Cam Jordan appears to be a solid, high-character, good work ethic player. There are no sure things, of course, but one reason why I've beaten his drum is that he seems like one of the safer picks.

Put differently: good defenses begin up front. However, our defense is weakest up front and not just at NT. From this, the math seems simple: use the 10 pick up front.
Still if you're going to use a top 10 pick on a 3-4 defensive end you have to be thinking that the player you pick will be on the same level as Richard Seymour in his prime. Either would be a safe pick but I feel like we already have good depth at defensive end and neither player represents that much of an upgrade to pass up on an upgrade elsewhere, like OLB, NT, or QB.

Also if we really wanted to go DE we could easily wait for the second round and get a Cameron Heyward or Allen Bailey. Maybe even have a player like Adrian Clayborne fall to us. I think all three are comparable to Jordan and Watt.

I agree lotus on Jordan but sometimes character is overrated when you need talent like we do.

^^ Dirtbag and Okie, I agree with your posted statements, except that I think that Cam Jordan is a future Pro Bowler. Wouldn't you want to draft a Pro Bowl DE at #10?

Re: Robert Quinn: Boom or Bust?

^ heck yes I would but would you take him over a Quinn or Miller who can become a dominate pass rusher along side 98? Either way we are in a great spot at 10

If we don't take Quinn at 10 and move down to pick up additional picks, one name I'm starting to hear a bit (and keep in mind we're now in full smokescreen mode, so who knows what to really believe) is Corey Liuget

I agree about the good spot.

Don't forget that Jordan is a capable pass rusher and therefore can help to take the pressure off of Rak. We could also find pass rush specialist LB's later in the draft.

Yes, I personally would take Jordan over Quinn. Reports are that Quinn had a hard time doing linebacker drops at his pro day. He is more of a project than Jordan. Jordan already has excelled as a 3-4 DE.

Miller would be great but I don't see him there at #10.

Put differently, talent in front of our linebackers will make the LB's better, whoever they are. If our front three can't keep blockers off of the LB's, however, talent at LB is wasted. I think we need help most in our front three.

Where did you hear this? If this is true I don't want him anymore, and I want Cameron Jordan even more, since I've read that he can drop into coverage as a linebacker too.

I heard the same (in regards to linebacker drops) from Mayock and Lombardi on NFL network.

You guys also have to remember that DWare and Elvis Dummerville also had Red flags before the draft.. Those guys are great players, I think Quinn - Orakpo would be the start of a dominating defense IMO. Also we could probably trade down and get Jordan around 16 - 24 ish

So its Ponder or Locker in 2011 and then Cousins 2012?

SS you are working your own smokescreen early...hopefully it covering your true intention of wanting either California QB next year. They are the real deal.

Well I've been saying I think we need two new QBs for a while.

Re: Robert Quinn: Boom or Bust?

When I Hear about Quinn I always get deja vu! Wasn't it Orakpo who was a good prospect who could rush the passer...Quinn is the same. We will need to project Quinn to 3-4 OLB as a lot of the collage game does not use 3-4. I do remember the red flags as Orakpo had problems in OLB drills dropping back and covering. If Quinn turns out to be half of Orakpo he will be a decent pro. Anything more and we will have pass-rushing book ends that compare to the rest of the NFC east! I like Quinn.

But........we need players everywhere! So I will go with the pick or trade down and get a couple of this years best players and try them out!

Honestly I don't watch a lot of the college game, but I have caught up with a lot of the reports on all the players in the draft.
