Re: With the 13th Pick the Washington Redskins select...
Well, that didn't take long.
Just listened to Cooley's film breakdown. The bottom line is he isn't Fournette. He is a less talented version of Fournette who Cooley said emphatically shouldn't be taken at 13 or in the 1st round at all. Listen to it and see what you think, it is labeled as the film breakdown on 980 website. No link to the clip.
Now is he as talented as Fournette? No, but from a production standpoint I watched every LSU game this season and to say he isnt a 1st round pick at all is asanine. The production is there, he led the SEC in rusbing with Fournette there. Cooley also said just keep picling backs in the 4th and 5th till you find one then said David Johnson was a 5th round pick when he was a 3rd. |
Re: With the 13th Pick the Washington Redskins select...
Trading back is cool in theory but you have to find a willing partner to trade with and not trade yourself out of a player you actually want just for a pick. (2011 we traded down with JJ Watt on the board and ended up with Kerrigan and Jarvis freaking Jenkins

Re: With the 13th Pick the Washington Redskins select...
I really don't disagree with you.
I wouldn't be upset if our talent evaluators drafted him based on their grade, not Cooley's at whatever pick matches their grade. I have read about and totally agree with the idea that college production should be discounted somewhat and traits should be prioritized in assigning grades. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk |

Re: With the 13th Pick the Washington Redskins select...
My feeling now is minkah Fitzpatrick is there it’s a no brainer. The Skins would probably reject all offers to move back and take Fitzpatrick. This is the guy they want

Re: With the 13th Pick the Washington Redskins select...
Just listened to Friday's Cooley show.
He broke down Ronald Johnson USC TH. Said he is better than Guice and was a perfect fit for our scheme. He is a second round guy which would free up 13 for defense. He also did breakdowns on Vea and Payne. He said they would instantly become the best run defender on the roster of drafted. He doesn't like them at 13 because of lack of versatility. It's a really good listen. Goes into strengths and weaknesses. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk |

Re: With the 13th Pick the Washington Redskins select...
Who I want them to take: trade down
My best guess on who they will take: no clue Most disappointed if they do take: Da'ron Payne players that I like at pick 13: Lamar Jackson Baker Mayfield Denzel Ward Derwin James Josh Jackson Jaire Alexander Calvin Ridley Maurice Hurst - my favorite player but 13 could be "too early" for him but he'll certainly be gone by the next pick Will Hernandez |
Re: With the 13th Pick the Washington Redskins select...
My Board. I put a spacer in there intentionally because I feel like there's a talent dropoff at that point. The hope would be one of those guys in the top 9 drop down to us. And if it's any of the QBs then trade down is really in play.
I want a very athletic player out of this first pick. Having it in the secondary would thrill me with James or Minkah. That'd be my first preference. 1) Saquon Barkley 2) Bradley Chubb 3) Quentin Nelson 4) Sam Darnold 5) Minkah Fitzpatrick 6) Josh Rosen 7) Derwin James 8) Roquan Smith 9) Tremaine Edmunds 10) Josh Allen 11) Denzel Ward 12) Vita Vea 13) Marcus Davenport 14) Baker Mayfield 15) Calvin Ridley 16) Josh Jackson 17) Da'Ron Payne |
Re: With the 13th Pick the Washington Redskins select...
And I should note. Just because I have Calvin Ridley at 15 and Da'Ron Payne at 17 doesn't mean I'd take Ridley over Payne. I think the grades are close enough there that I'd break the tie and go for need.
So maybe I need to tier this a bit more, visually: 1) Saquon Barkley 2) Bradley Chubb 3) Quentin Nelson 4) Sam Darnold 5) Minkah Fitzpatrick 6) Josh Rosen 7) Derwin James 8) Roquan Smith 9) Tremaine Edmunds 10) Josh Allen 11) Denzel Ward 12) Vita Vea 13) Marcus Davenport 14) Baker Mayfield 15) Calvin Ridley 16) Josh Jackson 17) Da'Ron Payne |

Right now ive entered another stream of consciousness... Draft Jedi type thing. One thing through this process has remained...Minkah Fitzpatrick draft stock from last year til right now has remained solid as the top 1 or 2 defensive graded player from most accounts. Would they go Fitzpatrick over James?
Would they go Fitzpatrick over James?
From what Ive heard, they are extremely high on both and I haven't heard a delineation between the two. I think it would be really unlikely if both are there...it really depends if an OT and WR is reached (very well could happened, extremely limited FA/elite prospects at both positions) before us. Both are what teams crave from back line defenses...ball hawks and scheme/package versatility. Its not about Free vs Strong anymore. And from what Ive seen and read, Minkah gets the slight edge in both. |
Re: With the 13th Pick the Washington Redskins select...
I can't wait until Thursday lol

Re: With the 13th Pick the Washington Redskins select...
Listening to Greg Cosell break them down he says Minkah is more versatile, James is a freak athletically but more of an in the box type of safety. And he did mention Sean Taylor in comparing their measurables.
I’d be pretty happy with either one. |

https://www.nfl.com/prospects/derwin-james?id=32462018-0002-5600-6615-53f9661a6a43 Thrilled with either as well. What I really like about Minkah: •Extremely competitive play demeanor with a history of showing up big in the biggest games •Has nine career interceptions and four pick-sixes (4 pick sixes is a record at Alabama) What you get with both, around the LOS both are extremely good at rushing the passer, blitzing off corner. This is something only few Safeties can do well. |
Re: With the 13th Pick the Washington Redskins select...
#Redskins Doug Williams says guard is not an absolute priority in the draft. On Alex Smith: "We got the best third-round pick in the draft."
Means we are taking a G lol JK |

Buttering up my girl tonight with taking her to dinner so I can do some serious draft watching Thursday-Saturday.
Denzel Ward is my final guess as we get lucky again with a top 10 talent falling to us. |

Here are 11 players that are probably gone before pick #13, so one or the other should be available. (or both) 1) Darnold QB 2) Barkley RB 3) Nelson G 4) Rosen QB 5) Chubb DE 6) Allen QB 7) Ward CB 8) Mayfield QB 9) Davenport DE 10) Edmunds LB 11) Smith LB no special order |

Just listened to it. The closer we get to the draft, the more I hear and understand the "100% BPA over need" approach, the idea of getting a real baller/future All Pro truly is exciting. I'm still worried about our DL, but if we get a playmaker in the front 7 in Tremaine Edmunds, and Allen, Ioannidis and Taylor stay healthy... it would still be an improved version of our defense at the beginning of last season. All Cooley pre draft breakdowns, it's pretty obvious LB Tremaine Edmunds and S Derwin James are the 2 he likes the most, and Guice the one he likes the least, Payne and Vea he likes but not at 13: Derrius Guice DaRon Payne and Vita Vea Minkah Fitzpatrick and Derwin James Roquan Smith and Tremaine Edmunds |

My guess is that you're right about that, based on history. Yet I just can't get out of my head the idea that we should trade down and pick up another 2nd or 3rd or even a 3rd and a 4th or 5th. We have holes to fill. I guess I feel strongly both ways. Sigh. I have a bad case of draftitis. |

I feel like every scenario with over a 50% chance of happening has been played through over and over. Yet undoubtedly one team will shock everybody with either an incredibly bold move, or an incredibly stupid pick. I can't see us picking at 13. If we do, I would wonder what Bruce was asking for the pick. |
Re: With the 13th Pick the Washington Redskins select...
Yeah somebody always makes a reach pick for a need, or unexpectedly trades up to grab a player before somebody else. It's a virtual certainty in my mind that at least one of those events will happen in the top 12.
One of the elite athletes is going to make it to us, I just hope we're smart enough to take him and not go for Guice or some bullshit. |

Highest percentage in the league
Percentage is a poor way to evaluate it, that's why. It's more important to have a higher number of pro bowlers coming out of first round picks than it is to have a higher percentage. Would you rather be the Vikings who picked in the first round 13 times and landed 9 pro bowlers, or the Redskins who picked in the first round only 8 times and landed 6 pro bowlers? I'll take 9 over 6, even if the 6 was a higher hit rate. More swings of the bat is the key. |
