Vet min? Or, maybe a 7th rounder if they're under contract? Maybe we could get Brees and the Saints kicker if we throw in a 5th rounder. I think they'd bite.

I'll tell you who i signed in madden to replace Suisham with.

Rhys Lloyd....i got him soley for the reason his kick power was 97 vs Suisham's 81 or whatever it was....and by the end of his 1st season his power was 98, and accuracy was 95.....

But lloyd is in Carolina right now IIRC....

Yeah, but Gostkowski and Vinatieri are perfect from inside 30 this year ;)

I do feel bad for Suisham, but again, while he's 18-21 this year, his 3 misses were costly.

Yeah, I do too. He seems like a genuinely good guy. He has a job to do, though. Still, making a change at this point would be pointless, IMO.

The percentage reference was kind of tongue in cheek. ;)

As was mine :)

I'll agree to disagree with it being pointless. If one of the areas the Skins were to heavily evaluate during this coming offseason is kicker, why not start now when the season isn't on the line? Hell, Suisham got the job in the first place replacing someone (Novak, who's name oddly enough has been thrown around in this thread) late in the season.

I'm not going to lose any sleep if they don't boot Suisham, but at the same time, why hold onto someone who continually is 1 kick away (or 4 games at this point) from losing his job?
Suisham alone didn't cost the game, but that FG would have forced the Saints to score twice in regulation. There would have been no JC pass that was intercepted, and only if we failed to recover an expected onside kick would we have lost that game. I think Suisham should get cut, and we bring in someone to audition for the next 4 games. Simple enough. Is it gonna fix the Skins, no but it gives the team someone to evaluate. Remember Suisham's kickoffs land at the 10 yard line, so we aren't sacrificing an excellent KO guy either.
Believe me they would of found away for the Saints to score twice. Once in awhile they fix games & this was one of them.

Ridiculous assertion. But playing along, let's also assert that someone texted Suisham with a certain Caymen Islands number. And maybe Ocho tweeted it to him and the code was that he would wear a sombrero if the money was in the account.

Sorry guys, there was no fix, the Skins lost, plain and simple. For someone to have the fix on, they would have had to expect the Skins to be in the game, and most profi's weren't expecting that at all. If the Saints had shaved points, maybe, but the Skins had that game in their grasp, and as they have done before, they lost it. Was there poor officiating, yeah, maybe, but the Skins get that kick and the Saints lose. Pretty simple.

ok, I won't but I think its far more plausible that the Skins blew the game, than that the NFL conspired to keep the Saints undefeated. again, its really just fans looking for any straw.

I mean really at this point, what sense does it make? Four meaningless games left, whatever. I think its more about sending a message. If this was the first time this guy failed in the clutch, I wouldnt be this upset about it... but didn't we cut Bret Conway in 2000 after he missed a big kikc against the Giants? I'm sorry, this is why kickers get paid, to make those kicks.

Suisham doesn't deserve to be here next year, go ahead and find out who might be; get a jump on it before someone who could work out is picked up by someone else in the off-season. If whoever we try out doesn't work, we're in the same spot, so no big deal.

Yeah that's the big thing. I mean he's over 85% but his misses couldn't be at worse times.. they weren't longer than what you'd expect your kicker to make.. and they're coming in consecutive games. Suisham is to Redskins kicking in December as Romo is to Cowboys quarterbacking in December. One of these years when we do make the playoffs we're going to need a pretty surefire leg working for us.
As a moderator, I know right now I shouldnt make a dumb thread like this, but I honestly hate Shaun Suisham that much. I have absolutley loathed this guy since he missed the kick against Seattle in 2007 in the playoffs, and even when he started this season perfect, I knew he was gonna screw us as soon as there was pressure on... and look at it, its December, his kickoffs are only going ot the ten yard line and the he misses big kicks for us... is there ANYONE better out there?
I agree. Should've got rid of him after that playoff game in 07. When you miss kicks like he does not only does it take automatic points off the board but it's a huge momentum swing. And every big kick he misses it seems like the it just deflates the team. But no need to hate the guy. He didn't steal your girlfriend or anything. lol.

Not trying to jack this thread but I'm so damn happy Alabama won. I'm so tired of the Tim Tebow love fest. The announcers are seriously gay for him. He got exposed Sat.

Graham was a stud kicker while at Florida State and he was also Florida States punter which could be an advantage to free up a space on the 53 man roster.

Some of his senior year stats in college are:

* As a senior Graham was awarded the nation's top honor for a placekicker when he won the Lou Groza Award and presented the trophy live on The Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show

* Graham 24 of 26 field goals in 2008 while leading the nation in field goals per game (2.18) and leading all kickers scoring 9.55 points a game with his only misses coming from 50 and 52, not 23 (Suisham).

* Made a school-record 18 straight field goals, tied for the national lead in field goals made (24) and led the country with five made kicks from at least 50 yards

* Duirng the last year of his career at Florida State, Graham was asked and slated to become the first player in school history to handle all of the kicking duties - consisting of punting, placements and kickoffs - for the 2008 season

* Named the top punter in the ACC by the Sporting News

* Has been Florida State's punter (42.1 yards per punt average) and handled all of the kickoff duties (39 touchbacks on 157 punts) in the last two seasons (2006 and 2007)

* And his final game as a Nole, Gano punted five times versus Wisconsin and put four inside the 20 yard line. His first three punts of the game in the first quarter all landed inside the three yard line.

The reason he was dropped by the Ravens is because they said his kick trajectory angle was too low and that his kicks would be batted down at the line of scrimmage.

I would definitely say he is an upgrade over SUISHAM.

Gano went 13/16 in the UFL with a long of 53

Suisham is 18/21 long of 48

both are have made 20 xp's .. gano out of 20 attempts, suisham out of 21 (I think that the one was blocked)

Gano also has punted twice this year avg'ing 42.5/punt

just some stats

Yea but he also made a 33 yard field goal to win UFL's Championship game in overtime. So he can come through in the clutch.

Re: Better kickers available?

Obviously people think that those of us who want to cut Suish are just having a shock reaction to him missing a 23 yarder. But we've had him for 3 seasons now and he keeps proving time and time again that he can't make it when it matters. Remember the shank he had in our playoff game against Seattle? Remember all the other shanks he's had with some amount of pressure on him? Remember the Dallas game two weeks ago? This wasn't a one time occurence, I knew if anybody could miss a 23 yard field goal with the game on the line that it would be Suish, and he proved me right. I don't care if we keep him for the rest of the season but he needs to be cut after the season is over.

Re: Better kickers available?

It absolutely hilarious we are bringing in kickers. Szab this morning said it best driving into work, very typical knee jerk reaction by the FO and most likely initiated by the owner. As die hard fans we call for the kickers head after a couple bad games and look to him to put this Saints loss squarely on him...when we had Landry give up 14 pts, Moore lose a fumble that went the other way, and a coach/bingo caller who is 3-8 this season run it 3 straight time in the 10 yard line when JC is playing his best game of the season and could put the game away...but Snyder who people state shouldnt listen to the fans is acting exactly like a fan and is going to cut a kicker (who sux dont get me wrong) but is our best option at this point in the season.....its really hilarious, still doesnt beat the knee jerk 2nd round pick for Taylor

MTK 12-08-2009 09:05 AM

Re: Better kickers available?

I can't call bringing in kickers "kneejerk" when guys like Dungy have gone on record saying the would have cut Suisham right after the game.

I don't think Suisham will get cut, this is a wake up call more than anything. We've done this to him before and he's responded.

Re: Better kickers available?

I said yes even though I can't blame two losses on him. Suish was a bandage for us a few years ago. He's not the greates kicker out there and most likely won't be. He's servicable. I, like everyone else, would love to have a great kicker here who can kick 50 plus yarders with no problem. Speaking of, I thought I saw a 50 plus kick last weekend from one of the college kids? was it the kid from Alabama? Playing Pitt? Anyway.
