Re: Which Current NFL Receiver Is Best for Us?
One game?
WR is a need because guys like McCardell, Caldwell and Thrash are probably on the way out. So at the very least we need some depth. Outside of 2005 Moss has been disappointing and not a #1 caliber WR.
I haven't heard any rumors on Caldwell or McCardell, have you? Also, knowing we need depth, and IMO an upgrade, do you think we'll look at Keyshawn Johnson? He has said he would interested in all 32 teams regardless if they will go 1-15 or 15-1. |
Re: Which Current NFL Receiver Is Best for Us?
I picked hackett because of his connections with Zorn, but I wish there was an option of none. I really don't think we need a receiver just because Moss dropped a couple of ball in mainly just one game(GB). I think ARE, McCardell, Caldwell and Trash are fine. WCO isn't really really huge on receivers just more the QB right?
In your version of football, who does the QB throw to? Of course WR is a huge part of the West Coast Offense.. |

And we've got another thread going on Key
I haven't heard about his knees. What about McCardell? I thought he was a great pickup. Doesn't mean we can't talk about Keyshawn here, we are talking about which WR's to bring in. |
Re: Which Current NFL Receiver Is Best for Us?
I said Larry Fitzgerald...since most of these are dream situations anyway...I like everything about him....attitude, play, work ethic....I wanted him out of college. I really think Moss and ARE would work well out of the slot more. I could see Synder going after any of these guys really...or I could see us not getting anyone new and working with Espy and Mix...but the thing is with Zorn just coming in, he doesn't know those guys at all...and free agency is getting ready to start....so I say Snyder goes after someone.

I think he'll end up in Miami if anywhere As for KM, he's a free agent and not likely to be re-signed. |
Re: Which Current NFL Receiver Is Best for Us?
I if they get traded does the same release fee apply???
I am also curious as to how it works for those with a smaller release fee than salary...does that mean we get that many back towards the cap?
1) Yes 2) Yes, for example if Phillip Daniels was released there would be a charge of $ 770K, but his salary of $ 3.7M would come off the books. A net cap savings of about $ 3M. |

I think you're right, but something in his voice on ESPN earlier today made me think otherwise...especially when he said he'd be interested in all 32 teams. I know that was to try to make the blow to going to a 1-15 team easier for him mentally, but it just seemed like he'd be interested in other places. Hard to judge him right now. He likes Parcells for some reason, and he knows he will be the best WR in Miami if he goes there, but he could do really well elsewhere and not suffer through a horrendous season too. I for one would take another job for the chance of winning. Going through a 1-15 season would be torture.
As for KM, he's a free agent and not likely to be re-signed.
Is this because he is going to retire again, or we are not interested in him, or maybe other teams are interested in him? |

Not really sure what will happen with KM. As for Key, I think that the Dolphins are most likely to give him close to what he wants (money-wise)

LOL...they really are dumb. Here is one of the oldest teams in the NFL, shedding old players (see Zach Thomas) and now they want to sign an old wr? Like the guiness brothers say..."Brilliant!" |

Also if they want to defer the Release Fee over two seasons and help the cap a little more in 2008 they will wait until after June 1 to release Brunell. I wouldn't drop Daniels yet, depth on the DL is a major concern, Daniels is a veteran and understands Blache's system and can mentor the new young DLineman (from the draft hopefully). $ 3.7M is not a ridiculous cap number for a starting DLineman. Daniels is solid, he is not a liability. |

Thanks for your patience with helping me understand the cap more. I hope that is the case and not that we are wanting to keep Brunell. He has nothing over a rookie at this point IMO. I'd rather take a chance on a QB out of the draft than keep him around with that horrendous salary. About Daniels, I agree that 3.7 mil is not much for a dlineman, and his 2.0 mil cap number for 2009 is pretty easy to swallow too, but I do not agree he's solid. I thought he played poorly this year. DE is my #1 priority (again) this year with our first pick. So the question is, Is Daniels worth 3.7 mil as a back up? (although I understand the importance of waiting until the draft to be sure) |

Schneed and Canuck are really the experts at this stuff, if you search their posts you can usually find the answers to most cap questions. I agree with you on DE being our #1 priority in the draft. I like Calais Campbell or Merrling from Clemson with our 21st pick. If both are gone then we look to CB or DT. |
Re: Which Current NFL Receiver Is Best for Us?
Hackett for sure. A WR who will have an idea about the offense should help Jason.
|
Re: Which Current NFL Receiver Is Best for Us?
I wouldn't be opposed to Hackett.. Hasselbeck did pretty good with less than stud WR for years..
In a perfect world I'd like Fitzgerald, Ocho or Roy Williams.. |

Plaxico Burress of Marques Colston...

Re: Which Current NFL Receiver Is Best for Us?
So right now the front runners would be Chad Johnson, Roy Williams, Javon Walker, Bryant Johnson, DJ Hacket, Bernard Berrian, Earnest Wilford, Malcom Kelly, Limas Sweed, Jordy Nelson, and Devin Thomas.
Out of that group I'd like to take a shot at Roy Williams. He's the most proven, still in his prime, and we wouldn't have to give up a first and a third to get him. After that Javon Walker since he has WCO experience, Elite WR experience, and still might be in his prime. Plus he would only cost us the value of whatever we sign him for.
what has Williams proved? He's another so-so reciever that in our system will fall through the cracks |

WHAT? Have you even watched this guy play? He is a beast. How about 82 catches for 1310 yards? How about 28 tds in 55 career games for the freakin Lions? So-so is not Williams at all. At least not Roy E. Williams from the Lions. |

Re: Which Current NFL Receiver Is Best for Us?
I say we address this need in the later rounds of our draft with our 3rd pick.
Defensive line and corner first two picks. No need to bring in a big ego WR not enough balls to go around will not work IMO. Roy Williams? That big dog! Ocho? Too high priced for a spazz! No one else on that list worth discussing. |
Re: Which Current NFL Receiver Is Best for Us?
i'd give up our 2nd round and brandon lloyd for williams
Very funny...we'd have to ADD draft picks to trade lloyd away. |
Re: Which Current NFL Receiver Is Best for Us?
I voted Bryant Johnson, only because I think he is the best that the Redskins will be able to pick up without giving up the future. If there were no trade considerations, Roy Williams or Chad Johnson would be great pickups but I think Bryant Johnson will be a great addition to the Redskins wide receiver corps as well.

Re: Which Current NFL Receiver Is Best for Us?
I think they should take a run at Jerry Porter. The guy has been in a Hell Hole out in Oakland and has never got to show his potential. As long as whoever it is I hope we do not break the bank. Seems Dan is good at doing this.
|
Re: Which Current NFL Receiver Is Best for Us?
Add Donte Stallworth to the list.

I didn't put him in the poll because he got a lukewarm (at best) reaction when I brought him up a couple of weeks ago...and my feelings were hurt :( |

Ha ha, I didn't mean put him on the poll. We're to far into it to just add people. I just brought him up so someone wouldn't make a new tread on him. However to me he's a million dollars to expenisive and 2 inches to short. Sorry people gave you the Jim Fassel treatment for bringing up Donte Stallworth. |

RANDYYYYYYYYYYYYYY MOSSSSSSSSSS
the moss brothers will grow all over opposing defenses |

Re: Which Current NFL Receiver Is Best for Us?
Randy Moss would certainly open up alot other things for the offense but i'm sure he will resign with NE. I know money talks but would we get the Oakland Moss or the NE Moss if we were able to land him. Campbell does have a huge arm and could just chuck the ball up there. It would be sweet but i'm not getting my hopes up for this one. CJ seems like a slim possibility as well. I'm putting my money on Hackett since he alreay is connected to Zorn.
|
Re: Which Current NFL Receiver Is Best for Us?
I think Chad Johnson is by far the best receiver out of that group. But, it would cost a fortune to get him and we're already cap tight.
I know that i'm probably alone in thinking that we should stick with what we got. Maybe draft a project type receiver late in the draft. I really don't see a receiver as a neccesity. Here's why: 1) Moss had a down year both with injuries and drops but he is only 2 years removed from being a top 10 receiver 2) Despite injuries of his own Randle El had his best season 3) As Campbell improves so will the receivers; and Zorn should help in that process 4) We already have the type of receivers everyone says we should get on the roster right now: Mix, Espy, and the hated Llyod ( why not give Llyod a clean slate? he's already under contract) But if we do go after a free agent receiver how about inexpensive ones like: Ruvell Martin (Packers) who comes from a "west coast offense", Justin Gage (Titans) or Aaron Moorehead (Colts) |
Re: Which Current NFL Receiver Is Best for Us?
I'll take Williams, but I'd rather go with what we have.
|
Re: Which Current NFL Receiver Is Best for Us?
Im gonna say ochocinco, because he would be a huge help in our offense.
|
Re: Which Current NFL Receiver Is Best for Us?
Ocho Cinco is the best but the least likely to come here
|
Re: Which Current NFL Receiver Is Best for Us?
stallworth would definitely be worth signing. him moss and el would give us great speed and two good options. of course, getting them both on the field at the same time maybe be kinda hard (*cough* tin can *cough*), but at least 1 could always be available.
