Re: Can the redskins beat the lions without portis and moss
Moss and Portis or not, I think that the Skins will play with the same desperation that the Giants did in the 2nd half here. Losing a 2nd consecutive home NFC game could cause the season to unravel pretty quickly. Hopefully the players feel that and bring their A-game on Sunday. I want to see Landry and Taylor inflicting serious pain to any Lions receiver venturing over the middle.
Hogs.net. I cannot remember the name of the Post reporter. Basically, a blogger emailed that reporter asking if there was an update and then posted the reporter's response on the site. Moss was said to be out possibly beyond the Lions game. I don't think this should be a surprise to anyone. He gets hurt at least a couple times a season and usually heals slowly. But I'm also saying I don't think it should be that big a deal. Time of possession will be huge this Sunday, and w/ Thrash (in for Moss) getting open and consistently catching passes I think we can still have a real effective passing game to set up the run.
Yeah, GREAT source there. Here is what I found on Moss.
Despite reports Santana Moss (groin) could be out several weeks, coach Joe Gibbs says he doesn't "anticipate" being without the wideout in Week 5. Moss, who missed practice Monday, says he hopes to play against Detroit, but doesn't know for sure. Keep track of his practice load this week before using him. Indications are so far that Moss is less than 50-50 to suit up. Re: Can the redskins beat the lions without portis and moss
I am listening to The John Thompson Show on 980, and the only thing they are talking about now is why are there different versions of how and when CP's injury occured. I didn't know, or think, that Portis's injury was that bad. May be that was the reason after all.

Re: Can the redskins beat the lions without portis and moss
Portis is a guy who has a lot of wear and tear on him. Unfortunately he's going to struggle with injuries as long as he continues to play.
The real good thing is that he really hasn't appeared to have lost any effectiveness, so when he is taking carries, he's doing well with them. |
Re: Can the redskins beat the lions without portis and moss
It's not sounding good for Moss.

Re: Can the redskins beat the lions without portis and moss
I'd bet Moss will miss the next 2-3 games.
CP will probably see his workload reduced a bit but his sprain isn't that serious, it's just a matter of playing through the pain. |
Re: Can the redskins beat the lions without portis and moss
how is he still hurt after the bye week, we came out of the bye week more hurt than when we went in.....ridiculous

Re: Can the redskins beat the lions without portis and moss
with both we are going to have a hard time beating the lions. With out both its going to be really hard, I can live without Portis but we need moss. Wish we had a pass rush we sure are going to need one sunday,.

Re: Can the redskins beat the lions without portis and moss
Injuries with Portis and Moss is not the biggest issue concerning our team. If Fred Smoot isn't at least 90%, we are in for a long day because Rodgers and Springs cannot cover for 60 minutes. The 2nd half of the Giants game was an indication of a secondary that could not cover and close on 3rd downs. On the other hand, I am looking forward to seeing Reche Caldwell and Keenan McCardell. Both are good route runners and can create separation which seems non existent on 3rd downs. Overall, Betts needs to get the majority of the reps in order to establish a rythm and Cartwright and Sellers should help us with a victory.

Let's not forget Cooley. It's easy to forget him since most of the plays are centered around ARE and Moss down field. If Gibbs utilizes the players he has, Sellers, Cartwright,ARE and Yoder, we can move the ball as effectively as we did against Philadelphia. The problem has been focusing too much on our 1# and 2# and not getting everyone involved. Come on Gibbs lets get this train moving and stop tipping in neutral. |
Re: Can the redskins beat the lions without portis and moss
i think without a doubt we can win without portis or moss but without rethinking our offensive gameplan we might be outback on this one. I also believe the lions are set for a little bit of a letdown on their side of the ball. I think beating the "rexless" bears might have been be a good for us. but our corners have their hands full with those big wideouts they have.

Re: Can the redskins beat the lions without portis and moss
I still have a really bad feeling about this one. Hopefully we pull it out but I wouldn't be surprised either way.
When is the last time the Skins scored 40+ points?
I agree! To be realistic these days a great day would be 28 points scored! and a solid victory would be by only 10 points...don't remember the last game we dominated and won by more than 14 points. This is the new reality of where we are...It does not mean we don't play well! |
Re: Can the redskins beat the lions without portis and moss
would love to talk about Cooley but since were unfortually using him a blocker on DE like strahand. Since every team but us has burn the giants with a TE but us. Heaven forbid we use him in the passing game.

You really have got to tip your hat to the G-men for that win. I really think the Giants out played and out coached us that game... It was a very tragic second half. I was just talking to my friend (Giants fan) and he wouldn't shut up about how much Jason Campbell scares him. I think a lot of us point to his lack of execution in the short game, but for some unknown reason I think he'll over come it. The guy works to f'n hard to not keep improving. Sorry, went off on a tangent there. Ultimately, I believe Al Saunders won't keep Cooley in anymore. He's had two weeks to figure out how to utilize his players, and I'd expect CC to break out on finally, especially with Moss hurt. |
Re: Can the redskins beat the lions without portis and moss
Whoa, calm down guys....we aren't hurt even if they don't play. I'm happy with the way Betts, and ARE are doing so far, they'll just have to kick it up a notch. It's not like we've been blowing people out this year. It will be ugly, but we will pull it off. 17-14 us. I would rather see Moss play through his injury that Clinton. Not that they are a different caliber player, but the knee thing worries me in the long run.
|
Re: Can the redskins beat the lions without portis and moss
I don't think Moss will be that big of a deal, but Clinton could be huge. I'm not very pleased with Ladell's running so far.

Looks like CP name can come down on the thread title....HE'S READY TO ROLL, RIGHT OVER detroit!

Re: Can the redskins beat the lions without portis and moss
UPDATES:
Santana did sprints on Thursday at practice, but did not catch balls. Unlikely to play but not officially ruled out. Also, Brandon Lloyd may miss the game this week because he was kicked in the shin during Wednesday's practice. Good job, Keenan! Helping the team already! :) McCardell and Caldwell will both be active for the Week 5 game. |
Re: Can the redskins beat the lions without portis and moss
I'm confident that Randel El, McCardell and Caldwell can be very effective.
