Re: Start John Beck Madness Thread
rex arm looked pretty live last year, this year not so much. i had to turn the radio dial this preseason when a natl nfl expert said rex had above avg arm strength. not this year, that expert must not have watched many rex games preseason.20-30 yds hes good enough, 40 plus yards .. well i dont think ive seen him throw a bomb inside the play of field yet.
I would say that Rex doesn't have the lack of production to consider Beck. I would agree, however, that Beck doesn't have the production to consider Beck.lol
You go to Beck now you have to stick with him - barring an injury. That is the main reason I don't think it will happen. Shanny is not willing to make that gamble and potentially tank the season with the team sitting where it is. He would look like a fool if Beck came in and struggled - losing games single-handedly.
I don't think it will happen either if I had to bet on who starts against the Eagles. However there is no rule that says you have to stick with a particular QB. It's just rare because of the time and investment needed to develop a QB and get him up to speed. Fortunately we have two QB's that got sufficient reps and attention during training camp, so the usual guidelines don't really apply here. This isn't replacing Grossman for Kerry Collins off the street the week before the season starts. Really more then anything is it boils down to me wanting to use the bootleg as a supplement to the now productive running game. |

3 pages on this already? This thread will never die, probably not for the rest of the season at least.

It'll be like the Gano has to go and the D.Hall thread. Every time Grossman farts the wrong way this thread will get bumped. lol |
Re: Start John Beck Madness Thread
The problem I have with Beck is that he's a Mormon and those white Mormon choir boys are too prissy to be good leaders...
Let's see who gets that |
Re: Start John Beck Madness Thread
^ Is that a dig at Mitt Romney?
|
Re: Start John Beck Madness Thread
id bet any amount of fictional internet money rex put up they worst stat line (qb rating, pass completion, yds per completion) for a qb who didnt get sacked.
i think rex' play was bad but to repeat myself, i dont think we get much more our of beck so why bother. but you cant discount or overlook how bad rex looked. only reason we won was b/c the rams sucked, our D got 7 sacks held them to under 50 yds running and 149 yds total offense, their receivers dropped plenty of balls and we ran very well. its amazing we won with what rex brought, really a once in a season thing imo. |

Re: Start John Beck Madness Thread
What happens if Rex costs us a game or two and Beck comes in and plays really well?
Then Beck stays. Duh. BUT, you do not make the change unless and until Rex - and Rex alone - loses the game. |
Re: Start John Beck Madness Thread
The only thing Beck has over Grossman is this...he can run the bootleg, oh yeah, he's a bit younger. Grossman aint great, but he's average, and that is as good or better than the alternative.

Re: Start John Beck Madness Thread
Rex was responsible for one pick. All I want out of Rex is a game manager, but I don't think that KS' play calling is helping with that.
And what happens when we get Beck? We get another game manager.
At some point your QB has to be able to make plays and Rex can't consistently do so. We're not good enough for him to be a game manager. At least Beck can get out on the edge w/ his mobility and has the bigger arm. The bigger upside is w/ Beck. |
I'll throw in my own cliche. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure :D
That's the whole problem, you don't know if that "prevention" is actually a "prevention". It very well could make the symptom worse and not be a cure. Until his play costs us a game, you don't make the switch. |

I think you are giving Beck too much credit. |
Re: Start John Beck Madness Thread
I still can't figure out what Beck has done that makes so many people think he is going to make this team so much better, or that he is a better option than Rex. Is it his career 56% completion percentage, his 1-3 TD to INT ratio, or maybe it is his whopping 111 yards passing per game played. I know, I know...it is because he runs the bootleg better...Yep, better get him in there against Philly next game. CHAMPIONSHIP!!!
Pfffff... |

Re: Start John Beck Madness Thread
First INT wasn't his fault and the second was a timing route and the LB made an amazing play. I am less confident in Kyle Shanahan than I am Rex.

They'll have to cover for each other somehow to limit costly mistakes. |

2nd time logic has been brought into this thread! Stop it people, this thread is all about irrational decision making and the belief that the backup is always better than the starter. |
Re: Start John Beck Madness Thread
Or maybe Beck should be in there because he only averages one fumble per game and his passer rating is a cool 62%.
|

I say they bring back Cult Brennan. It's the only way to be sure.

That is so awesome -- and Vick is playing pretty well so isn't the cause. That's what happens when you put too many new pieces in, they don't mesh and that can cause problems |
Rex throws an awful ball on 3rd and 3 causing the skins to have to punt late in the game, underthrows Davis on another passing attempt -- we can go back and forth all day, he even had a play where he was flushed out of the pocket and didn't get it back to the line of scrimmage - a grounding penalty which the refs missed.
The point is when you're running all over the Rams all day long Kyle SHOULD Not have rex throw on 3 and 3 |

Re: Start John Beck Madness Thread
I'd definitely increase Becks reps in practice and have him and rex go compete like their both fighting for the starting spot.
Beck is also way more athletic than Rex. |

Maybe if he is watching highlights of the 2nd half of the Detroit / Dallas game on ESPN :) News flash , J Jones hires another team doctor , to be ready to perform emergancy heimlich maneuvers on Romo during games for remainder of the 2011 season to prevent persistant choking . |

Re: Start John Beck Madness Thread
It's like any other position. You have to look at it on an a player by player basis. This win was in spite of Rex and last week wasn't much better. Besides worse comes to worse you can always go back to Rex. It's time to take advantage of not having to manage the ego of a big name QB.
Well if thats the case we need to bench all our D's backfield becuase despite their luck if the ram's WR's caught all their drops they probably would have another three TD's. |
