the LoS... isn't at too much ?)
-AP
-VD
-1st team D
-Bama Boys
-Energy level on the D, good collective pursuit, it's preseason and it feels like I've never seen them that pumped, love it!
-Nicholson's pick 6, not for the play itself, but for the confidence builder it can be, because I think it's what he needs to get back to being his old and promising self !
-Ryan Anderson
-Settle
-Moreland
-Collins

-

-Why did have to endure a full half of Flowers and Christian on the left side of our line?! They're atrocious !
-The f with that background high pinched noise during the whole effin game ? Do we have freakin' vuvuzelas in the NFL too now ?
-The Refs...
-Why is Tony Bergstrom still on this roster ?!
-One thing that worries me a bit is Wes Martin not looking impressive against 3rd stringer in the 2nd half... I have high hopes for him...

I thought he was actually. I am pretty sure on AP's first run Flowers pushed his guy straight back to open the lane. I would like to see Penn and Flowers and Penn and Martin against firsts. It's clear the 2nd year tackle is out of his league.

Don't know if the link will work but if you watch Flowers on this run you see him control his guy throughout

Watched back the offensive snaps of the 1st half... I honestly don't know what I saw the first time (watched around 1am, not a great idea). Flowers played well.
The thing is I'm more excited by Wes Martin's talent and I want to see him win this job so I just remembered the one bad play Flowers had, to comfort me in what I already thought.

It’s encouraging news flowers is improving and left guard is becoming a battle. Nothing but a positive.

Looks like geron Christian has not turned a corner yet as an NFL player and every report I’ve ever heard is he’s garbage. Not giving up but he should be showing some potential in year 2 as a 3rd round pick
