Re: Commanders 2024 Free Agency Thread
I think the expanded cap hurts us more than helps us. It allows the teams that were in the negatives more ease to maneuver around and bid on one or two FA's, making the bidding process more expensive overall. Whereas for the teams that had a lot of cap space, the increase likely only covers one big cap hit signing.

Re: Commanders 2024 Free Agency Thread
I don't feel hurt by a few extra million. :)
I see what you're saying though...but honestly there are a handful of players who get overpaid each year - resetting the market. Maybe we'll do that, maybe we won't, but this organization should no longer be a destination players avoid. Sure, there are many teams currently better poised than this one for sure, but I think this will be a different vibe in free agency than in the past. No overpaying for washed up FAs, no settling for the bottom of the barrel...just a normal free agency period where we address some needs prior to the draft with quality talent. It's exciting. |
Re: Commanders 2024 Free Agency Thread
I can't believe new ownership and GM is getting to walk into all of these picks and money.
I mean if we have a good offseason, we could easily be a playoff contender. Not saying we're winning the super bowl or anything, but getting into the dance is not impossible. |

PLAYOFFS?! Chief uses the word "normal" in reference to our team and the next thing you do is post a comment about our making the playoffs. Man, we are a pathetic lot grasping for any shred of flotsam to keep our hopes alive. On second thought, are we normal now? Seriously, we might be normal. Hey, we can hold our heads up now because we might be normal. Playoffs! |

And a normal functioning franchise is definitely a massive fucking improvement over the last 30 years. |

Re: Commanders 2024 Free Agency Thread
So IF the Bears are going to trade Fields, can they do so before free agency starts? Just wondering about their timeline there since he would definitely be in the mix of free agent QBs for teams trying to get one.

Re: Commanders 2024 Free Agency Thread
We traded for Alex Smith in January before free agency started...I think maybe it's not "official" until then, but I'm not quite sure.

Zach Ertz signing with Commanders on one-year deal as Washington adds former Pro Bowl TE before free agency

Re: Commanders 2024 Free Agency Thread
Up to $5m for one year, hopefully heavily incentive laden. Was thinking about something I heard the other day and it may well be true, it will take a couple of years before top free agents with options will want to come to Washington. I think Adam Peters and co will hold of from committing large amounts beyond this year to keep that cap space in hand for better FA in following years. years
