Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
Like the move to get Brown, but we have to stop trading away picks for players.
I think we can completely put to rest the notion the Redskins are rebuilding. This is a win now strategy, which makes the defensive switch even more perplexing.
Thats why you have the Capitals. If you want to see a team that likes build through the draft, develop young talent, and bring in a few savy veterans each year then you get to follow the Caps. If you like savy moves that are geared more towards experienced veterans then you get to follow the Redskins for 2010 onward. It's the best of both worlds just in different sports. |
Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
I really hate giving away draft picks, but we did get a pick back. That said, we've got a big upgrade on the line. I'll take it.
|
Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
Agreed hell of a job getting this done. We add nice depth to our line and who knows that we are done adding pieces, there are probably a few more tricks up our fo's sleeves.
|
Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
Yeah...I could completely see Shanny making the move now in particular b/c AH will be out of town before training camp with those lost picks having been recouped. Effectively a Jammal Brown for AH trade which is pretty nice given the circumstances

Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
I feel like I've been talking about this trade forever, was starting to think it might not happen
|
Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
I'm good with the trade.. A 3rd or 4th round pick for a former Pro Bowl LT that we're going to play on the right side? I'm sure an extension is coming that will set our edges for the next 4 years.. Can anyone deny that we've dramatically improved the OL?

Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
Now we have officially improved our line. A line of
Williams, Dockery, Rabach, Williams, Heyer was no better than we had last year when Samuels was healthy...and it wasn't very good. Swapping Brown for Heyer is a big upgrade...really it is. Now the weak link is Rabach and we can live with that. |

I'd love to hear what GTripp thinks about this. I know he and I are on the same page with our disdain for the man. |

Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
Wow, log on to the warpath and hear this news. Really happy, this is something ive been hoping for and thought there was no chance at this point. Brown is obviously not a sure thing but ill be able to sleep a lot better at night.

Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
We need to slow down and spread this JB talk over the next 5+ weeks before training camp starts or we will have nothing to talk about. LOL
HTTR. |
So pro football teams DO need quality OL play? Who knew!
Da da da da daaaa. I'm lovin it! |
Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
I love the move especially if he's fully recovered and back to his pro bowl form of 2 or 3 years ago. I'm still kind of uncertain about our depth on the line though.

Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
Excellent move; you can't guarantee that a 3rd or 4th rounder will be on the team in a few years so if we can get somebody with his level of playing for 3 or 4 years we definitely win.
Think of it this way... Rinehart vs Brown.. who would you pick? |
Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
I like this move also giving we new RT was a area of concern even with Artis Hicks penciled in that spot. I just hope he can return to his form and stay healthy. The O-line is coming along thus far now lets figure a way to get at least a 2nd or 3rd rd pick for AH if he does not want to be here. I would also consider to trade AH for another NFL Defensive pro-bowl player if he fit our need.

Da da da da daaaa. I'm lovin it!
How to remake a line in one year: Draft a potential pro-bowl LT who is starter ready. Trade for a quality RT Sign the best 6th man through free-agency. Draft developmental tackle and center. Ta - daaaa! |
Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
Wow our OL is totally revamped!

LOVE this trade.
But in reality, are we overvaluing a couple of banged up players? We're counting on Kemo (achilles), Carriker (shoulder) & now Brown (hip) - and NONE of whom played a snap last year. If Brown was still a Pro-Bowl caliber OT, would the Saints have let him go for a possible fourth round pick? Are we missing something here? ps. Darn you JoeRedskin!! You got me too. |
Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
I guess I'm one of the few that really don't like this trade. The guy couldn't even get on the field cause he was hurt. So at 29 he's suppose to walk in off the street after being hurt and be a starter at LT in the NFC East? I have my doubts. It's apparent that Allen and Shanahan have 0 rebuilding plan and it's win now. Not so sure this is the best way to go.

Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
I agree. I'm still a sucker for big blockbuster signings -- but isn't this the same as the last 10 years? We're either spending too much or sending away draft picks for players..
And every year we've done this, everyone says "It's different this time." - Albert Haynesworth (2009) - nuff said. most ppl loved this. - Jason Taylor (2008) - last minute decision, most accepted this. he sucked. - Brandon Lloyd/Archuleta (2006) - Gibbs did it, most accepted it. they sucked. - Bruce Smith, Deion, Trotter, etc, etc, etc I'm a Redskins homer, so (again) I'll say that this is "different" and I'm hopeful (perhaps we're giving up lower draft picks for good "value"). But I think we all need to realize, this is the very similar to what we've been doing for years. If the moves work, then Shanahan's a genius. If not, we'll look back and shake our heads. Exactly. Plus we've added another 5th or 6th for next year. For me, Trent Williams and Jammal Brown as our bookends on the line with some combo of Hicks, Capers, Williams and Heyer as our backups is much more appealing than whatever we had last year (sans a healthy Samuels of course). |

There is clearly an effort to "win now". At the same time, the groundwork is being laid for a transition team. To me, given the dearth of talent in important areas of last year's team, it appears to me that Shanahan is attempting to create a team with which he can win games, developing talent behind the starters, and changing the culture of the club. Pretty tall order and, IMO, being carried out in a very methodical way. Last year's O-line was old and lacked talent. True, 29 is not an optimal age BUT unlike the line of the last few years we will actually have some young talent to go with the older vets. Plus, we have drafted developmental lineman for the future (Capers, Cook). Rhinehart hasn't made it to the field despite many opportunities to do so. Maybe that was coaching, maybe that was talent, I am betting if he performs well and shows he can do the job, he gets the RG slot. For this year's 2nd, and next years 3rd and 4th, we have upgraded the QB position and the line in a significant way for the next 3-5 years. We have our 1st and 2nd next year to continue the building. As Tripp said, hopefully, we get to the point where people are trading with us, but it will take a while given how far we have to go. |

Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
How many former 1st rounders are on this O line now? I count T.Williams, M.Williams, J.Brown. Is that all? Certainly collecting those guys these days.

Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
I really thought Rinehart was stepping up last year and was starting to play better, esp. in the Dallas game before he got hurt. A lot of people are forgetting he might've been in line to take all the snaps at RG last year after his 2nd promotion had he not broken his leg. So he might still be capable of stepping up this year.

My memory is the same. Rinehart should be better this year; however, BMW probably has the edge still because of experience, size, strength and talent. Thing is it's hard to imagine BMW healthy through an entire season, so I hope Rinehart is ready to step in and start mauling when he gets the call. |

This is a contract year for Jammal Brown, he was looking at losing his starting job and losing millions next year on his upcoming contract. |

McNabb never plays 16 games and although he is an upgrade over JC, why not keep the picks and keep building? If we were let's say a QB away from contending for a SB then I'd do it. Kinda like the old Tampa Bay teams, they just needed a QB to push them over the hump. Simply not the case here. It just seems like we're always looking for the next best thing. It gets old. |
Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
Mcnabb was not the next great thing around here. We havent had a qb in god knows how long. He is a huge upgrade over the revolving door of guys to play the position. Same with JB we needed another quality T so the fo went out and got one. This is a total change from our old ways. Another poster put it perfect. We now have some depth and youth at a position that had niether last year. In Mcnabb, we finally have a qb.

Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
I think if he returns to his old form, we got a heck of a deal.
If he returns to his old form, we'll see Portis return to his old form. And we'll see our quarterback actually have time to throw a deep ball. I know it sounds crazy, but its true. And I think, officially, its called a "bomb". I can't remember for sure, but I think thats what its called AND WE'LL ACTUALLY GET TO SEE A REDSKINS QUARTERBACK THROW ONE!!!! :woot: |
Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
Huge move. I was concerned about Hicks playing RT, but now with Brown at RT we can slide Hicks to RG and IMO we now have the best O-line in the NFC East assuming we're healthy, but i also think this move shows the lack of trust Shanahan has in our O-line/depth. If Brown is healthy and motivated to get back to being a pro-bowl caliber LT/RT this is a steal.

Allen and Shanny make much smarter choices than Vinny and Snyder.. And not to mention, Snyder isn't involved with all of those moves.. It's becoming obvious Allen and Shanny want to win now or soon, so they are making those kind of choices.. I am not saying that because we have Allen and Shanny, we are guaranteed to good season with all new additions, but that we have better chance of being successful.. Don't forget we still have Haynesworth, if we could trade him then we probably would get 3rd round for him.. Pretty a good trade, Brown for Haynesworth.. Since we are in different Redskins era now, we don't really know what to expect because the whole system from up to bottom, on & off field is different. I am in 'wait and see' mode.. |
