Re: Replacement refs: The story the NFL wants to keep quiet
My problem the refs aren't limited to bad calls, but with like others have said the lack of control of the game and the lack of respect that the players have for the refs. The head referee in our game looked as though he had no idea what was going on when he came out to make a call.
I have said "that was the worst officiated game I have ever seen" before but those games didn't come close to the lack of officiating that happened yesterday. I am not blaming them for the game and I am not saying that the Rams werent on the receiving end of some missed and bad calls either. There were plenty of opportunities for us to win this game. |

Peter King takes it to the replacement refs.

Re: Replacement refs: The story the NFL wants to keep quiet
I never said the refs made bad calls against us, in fact it appears you missed my point entirely. The refs made bad calls against both sides. I agree that they missed the td call, but Fisher certainly had the option to challenge and he elected not to. Jackson's run should've been from the 17 yard line, because the refs didn't penalize Jeff Fisher 15 yards for challenging an automatically reviewed play, so that entire sequence of events was ****ed up. And he was pulled from the game because he had a groin injury, not because Fisher benched him for spiking the ball. Might want to read up on that, yeah? And I agree with you in that they were more physical, but they were definitely more physical after the whistle too, as well as taking every opportunity they could to talk shit to our guys to get them to retaliate.
I agree we were out-coached, but for far different reasons. They knew how to gameplan for Haz's defense from the start, and he never adjusted because he apparently doesn't adjust. As far as offense goes, not much was working. The Rams sent pressure on anything longer than a 3 step drop, and even screens weren't working. They were just ready for what we tried to do. But the offense still put up 21 points, and we had a 21-6 lead. That was plenty enough to win the game right there, but the defense couldn't hold them. At the end of the day though, the thing with the refs that most concerns me is their failure to maintain control throughout the game. There was a lot of cheap shots going on, post-whistle scrums, and I felt like it was obvious they were trying to get away with a lot more stuff than they'd try to do if the normal refs were in there. I'm not concerned about the calls, because like I said there were plenty of bad calls on both sides.
During the game at least twice I heard announcers say that when asked the Rams sideline stated nothing was physically wrong with Jackson. If Fischer changed the story later that's his deal. I have no idea what you're talking about otherwise....just lots of randomness there. Bottom line we we're soundly outcoached in all facets of the game i.e. special teams, offense and defense. Any discussion of the refs is just making excuses. |

Gonna be a tough game with all the hoopla of RGIII's first game at home, but I think we'll come out very aggressive on both sides of the ball. |
Re: Replacement refs: The story the NFL wants to keep quiet
I don't think anyone is or should be pinning the loss on the replacement refs. But they are a major concern not just for the Skins but for the entire league. And as the season goes on, the problem is only going to get worse.
The league can go on and on about player safety all they want, but when they are willing to trot out subpar refs who have no control of the game or respect from the players and coaches, let alone knowledge and understanding of the NFL rules, it's a problem. |

Who's to blame for the deal not getting done with the regular refs?

Any discussion of the refs is just making excuses.
I think I'm just about done with this argument. We're not on the same page at all. You seem to think I'm blaming the refs for this loss, and as is the case anytime we lose, you're putting it all on the coaches. The sad part is that for the most part I agree with you, I think Has' inability to adjust to Bradford picking apart our zone schemes, combined with their gameplan to get the ball out quickly, is what cost us the most, along with some timely plays like the punt block and RG3's pick. The majority of that falls on the coaches. My point in regards to this thread is that I don't like the way the refs can't control the players. The constant cheap shots, post-whistle baiting, and a general lack of control means that sooner or later it's going to get worse, and someone's either going to get injured or the refs will soon start missing easy calls and it will cost a team a game. It's not about the actual calls as it is about the safety of the players and the ability of the refs to keep the game moving in a timely fashion. And they are failing in that aspect so far. But please, keep telling me how this is all the coaches' fault and Jeff Fisher was the epitome of calm, as were his players. Tell me that the Rams' backup tackle slipped and hit Fletcher after the whistle and that it wasn't a blatant cheap shot, or that Robert Quinn didn't push RG3's face into the ground after his sack, or that the Rams players weren't constantly talking shit after the whistle in an effort to bait us, or even that they weren't taking every opportunity to get every late hit possible, because all that just didn't happen right? I'll finish it off with this, I think you're one of those people that reach their own conclusions, and then the reality you see is spent reinforcing those conclusions, even if nobody else sees what you're talking about. Because you are the only person I know that seems to think the Rams and Fisher were calm and collected during yesterday's game, and I have no earthly idea how you reached that conclusion. Add to that the fact that you hate Shanahan and it's easy to see how you're pinning this all on him. |

I was listening to the game last night on the radio and Boomer Esiason went off on the refs. He was unloading on them, every time he would bashem i would think damn i cant believe he just said that!!! And his partner(I think it was Ian Eagle) would take the high road every time.

Re: Replacement refs: The story the NFL wants to keep quiet
Let's see what the league's reaction to all the post play altercations are. If they respond with heavy fines on players that were obviously wrong, but no penalty was called, ie the rolling up on Fletcher, then maybe they can impose some sort of calm and order from above. If, on the other hand they just sit with their heads in the sand, this coming week could be even worse. I don't see how that is possible:(

And I've watched Angel Hernandez ump baseball games... It was a three ring circus from start to finish, and I can't imagine the NFL isn't meeting secretly right now to try and figure out how to get out of the mess they've created without appearing to cave in and give the real refs everything they want. (which isn't much, it boils down to them not wanting to lose their already earned penchant plans, while being willing to let new hires not have penchants). Greedy nose-despite-face hubris on the part of the rich douche bags who happen to own the golden goose. |
Re: Replacement refs: The story the NFL wants to keep quiet
LOL! I had to share this with you guys. There is ONE NFL fan who must not know anything about the game, or is deaf, dumb, and blind. Got this from another discussion forum:
I've watched several games and, honestly, haven't missed the "real" refs at all. At least they aren't as bad as the NBA refs yet. I'll admit, I don't watch the NBA so I can't really comment on that part of his post, but if one pays any ounce of attention to the NFL, they can't honestly say these refs are no worse than the regulars. |
Re: Replacement refs: The story the NFL wants to keep quiet
honestly between the games i watched sunday and last night.... im disgusted... i'm going to hersey park next sunday with the gf, not just cuz she begged me to and sundays are the only days the free tix are good for, but because football is making me sick right now... i havent missed a redskins game in like 10 years, and honestly right now, i almost dont even feel remorsefull, and alot of this is because of the refs shitty performance.
