Nice to see he didnt have to wait long to join a new team. The Lions are a good fit and its cool because hes going home. Glad to see everything worked out.

Re: Jansen Released!

Wow. :(

He's been a staple at RT here for so long, I can't even remember who it was HE replaced. He is a class act & great guy. His character & leadership will be missed.

That being said, it was WAY overdue & I'm surprised that this didn't happen last year, but maybe the FO knew more about what they were doing then we originally thought. If Heyer got injured after we had released Jansen last year with little to no depth, that would have really hurt. I'm glad that we were graced with his presence on our OL for the past decade & I wish him all the blessings & fortune he is deserving of.

This does bode well for us, in the long run. Younger & hopefully more agile & talented OL means more protection for Campbell & better blocking for Portis. This, of course, means that Samuels better stay on his toes...and off his heels.

Going back a while, how old are you son, lol.....Ed Simmons was on the way out around 97 or so, wasn't Shar Pourdanesh....Norvell's guy at RT in 98 before JJ?

That was the same time we had just acquired Dana Stubblefield, and we also had Big Daddy Dan on the D-line. And GUS was wrecking the bus......or at least his head into the goal post!

Shar Pourdanesh...wow, that takes me back. :laughing- I am 35, pops. And glad that someone was keeping up with the RT position before me. :)

And Gus didn't run his head into the goal post, it was the padding on the cement wall in the endzone that he headbutt.

I had the pleasure of being at the ONLY playoff game that FedEx has held when Gus was the QB in Detroit & I remember signs all over the stadium reading "Hey Gus! Hit head here!" with a big target &/or bullseye on it...EVERYWHERE! From the endzone walls to the upper decks...just lined with them. It was hilarious. The very first play was a sack & we didn't sit down until after halftime. The place was going nuts!

The only game that I have been to that was better was 11.5.06. That is my favorite game with my favorite Redskins moment of all time. Of course, Sean Taylor was involved with that moment. Nothing like watching the Cowboys fans' faces turn so quickly like that...

I'm sorry, I got off topic. My bad. :silly:

Can't be forgiven so quickly! Try to stay on track next time.....heck your much older than me old timer, that was my mistake.....lol

I actually have a reason for my brain fart.....kinda, its like golf if I don't have a reason for a bad day at the course I'll find one or many.

I was at the game with 4 of my SKIN fiends! And we took 2 g girl foes along......that was the most boring game, was just hoping it would eventually end and us WIN SOMEHOW. BUT NO, not even with OT required and big Jeff at the helm due to lug nut jamming his neck into the wall, which by the way was the highlight of the game unfortunately. (7-7 Tie, just awful)
Zorn Explains

"Heyer has really improved himself," Zorn said. "He hasn't missed anything in our offseason program. He's trying to change his body style and the way he moves. I have seen some improvement. He's got a ways to go. That's why I wouldn't clearly name him the starter. He's working on his technique, his strength, his suddenness. Obviously, there's a lot to work on, but he's on his way."
Zorny loves that word, "suddenness."

Sad to see Jansen go as a man and a Redskin, but as a player... well, we all knew this was coming. I just didn't think it was going to be this year.

Re: Jansen Released!

Obviously this was overdue. I appreciate what Jansen gave the Redskins over the years but that last contract he signed was simply a terrible mistake. Best of luck to him and I am more happy that they are letting Zorn do his job.

Hopefully he will earn a starting spot when we face Detroit I can't wait to watch Carter, Orakpo, and or Phat Albert eat him alive.

Wow...I am gunna miss Jansen...I thought he was a classic Redskin...
I am really glad he had the opportunity to work with Gibbs and Bugel.
That is some solid company.

Best wishes Jon...we all thank you for kicking butt with 8 fingers.
You are a class act...with no attention requested....a Classic Redskin.
Not too surprised it happened, surprised it happened before August though. Gave a decade of great service to this franchise, but his best days were behind him. Better to cut too soon than too late, as the say

By the way, I've got the perfect next career move for him...replacing LaCanfora as WaPo's Redskins Insider!
SS, it's a moot point now that JJ has signed with the lowly lions, but I thought the same thing early on after JJ's release. But then, the WaPo would have to rename RI to Redskins Inside the Lines.

Re: Jansen Released!

I appreciated his tenure with the Redskins. It probably is his time to move on; but it is with sadness that I watch him leave. I remember feeling the same way when I heard that Jerry Smith and Art Monk had been released. I wish Jon and his family the very best.

Re: Jansen Released!

I like Jansen alot and was shocked to see that he was let go only because I thought he had a high CAP hit. Since his last two injuries he has not been the same Jansen. No lateral movement, meaning his pass protection sucked. I was kinda hoping they would move him inboard perhaps to Center. I guess they looked at the films from last yr, film if they had any from OTA's a month ago and decided they have others who will do a better job.

The word keeps coming out of Redskins park that the position is Heyers to lose. I think Williams is going to push Heyer. Depending on Thomas's injury recovery Bridges may push him.

Also maybe they like what they see in the Marylander to back up Rahbach or last yrs draft pick they blasted in off season only to now say he looks great? Go figure.

Re: Jansen Released!

Bottom Line: Jansen's release was a shocker no doubt, but I think people knew it was coming sooner rather than later.

Re: Jansen Released!

Jon Jansen was a outstanding Redskin during his 10 year career with the Redskins. All good things most come to a end but we will remember Jon for his toughness and leadership. I wish we could have had more success while Jon was leading the way for such RB like Stephen Davis, Skip Hicks, Trung Canidate, Rock , Ladell and C.P. Well Jon still has a chance to continue playing for the Lions. If he isn't a starter than he should just retire will he is still healthy and get into the sports booth. God Bless you and your family.

10 years sure goes by quick huh?

Seems just like yesterday Jansen was drafted and plugged into the starting lineup and he never looked back. I remember some of those early battles with Strahan where he just straight up owned him and made a name for himself.

At first I thought the title was a hoax. Wow. I guess I just expected to look up one day and there's Jansen standing next to CP on the sidelines in street clothes holding a clip board.

Two words discribe this guy - class act.

He was an over paid starter who should have been on the bench the past couple of years. Good thing he signed with the Lions because he is not very good on TV either. I'm sure in a cuple of years he will open up a car lot.

Re: Jansen Released!
Well this is bittersweet for sure. I didnt think Jansen had anything left after he snapped his ankle against Miami in 2007, and even before that he seemed to really struggle. Those two major injuries in 04 and 07 really shortened his career in my opinon... this had to be done, he's just not that good anymore in my opinion.

However, I absolutley say thank you to Jon Jansen for his years of service with the Skins'. He was tougher than nails, did a heck of a job and I had the chance to meet him twice and was a real good guy as well. It's also sad to see one, or if I'm not mistaken THE longest tenured Redskin go. I hope he gets a shot somewhere and if he makes good on it, I honestly hope the guy does well... but I really think he's done. !
Agreed...and well stated.

Re: Jansen Released!

I was wondering if they had their eye on someone to bring in when they cut Jansen, but as for RT we have Heyer, Williams which should be all we need. Williams has played LT also so he can rotate if he has too. Then we have Bridges in case he has to take over at RT. We have Bridges and is it Rob Johnson? They slammed him at the begining of the off season then seemed to warm to him.

Who else would be out there O-line wise that would be worth a try? or are they expecting someone to be cut from another team that they like?

Levi jones is still out there but he's still available for a reason (Injury prone). Who is Rob Johnson?

I'm probably using the wrong name. I thinking of the guy we picked up last yr. The O-lineman that Buges said had a long way to go cause he had bad technique then closer to draft day they started riding his jock saying he'll be a decent lineman.

My bad Rob Jackson is a DE. I'm thinking of Chad Rinehart.

Re: Jansen Released!

Jansen was a hard working, class act. Injury prone as he was, he was an asset to our locker room, and to our depth chart. He will be missed, but business is business. Offering him retirement was one the the classiest things this franchise has done in the past decade. Its a shame, he will be missed, and because of his injuries he will be out of football within three years. At least now he is home in Michigan where he can buy a nice house for his family and settle down after retirement. Hopefully, he will be a member of our roster again someday, maybe for a one day retirement. As a Redskins fan, I welcome that.

I agree with McAllister, Alexander, and Bentley. All of the other ones imo are stupid. Even the Favre and Harrison ones I dont agree with. The DeAngelo Hall one is just flat out ignorant. This is coming from that bum Florio from PFT so it doesnt shock me hed come up with something this stupid.
