Re: Jets interested in Betts?
while we are on the subject of the 2007 draft, i was wondering who would you guys say we pick up, personally id like to see a good offensive lineman like a joe thomas which isn't likely but then i'd also say corner is another rather large concern soo maybe a guy like antonie cason solid corner, but it seems there isint much picking for corners and a rather large selection of reciever too bad we look pretty good there.

Re: Jets interested in Betts?
I didn't know we were on the subject of the 2007 draft. And if we are, I would recommend we change the subject because the 2007 draft is a long way away.

Re: Jets interested in Betts?

um....ok. whatever makes you happy |
Re: Jets interested in Betts?
maybe paul posluszny, Penn state or tim crowder, Texas or Leon hall, michigan or xavier adibi, va. tech.
i dont think that they would draft an offensive player in the first round because i think there pretty good rght now, but ya never know |
Re: Jets interested in Betts?
put the bong down
|
Re: Jets interested in Betts?
From what I understand, the woman in the picture is their best offensive lineman. She can take out their best defensive player singlehanded, and although she has slow feet (as evidenced by the fact that she ends each play on the ground) the defensive player never seems to make the play.
|
Re: Jets interested in Betts?
tafkas, you doing that bong again?( im not sure where that came from?)
|
Re: Jets interested in Betts?
i can't see gibbs letting betts go because he is just like joe washington/earnest byner/ricky ervins.now if they want to trade cartwright,i could see that!
|
Re: Jets interested in Betts?
I say let Rock go because he seems to get tackled easily by one person most of the time. But, Rock does seem to be a Gibbs' kind of guy.
|
Re: Jets interested in Betts?
they won't let him go because he is awsome on special teams and works really hard
|
Re: Jets interested in Betts?
Why are'nt the Jets thinking Deuce Mcallister? No way he is a Saint next season.
|
Re: Jets interested in Betts?
Just wondering if anyone still thinks we should trade Ladell Betts?

Heck no! He's such a hard worker. Al Saunders said he's the next Preist Holmes and Mr. Gibbs LOVES him. He's such a great runner, especially in the red zone. In fact, I think he runs harder than Portis. And the coaches should start him over Portis because he doesn't talk bad about Mr. Gibbs. /end Warpath Speak |
Re: Jets interested in Betts?
I like Betts a lot. A first and a third will suffice.

Maybe for a top tier corner back and a second round pick |
Re: Jets interested in Betts?
if portis nees a reliable backup that is a powerhouse, why not sign stephen davis for this year?he has proven he can get the tough yards, and his worst problem has been his fumblitis the last few years in carolina.saunders had two great rbs in kc in johnson/holmes,and betts is good he is nowhere near the same level as a back as SD is!

before no, now with Springs ailing, yes i agree. for a top corner, yeah i think we could live without Betts until we drafted some new blood. Jets have any great corners? |
Re: Jets interested in Betts?
Well he's not great but clearly the Jets don't intend on keeping DB Derrick Strait. They just tried sending him to Cleveland for Lee Suggs
|
Re: Jets interested in Betts?
he any good? how old? what string?
anything less than no.2 and i'd ask the Jets for a backup lineman too |
Re: Jets interested in Betts?
Betts ain't going anywhere right now!

today's wash. post reported that talks have begun about an extension: washingtonpost.com Extension for Betts? Veteran running back Ladell Betts, who returned to practice from a hamstring injury yesterday, confirmed that preliminary discussions with the Redskins about a contract extension are under way. Betts, the primary backup for injured franchise running back Clinton Portis, is eligible for free agency in the offseason, and, despite believing he has the skills to be a starter in the NFL, is happy in Washington. "I'm definitely open to staying here," said Betts, a second-round pick in 2002. "The Redskins were the first team to give me an opportunity to play NFL football, so I'm definitely willing to listen." Betts recently switched agents, signing with Tony Agnone, and Coach Joe Gibbs said there has been some contact between Agnone and director of football administration Eric Schaffer. "We like Ladell," Gibbs said. "We always want to sign all of our good football players." |
Re: Jets interested in Betts?
Wouldn't suprise me if they something done before the season starts
|
Re: Jets interested in Betts?
It would be great to lock up Betts for a few more years.
I think Betts is a much better option than Davis is now. While a healthy Stephen Davis is a stellar RB, he hasn't been healthy in years, and there's no reason to think he;s found the fountain of youth. And the fact that he was less than kind to the team after his departure, and I'll pass on a minimum salary deal. |
Re: Jets interested in Betts?
Davis is way past being done.

I'd be willing to bet that he'll be gone after this season, unless Washington offers him the farm. When a player makes a comment like, "I think I could start in the league, but I'll consider their offer" it's usually the kiss of death. And firing an agent isn't really a sign of "I'm happy where I'm at". If another team offer's him a starting job, he's a goner unless Washington gives him a boat load of cash. |

Not sure Ladell has had the type of career that warrants a boat load of cash. If we're talking TJ Duckett (ATL), maybe. I've said it before, it's just my opinion, Ladell could start in this league but I think he's more of 1,000 to 1100 yd type of back. He won't fetch Clinton Portis type money in any event. |

That deal was struck a few years ago, and the cap has gone up since then, so I'd figure an offer of $3 million for 3 years would make a lot of sense to start discussions. I don't think there's any way Betts would take that, because I think other teams are a lot more aware of his skills than they were of Lemar Marshall. In the end if I were the Skins, I'd agree to give Betts $9 million over 4 years, and that would probably be fair value. If he's asking for $5 million per season or something, then let him go. RBs can be replaced. |
