"I want you to use my words against me. If there's a Republican president in 2016 and a vacancy occurs in the last year of the first term, you can say Lindsey Graham said, 'Let's let the next president, whoever it might be, make that nomination,' " he said in 2016 shortly after the death of Justice Antonin Scalia. "And you could use my words against me and you'd be absolutely right."
Graham repeated the sentiment in October 2018 in an interview with The Atlantic's editor-in-chief, Jeffrey Goldberg. "If an opening comes in the last year of President Trump's term, and the primary process has started, we'll wait till the next election." As we know the rules changed in 2016, so are you ok with the goalposts getting moved yet again? |

Chicos quote and your quote just prove the point that goalposts in politcal dialogue are just illusions. Each party is going to do what it thinks is politically expedient at the time they are in the situation.

Re: Supreme Court vacancy
I imagine conservatives view controlling the SC for 2 reasons.
1. abolish abortion 2. run to Courts to stop anything a Dem president or legislature passes. Re abortion .. do conservatives really think abolishing abortion is a winning strategy going forward? Their hardcore religious base may finally get their wish .. but I just dont see many new voters or independents joining a party that puts religion above politics and the Constitution. re SC to block Dem laws ... if this happens repeatedly and it becomes apparent that the conservative SC is not applying the law but now just a political branch serving just conservatives ... wont that be the end of the SC? Why wouldnt Dems just add 43 new justices and make the SC the theatre of the absurd? Wouldnt the deference to the SC be greatly diminished in the eyes of Americans? |

You guys hate the freedom part of civil liberties and want big brother. A lot of people/media go 2nd amendment, Abortion, etc, but I don’t.
With the freedom of religion - im somewhat naive to that bc im not religious. With Hobby Lobby not wanting to be forced to cover birth control, I agreed with Hobby Lobby on that and I could see where they were coming from. With a valedictorian of a public school wanting to thank god or spend a min or so of a 10 min speech on god, im fine with that. I am against school sponsored prayer, I am for allowing students gather and do religious type things after hours on school property. -------------- The U.S. Supreme Court banned school-sponsored prayer in public schools in a 1962 decision, saying that it violated the First Amendment. But students are allowed to meet and pray on school grounds as long as they do so privately and don't try to force others to do the same. The group included William McLeod, a 9-year-old Utah boy who was forced to remove the cross of ashes from his forehead on Ash Wednesday. "I just don't want anyone to feel like that," McLeod said. It said there has been an increasing number of reports of schools promoting prayer in ways that cross the line — such as an Alabama high school where a student football team was baptized at school. Joseph Kennedy, a Washington state high school football coach who lost his job after he refused to stop praying on the field after games. https://www.npr.org/2020/01/16/796864399/exclusive-trump-to-reinforce-protections-for-prayer-in-schools -------------------- I do not think the kid on Ash Wednesday should have been forced to remove the ask cross from his forehead. The coach holding prayer sessions after football games ... Im torn on that one bc i could see students feel like they need to participate even though they are not religious. Others will say its after the game and voluntary .. but if the coach felt so strong about it here that he wouldnt stop and lost his job for it ... is it really a stretch to imagine he would view or bench a player who didnt take part or who said he doesnt believe in god? The religious thing always gets me ... bc to me what is the big fucking deal? as long as my kid isnt subject to a morning prayer, I dont care. ------------- When was the last time you went to church? |

It's gonna be amazing when Trump nominates a woman and the whole women's rights movement pauses for a couple months while liberal media shreds that poor woman a new asshole thru election day. Of course everyone knows that only applied to liberal women anyways. Conservatives of any race, sex, etc., don't get the same treatment as liberals. But liberals have the most amazing ability in the world to pat themselves on the back as the party of tolerance. It really is quite impressive.

The democratic party is an evil party. But their koolaid is stronger than 25 years of Redskins/WFT koolaid combined. They control the media and education. And its been like that for a long ass time. Can't believe there are any of us conservatives left. But the blinders are on. Proven just with the media alone. Besides Fox News (who also has a bunch of fake ass conservatives I have no respect for), liberals have literally every other channel. But somehow every other channel compared to 1 is equal. I mean it's actually impressive. And they're still obsessed with Fox. And anything they report is biased. But all the other channels are just Honest Abe's. Note - Shout out to Mooby. Re: Supreme Court vacancy
Vetting Barrett to see if she will follow the law and not apply her own standards is the very basis of vetting a SC nominee. Given Barrett's background and past associations, a big part of her vetting is if she will follow precedent of Roe v Wade. When they question her on whether she will follow the law of the land, thats not attacking her, thats questioning whether she will be able to put her religious beliefs aside and apply the law.
Appears she has only been on the Appellate bench for 3 years. Professor before that with little to no prior experience being an actual trial attorney. As a trial attorney who does jury trials and appeals, I strongly prefer going before a judge who once practiced law themselves. Who knew what it was like to be in the trenches, to go before a judge who had a bad morning and carried that into the courtroom, or a dishonest difficult opposing counsel. ------- “Life begins at conception,” she told Notre Dame Magazine, who also described Barrett’s view on Roe v. Wade as "creating through judicial fiat a framework of abortion on demand.” For her part, Barrett is a practicing Roman Catholic and mother of seven. She is well-known throughout conservative circles for putting her religious convictions at the forefront of her work and identity. “Her religious convictions are pro-life, and she lives those convictions,” said U.S. district Judge Patrick J. Schiltz, one of her mentors. https://www.refinery29.com/en-us/2020/09/10037668/judge-amy-coney-barrett-abortion-views-supreme-court-nominee |
