Well this may sound crazy but...we can't seem to run between the tackles....and I don't think any of our backs has the speed to get around the edge quick enough to make any positive plays. I think and hope that this can help our offense a bit. And once again, I may sound crazy, but I don't mind the team taking its time to sign an o-lineman...I mean we all know what happened with knee-jerk reactions (i.e. Duckett and Jason Taylor). Furthermore, with this o-line business, I can't believe some people are not practicing what they preach (build through the draft, blah blah blah!). |

Ever pay attention to moves around the league? Guys go on IR and teams don't always sign the same position to replace them. |
Re: Welcome back Anthony Alridge.........
Good call AMD!
Interesting move. Didn't really make sense to bring in another lineman because they would just sit on the bench. At least with Alridge he can play teams. I suppose it's likely that Mason will return to the inactive roster for now. Though Rock can't feel too good, especially after he was just told that moving forward he will be sharing kick return responsibilities with Devin Thomas. But the most interesting part of this move...which head coach is on the hot seat?....and who is a rumored former head coach to replace him?....and which former head coach rumored to replace current head coach on the hot seat highly recommended Anthony Alridge to the Redskins? Just saying |

Injury prone perhaps (Samuels, Rinehart) but it's definitely a younger line. |

Re: Welcome back Anthony Alridge.........
I feel like AA brings something that we did not have before, a true change of pace back. I dont agree with signing an aging replacement in Kendall. Rinehart and both Williams' have been inactive on Sundays, it makes sense to plug one of them into the opening. Rinehart makes sense, its a guy that we drafted, and have groomed for this occurence. If we did sign another lineman at this point, he would only be sitting the bench anyways. If there was someone out there that would start in front of Rinehart/Williams/Williams he would be here already.
But....no way do we need 5 running backs, there has gotta be a trade in the works. |

Yes but bringing aging replacements for the line is how you end up with one of the oldest line in the league (which I think we were in the past). Once again, putting Rinehart in is building through the draft, we drafted him, developed him, and now he needs to be tested in real game situations. |
Re: Welcome back Anthony Alridge.........
Why sign a O-Lineman if there are no O-lineman out there better than what we have on our roster. I think if there was a O-Lineman out worthy to help us we would bring him in. Quality O-lineman don't just sit around 32 teams would be signing them in a heart beat. We signed Alridge because he brings speed to the RB positon.
Don't get me wrong I'm all for bringing back Alridge. I'm all smiles now. Prior to season I felt we should have kept Mason and Alridge and let one of the older RB's go. Obviously it wouldn't be Portis cause he was our #1. In regards to your comment about O-lineman, I have been asking since Sun. who is out their that we could bring in only cause back in Feb. it sounded like the team (Buges) was not impressed with Rineharts technique or blocking. I still find it funny that a week after the comment was made they could not say enough about him. What changed? I'm all for using our draft picks. I'm excited they are and hope he works out. Then we have MW Tackle/Guard as back up or spot fill in to give guys a break and the Rookie Ed Williams from Maryland who can play Center/Guard, but if one more gets injured then we will be in panick mode to get someone in and trained. That my only point. Why can't we bring in some one from another teams practice squad who is a Rookie to train? It's not like we have to look at people who are not on a team only. |
Re: Welcome back Anthony Alridge.........
this guy can't be trusted to hang on to the ball. i mean he had the ball in the wrong arm when he fumbled the kick off return in pre season. it's certainly correctable but god that's football 101.

As I just pointed out why can't we look at other teams Practice Squads and pull from their O-lineman Rookie class. Our's was picked last yr right. Mason was pulled off our PS and put on Baltimore's PS. I'm sure we could let someone go off the PS and fill it with a Rookie O-lineman from someone elses PS, or cut Betts/Rock and pick one up, or trade Betts/Rock for someone elses #2 or #3 O-lineman who needs a RB. Hello Dallas, Chargers, ....anyone else? |
Re: Welcome back Anthony Alridge.........
I love this move, but it's meaningless unless they are actually going to carve out a spot in the offense for him.

I think you need to revisit the play. Alridge was moving the ball from his arm closer to the tackler to the arm away from the tackler. During the process he was hit by the helmit (1 in a million hit) and the ball popped loose. It wasn't like he was running up the field next to the sideline and decided out of the blue to change arms. Alridge had just decided which way to run and after turning started to move the ball and got hit. He probably could have covered the ball with both arms and simply taken the hit and been tackled but he was trying to make a play. In order to stiff arm the defender he had to move the ball. I call Fluke. but since you are so concerned about fumbling....what are you going to do with JC? I presume with your way of thinking we should cut him cause he left the ball hanging out there for the defenseman to swat at and take to the house. That's go to be epic failure.....right? What do we do the next time Portis fumbles? cut him too? As someone stated earlier, fumbles happen. Thank god Alridge only did it during preseason when the games don't count. He learned a lesson. Hope he controls the ball better and move on. We need the speed and no one else is available that has his speed and knows our offense. |

They didnt just start praising Rinehart, they have been talking about him since OTA's. "He is much improved over last season" & "When he played with the starters he raised his level of play", I remember hearing both. Going forward we still have W.Montgomery(C/G), Edwin Williams(C/G), D'anthony Batiste(T), and Mike Williams(G/T) so even with another injury, we dont just bring in somebody off the street. Granted there is no O-line on the practice squad, but we do still have people to plug in. We kept the extra O-lineman so this just evens things out. Problem is......NOBODY keeps 5 RB's on the active roster! |
Re: Welcome back Anthony Alridge.........
I would add, that we already went and got another body earlier - Robinson, who is now on our practice squad. So we do still have a rotation available if another injury strikes. But lets face it, alot of the Giant's success stems from the fact that they have not faced injuries along the OLine.

Furthermore...Alridge was just on the Texans' roster. And which former head coach rumored to be a candidate to replace current head coach's ex offensive coordinator is the head coach of the Texans, and whose son is the current offensive coordinator of the Texans? (still think Shanahan ends up in Dallas personally) |
Re: Welcome back Anthony Alridge.........
There were several good points made in this thread that I support.
1. I'm happy to have AA back. I think we need someone with exceptional speed who can attack the edge and maybe hit a home run or two. The coaches and the FO may have taken advantage of a rare opportunity to correct a mistake they made when they cut him. 2. As Ruhskins said, I would rather that the FO made the best moves they can under the circumstances rather than to just rush out and pick up an OL. Haven't we criticized them in the past for making panic moves? It seems to me that there is some learning going on here. We don't know what they're working on. They might be working on a deal to move a RB for a draft pick or something. 3. As skins89moss pointed out, he can't help us unless Zorn uses his talents in games. I too have been disappointed in the failure of the Redskins to use all of their weapons. |

At this point though it would make zero sense to sign him and have him inactive. As people have already pointed out, at least Aldridge can come in and contribute on teams. |
Re: Welcome back Anthony Alridge.........
Now we can dump Mason. ;)
And just to add, just because you put a OL on IR that doesn't mean you have to replace that roster spot with a OL. Bashing on Vinny for this is just dumb.
I tend to agree with you. They tried Mason out a few times...as a change of pace back. But as some of you have pointed out in preseacon...he is not much different than Betts. I think a couple games have pointed this out. It's kinda a blessing to have the opportunity to get alridge due to a mis-call by the front office...you certainly can't blame them for taking the safer player and hoping he was a change of pace back. |

I don't think he'll give Zorn the season if he doesn't succeed during the 'weak' portion of our schedule. Sorry for going completely off topic. Alridge is someone I wanted to see much more of on the offseason because the Redskins have lacked that explosive potential for years. I think by the Carolina game he's at least the #3 back, if not the backup. Mason's probably going to be inactive for the rest of the season unless Betts gets hurt/traded or Rock gets hurt/traded. |

All good bro, Robinson is the one on PS, I missed him somehow as well. :) I really think we are covered on O-line, multiple injuries and that might change. I thought Montgomery did ok filling in, but Rinehart would probably be better long term, then you have Montgomery ready to back up C/G. I dont see us running right much, that could be a very bad thing. |

BAD SIGNS
Exactly what I said in the "Zorn is not afraid of getting fired" thread just now. DS has to be embarrassed with the "boo's" on national tv. I would have atleast had a word with Zorn letting him know I was expecting the problems fixed by game 3. Zorn promised a fast moving high scoring offense and we have yet to see it. BAD SIGNS
I think Zorn may publicly have the support in the locker-room, it's clearly waning privately. All of the reports of the tone of the locker room, angry, frustrated, felt like a post loss, are indications that there are some players that are unhappy with what's going on with the team. A loss or struggles to the Lions and I can see some grumbles becoming roars. |
Re: Welcome back Anthony Alridge.........
Lost an offensive lineman and sign a RB to take the open roster spot?
Leaving only 9 offensive linemen on the 53-man roster. Most teams carry 11, I would be slightly concerned about depth and rotation. But then again maybe there is a larger plan in place we are not privy to. Have to assume they know what they are doing. |

Everyone at that point was talking about what would occur at the end of pre-season. and you were proven wrong. Now after an injury AA is brought back. If the Skins end up trading Betts/Cartwright or outright releasing them then you still were wrong in that past thread, because the team didn't keep him at the end of the post season. You will forever be wrong in that past thread. Now if you want to go forward, and talk about whether we should keep 3, 4, or 5 running backs on the 53 man roster, that would be a reasonable discussion. And if i understand the rules, we have to keep AA on our roster for the next 3 weeks at the minimum, so he won't be off anytime soon. |
