re: Redskins and Vikings agree on McNabb trade (updated: deal is done)
I just think that they had Jackson sitting there, he's got game experience, why not just let him play instead of trading for McNabb? That way they keep the picks.... and to be honest, at this point, is there a big upgrade between McNabb and Jackson??
One minor error in the logic here: Tarvaris Jackson is NOT on the Vikings' roster. The team and the QB parted company at the end of the 2010 season and he is an unrestricted free agent as of March 2011. Rumor has Jackson going to the Seahawks... Vikings' QBs as of the opening of camp are Christian Ponder and Joe Webb and Rhett Bomar. Also familiar with their system from time on the squad last year is Patrick Ramsey. |
re: Redskins and Vikings agree on McNabb trade (updated: deal is done)
So we're getting a conditional 6th in 2013 now? We can't even get a 6th in 2012? Damn. :/ Better than nothing I suppose? Any idea on concrete terms of the deal?

Right now it seems like a 2012 6th and a conditional 2013 6th, and McNabb will work out a new contract with Minn on Wed. |
re: Redskins and Vikings agree on McNabb trade (updated: deal is done)
Considering what we gave up to get him, I just want to put this one behind us and move on. Ugh.

True, but it's definitely disappointing that we gave up a 2nd and a 4th for him, and one year later, the best we can apparantly do (barring something unforeseen in the next couple days or so) is two 6th rounders in two years. On the bright side at least we didn't release him, and potentially get nothing for him. Although I still have that remaining question, if we released him and he went and got a nice sized deal and had a Pro Bowl year somewhere else, would we get a 3rd round comp pick for him? I know the comp pick strategy chart has something to do with losing more players than you take in, but I don't know the exact details. |

As I understand it,
the conditional 2013 pick is as low as a 6th, but could go much higher |

Come back Vinny, all is forgiven. :(

I agree. If you had told me when they got McNabb this is how it would turn out I'd have told you you are crazy. I really thought the DM trade was a huge upgrade at QB but it wasnt. Maybe Minn can get DM to get in shape and set aside his ego and do things their way but I doubt this old dog will want to learn new tricks. |

He expects a deal to get done very soon. |

Whatever..... thats a 6th rounder I didn't have yesterday.
Lets get a real QB now. |

That's what Schefter is saying: "Adam Schefter Donovan McNabb expected to be dealt to Vikings later today. But as of this morning, Redskins and McNabb's agent both say no deal yet." |

mortreport:
If finalized, McNabb deal w Vikings looks like a 6th rd in '12 & conditional 6th in '13. @AdamSchefter will update in a few on SportsCenter |

re: Redskins and Vikings agree on McNabb trade (updated: deal is done)
To get anything is gravy to me. And we've seen how this FO can wheel and deal on draft day, so extra picks are a bonus.

re: Redskins and Vikings agree on McNabb trade (updated: deal is done)
Wish we had gotten more, but happy to be past it. Not exactly the best way to start a new regime, trading a 2nd and a 4th for two 6th's and a one year QB rental.
Every regime, everywhere has a big personnel move blow up. Hopefully, that was Shanallen's and they got it out of their system. I have been a fan of almost all their other moves. |
re: Redskins and Vikings agree on McNabb trade (updated: deal is done)
On the other hand (and I wasn't a fan of the McNabb move), we now have a clean start at QB. Hard to put it in words, but basically, we gave up a 2nd and 4th for Mcnabb, but got a 4th for Campbell, and likely 2 6ths for McNabb. Given the state of our QB quagmire of the past 5 years, I would say that a clean slate with 3 extra picks was as good an ending of the past as anything else.

McNabb trade creates additional $4.75 million in salary cap space for the #Redskins. |

Haynesworth is next on the list. I'm excited for that ham sandwich.
Skins get a 6th for Mcnabb... Damn thats it? wow
That's a great deal..,.possibly 2 6th-round picks. If Minnesota was start, they'd wait for McNabb to be released and get him for free, but they're obviously: *Aware of the competition from other teams needing QBs, particular vet QBs because of all of the 1st-round QB projects picked this year *Worried about the lack of TC and preparation that Ponder was allowed to get. No way any team that drafted a QB and wants to start them Week 1 are ready. Tennessee, Minnesota, Jacksonville, Carolina...all going to need to start the regular season with a vet QB who can teach the rookie. Hasselbeck/McNabb/Garrard/Claussen will be starting Week 1. Bengals are screwed with Dalton in Week 1...but they're screwed in so many other ways too. |
Re: Redskins and Vikings agree on McNabb trade (updated: deal is done)
I didnt read this thread but is anyone else kinda happy mcnabb got out of town and to a team he wanted (minn) as an end to the short and turbulent season he spent with us.
Im just glad he gets to go and finish his career on his terms. Sucks we lost draft picks on the deal but atleast we didnt do him dirty. |

I'm content with the compensation. I was expecting a 5th, but two 6's are good too. I do see what your saying though, and I like that we sent him into a good situation. I'm thinking of it more selfishly though. I want to create good will with the players. I don't want to be known as the team that screws you over once you sign with them. Sending McNabb to a seemingly good situation pleases me in that regard. |
Re: Redskins and Vikings agree on McNabb trade (updated: deal is done)
The Vikes were the only serious team after DM. If another team was offering a lot more, you'd have to think the Skins would have considered shipping him elsewhere.

Re: Redskins and Vikings agree on McNabb trade (updated: deal is done)
Here's an update from my wife Kelli Johnson...
"Kelli Johnson Source tells me.. Donovan McNabb trade is not done yet. Reports are inaccurate... Vikings & Skins are still talking" |
Re: Redskins and Vikings agree on McNabb trade (updated: deal is done)
For all the crap I've (deservedly) given the Redskins front office since last April 4 about falling into the franchise QB trap, this was a little bit of Wizardry by the Redskins.
Also consider that the last three players in franchise history that brought back draft picks in a trade: Donovan McNabb, Jason Campbell, Patrick Ramsey. If you're aloof enough, this probably tells you we're doing a lot better at the QB position building depth relative to other positions. |
Re: Redskins and Vikings agree on McNabb trade (updated: deal is done)
Now the Vikings will get to learn what the Eagles and Skins already know. Thanks for a little compensation.
Here's an update from my wife Kelli Johnson...
"Kelli Johnson Source tells me.. Donovan McNabb trade is not done yet. Reports are inaccurate... Vikings & Skins are still talking"
McNabb is holding things up with some petty personal complaints. Apparently, he's concerned that the Vikings were thinking about signing Tyler Thigpen and Donovan feels threatened about it. He's always been a drama queen.
The one sticking point now appears to be McNabb's concern Tuesday night about how the Vikings' side of the situation was handled. Sources said there were some in the organization who expressed a preference in acquiring quarterback Tyler Thigpen, who since has agreed to terms with the Buffalo Bills. The Vikes have a better offensive line than we've had for the past two/three seasons, and a running game that is much better the Eagles have ever had. A QB like McNabb was meant to go to a team with a lot of things in place, not a rebuilding team like ours. I don't think they'll be a playoff team b/c of the competition within the division, but there's a possibility that he might do better. |
Re: Redskins and Vikings agree on McNabb trade (updated: deal is done)
Vikings will finish last in their division:
Packers Lions Bears Vikings |
Re: Redskins and Vikings agree on McNabb trade (updated: deal is done)
Vikings will finish last in their division:
Packers Lions Bears Vikings
If the Bears' offensive line doesn't hold up, they could be in the running for last place. For the Vikes it will depend on how well their defense and APs running game carries them. But yeah, the Packers and the Lions are going to be at the top. I know it's been said for years, but I really hope this is the year of the Lions, of course this will all depend on Stafford's health. |
