Re: Free Agency/Franchise Tag thread 2011
The Seymour contract does a really good job of protecting the Raiders against deadcap. However, it is hard for me to see him being an effective player in 2012 considering he's already questionably effective as is. It's not a terrible deal, but it doesn't improve the Raiders chances of winning much if any over just letting him walk. And thats a lot of (shared revenue) money spent.
Oakland's big deal is that they were really ridiculously healthy in 2010. The team is on the rise, but even an average amount of injuries would put another .500 season as their ceiling for 2011. |
Cromartie brings a lot baggage, and not just for his Brady Bunch family. Honestly I would keep Rogers over him.
As much as I dislike Rogers, I'm inclined to agree. The devil you know... |
Re: Free Agency/Franchise Tag thread 2011
I don't think 22 will be here so I wouldn't mind making a play for cromartie. Yeah he's a punk off the field but the dude can make plays ON the field and that's all what matters. Plus it's not like he sells dope or shoots anyone, he just likes making babies :)

Re: Free Agency/Franchise Tag thread 2011
I'll take Rogers. He can't catch a cold, but the guy is pretty good corner. If he wants too much money, let him walk. I'd like to see what Kevin Barnes can do. I've felt for some time now that Barnes just might be the guy to play free safety here, so I'd love to see them give him a shot there.

Keep your eye on him, we need OLine help, and he's a Shanahan pick. |

Re: Free Agency/Franchise Tag thread 2011
O.J. Atogwe will more likely be here next year because of Hasslet connection.
|

Cowboys will meet with Atogwe

he didn't come here last year when we had a chance with him. Why would we get him this year. He's another safety who gets injured a lot. |
Re: Free Agency/Franchise Tag thread 2011
Atogwe is almost 30 already and is often Hurt. NO Thanks on him also

Re: Free Agency/Franchise Tag thread 2011
Did I just read correctly that the G-men won't tag Steve Smith? I know he had an injury but maybe we should make a run at him.

Nicks and Mario are both gamers, I guess SSs injury was worse than let on. I'd take a look at him though |

Are the Giants fairly loaded at WR? |
Re: Free Agency/Franchise Tag thread 2011
Yes they are loaded at WR, they also have that Cruz kid who looked good last year.

Maybe but Eli had a special trust with Smith they work very well together ,it gave the Giants the option of keeping in the TE to help with blocking. If he can play the Giants will pay him and keep him. |

Yup, just saw that on Twitter... "Grant Paulsen Confirmed: Free Safety OJ Atogwe is visiting #Redskins Park today. He's a 29yo, 6-yr vet. FS is a major need. He played for Haslett in STL." Hopefully this means they are actually considering FS a need. |
Re: Free Agency/Franchise Tag thread 2011
Told ya OJ would come for a visit.

Re: Free Agency/Franchise Tag thread 2011
Rice doesn't get the tag in Minny. If health is not an issue, he should be a FA priority. He's 24 and can be our #1 WR right away.

Re: Free Agency/Franchise Tag thread 2011
Jets expected to release Gholston, Bills may cut Maybin.
|
Re: Free Agency/Franchise Tag thread 2011
I most certainly hope we will be aggressive with Rice if he stays as FA..
Man, Bills must be kicking themselves for drafting Maybin over Orakpo. On other hand, I would not mind if we give Maybin a chance if he is released. |
Re: Free Agency/Franchise Tag thread 2011
Rice would add some beastliness but wouldn't it be better to bring some young talent?

Yeah bro...........He's only 24. He would be a great pick up |

Agreed. We should add players who are no older than 50 days. |
Re: Free Agency/Franchise Tag thread 2011
well idk he already missed one season
|
Re: Free Agency/Franchise Tag thread 2011
I say just stay away from the well-known free-agents until the team actually has a good foundation of young talent and hardnosed low-profile veterans.
I don't think you make a team better by finding good to great players that's on the front page of the sports section. The less investment made to a good to great player should measure whether a decision is a good one. And in free agency the size of the player's contract equals to the investment being made. |
Re: Free Agency/Franchise Tag thread 2011
With talent on the redskins now, the team needs to try to add more good players rather than investing and tying up salary cap space in trying to add fewer but possibly better high profile players.
These low-profile good players also should come more motivated, looking to prove something. |
Re: Free Agency/Franchise Tag thread 2011
Like the draft, in free agency for the redskins, the more quality players they can add, the better.
|

There's no such roster in the NFL made up of 'low profile good players who are motivated' or 'young hungry players trying to prove themselves'. That's fine for roster spots 43-53 but if you're talking about players who are going to contribute week in and week out, every single Sunday you need playmakers, some are going to cost money and some are going to be high profile. Using your logic to exclude a 24 year old Sydney Rice (or those of his ilk) is as irresponsible as going out and trying to sign anyone and everyone just because ESPN says they are valuable. We have a huge need for a young, big, athletic WR. Rice is 6-4, has great speed, history of success and is 24. If he isn't the #1 free agent on our board that's a huge failure by our front office. |
