Re: Laron Landry - Redskin for life?
From what I have heard - - not from Landry or his agent nor from Bruce Allen - - Landry is aiming for $35M guaranteed in his next deal.
Let me ASSUME that is the right number. If that is what it will take to sign him, I would show him the door and thank him for his services to the Redskins up until that moment. LaRon Landry is a one-trick pony. Someone here said his coverage skills are improving; I have to admit that I do not see that improvement. Unless his coverage skills improve by 100% between now and New Years Day, he is never going to be more than an average safety in the NFL who makes a lot of highlight reel hits. |

He's the no. 2 safety on the market right now after Oakland's Tyvon Branch. The second largest contract to a safety this past year was given to Michael Huff, who got $16 million guaranteed. It's probably going to cost more than $10 million in guaranteed money to resign Landry, but I don't think he's getting anywhere close to $36 million. Probably not even in total money. |
Re: Laron Landry - Redskin for life?
Yep, we drop Landry and add another big hole on this defense. We could always just make Reed Doughty full time starter for cheaper right? lol

Actually I think Gomes would take over the position, not Doughty. I'm actually not sure whether if we should give him the big contract that he is "supposedly" seeking for. Like everyone says, Landry sucks with coverage but he makes our defense fearsome and win us some games (sometimes). If I was Allen, I would give him a contract where he can make some big money based on incentives. |

Landry doesnt play a lot. He already is a hole on the defense. Lets fill the hole. We can do better. |
Re: Laron Landry - Redskin for life?
Landry is frustrating no doubt about it .. but i'm surprised how quickly Redskins Nation has turned on this guy .. are you kidding me ? Are we rebuilding me...yes...does that mean letting your STARTING Safety go that is about to be in his prime ? Hell yeah he's been injury prone and he trash talks way to much but I think due to all the crappy play this season and last we are forgetting this dude is a beast and would be STUPID to let go. No way they don't re-sign him. OJ & Landry are one the few places we actually should be locked up for awhile .. Cut the dude some slack on injuries .. oh BTW we have plenty of cap space and $$$ to re-sign our quality players.

Re: Laron Landry - Redskin for life?
statements like this are what kill me about a lot of redskins fans. the nfl is not fantasy football, you can't just grab some guy and plug him in and think he will fit. we have tried it and failed many times and now the eagles are doing the same. i think landry needs to have surgery and get healthy and remain a redskin. if he is playing football he needs to be on this team, we don't have the ability to add another need to the list.
i agree though that the price does have to be right but hopefully allen can make that happen, that is his job afterall. and hopefully this can be the way the new redskins operate, make players we draft want to stay here and keep them here. if there is one common theme amongst the top teams in the league, player retention has to be up there.
I never said that the National Football League was fantasy football. I just wouldn't be surprised if Landry isn't re-signed. Allen and Shanahan could very well re-sign him, but I'm sure they're looking at the alternatives as well. There's very good safeties coming out of college that would fit in Haslet's scheme, most notably Baccari Rambo of Georgia. All I'm saying that in five seasons so far, LaRon Landry hasn't played like a 6th overall pick should play. |
Re: Laron Landry - Redskin for life?
I think the front office and coaches will watch LaRon's final games to see how he plays with this achilles injury. This will determine if we value his services for the future. LaRon is a impact player that offenses must prepare for when he is on the field. I think Haslet has learned how to use LaRon more effective over the past 2 seasons. I think if he injury will not be a long term problem we need to bring him back.

Re: Laron Landry - Redskin for life?
Yeah, Carlos Rogers sucks. He is the worst CB and we should just let him walk.....
Oh, this is the bash Landry thread. I shouldn't of drank all of that cough syrup. We 'upgraded' by getting rid of last years fall guy Carlos Rogers and replaced him with someone worse than Rogers. NOw Rogers is having a good year in SF and we are stuck with shit. Now the impatient lynch mob now has their sights on Landry. Part of a losing team and losing culture is when things go bad everyone turns on each other. No loyalty. Looks like Snyder has changed and is no longer an impatient child. Some of the fans have yet to change. Building a winning team takes time. |

I don't think you pay a safety $36+mill for a couple highlight reel hits and a bunch of whiffing. and I ALWAYS wanted to keep rogers, cause he was the best CB available, and failing that, I wanted to grab richard marshall. I wasn't sold on josh wilson, and he truly has been the definition of meh play at CB. |
Re: Laron Landry - Redskin for life?
Carlos Rogers refused to agree to a reasonable deal and got his panties all wet that we didn't give him a sympathy contract. Overpaying for players is overpaying for players, regardless of whether that player was one of your own or not.
Bad example. Looks to me he is earning the money he got. |
Re: Laron Landry - Redskin for life?
If I'm correct but wasn't Brian Mitchell gone before Danny took over?

Re: Laron Landry - Redskin for life?
The fact is MS/ BA have already gone against the grain.
One quote in particular, infuriates me: "Do they go against the grain of their recent history, re-signing important players cultivated by the franchise and taking care of their own?" MS/BA recent history: Not over pay for players Remove bad contracts off the books Keep true redskins like Santanna Moss Trade down in the draft, aquire more picks and young talent Promptly remove bad pickup off their rosters while still aquiring picks or talent I hope they do continue to what's in the best interest of this Franchise. The fact of the matter is Landry is a Restricted Free Agent, all the skins have to do is put out an offer sheet .If he goes elsewhere, we get draft picks This article is stupid. |
Re: Laron Landry - Redskin for life?
Honestly, I don't mean to sound too critical, but what has Landry done even when he was healthy this season. Let's take a look at his stats heading into week 11 against Seattle, shall we?
At this juncture, Landry only has 44 tackles, one forced fumble, 0.5 sacks, and no interceptions. Are these numbers really deserving of a player that is not only injury prone, misses games due to injury, and has missed 11 or 12 games dating back to last season seeking a new multi year deal? I say let him walk and draft a safety or make a trade for one in 2012. |
