no ss i am serious what is he a long term fix at? I never ask rhetorical questions.
At wide receiver. Actually, he could even return kicks and allow Betts to have a bigger role in the offense. Maybe he's no more than a 3, perhaps a 2 one day. But still, this is similar to the Golston/Montgomery situations. There's so much trepidation toward giving them a chance to develop, and show what they can do. We can't constantly complain about the Redskins not developing their own players and always going for the big name out in the market, and then turn around and protest when they try to develop their own guys-such as Golston, Montgomery, and Espy.

I mean, look at Keenan McCardell himself. With Monk, Green, and Sanders there was no room for that no-name here so he went elsewhere and his career took off. All he needed was the opportunity and he took full advantage. Now we should give Espy his opportunity.

While that is true, our main 3 recievers are all still in their prime (not to mention that cooley is there too) So i dont see him as anything other that a KR in which gibbs likes using runningbacks and i kind of liked cartwright back there and blaylock was the back up KR to hall in KC

Good points. Ultimately, I don't think we lose out either way. But my personal preference is keep Espy and focus on developing him. Especially considering that he'll be ok not playing much this year since he's young. Would McCardell be ok as the #4 guy? Was Patten? And I don't think we should change 1-3 (Moss, Lloyd, El)

Yeah I think it would be a useless move and it takes up another roster spot on a team stacked with WRs. This potential move reminds me of something like the Duckett signing. It is one of those where you just shake your head and wonder what the fuck are they doing.

Has Thrash lost so much speed? I read ran a 4.2 40 in college and remember he took the mantle of "fastest Redskin" off of #28's shoulders.

He has also been good coming back to the QB when he's under pressure and is usually very good at getting the yards for the first down.

He hasn't had that much playing time at wide receiver in the last few years and so it has been hard to judge his current capabilities. (Last year they couldn't because they had to play the "hot" free agents we had picked up.)

So before we ditch him I'd like to see what he can (still) do.

Re: WR McCardell considering return to NFL with Redskins, Texans

The thing about McCardell is that he would help Jason Campbell a lot. I think that the Redskins want a great veteran there who will make life easier for a young quarterback, giving him a solid possession-receiver option.

McCardell wouldn't come here to be any less than the number three receiver. After all, he could start in his home town of Houston as things stand.

Randle El hasn't really begun to show what he can do, and I think that he will be the number two receiver.

Lloyd, I think has a lot of talent, but right now I don't know if he fits into the plans given that Jason will likely have young quarterback challenges. We may well not be able to sign McCardell, but if we do, I think that Lloyd will drop down to number four on the depth chart.

I like the point about keeping Espy around to give him a chance to develop. If he isn't going to have much of a chance here anytime soon, it might be fairer to him to see if another team has more of an opportunity to give him. James Thrash is not going anywhere - he's a core Redskin. Special teams come first, and he's first on special teams. Not to mention a team leader and good receiver.

I say the more competition the better. Gibbs knows that if you wanna win it now you grab quality veterans when possible. McCardell would be a great addition to our WR Corps. I really hope we sign him. Always thought he was severely underrated.

Just what the skins need, an over-the-hill vet looking for a big payday. No thanks.

I say no. Just more money to take away from Cooley's potential contract.

Good point. I don't want to sign any FAs (with the exception of a valuable DE/DT) until Cooley gets a new contract.

I just don't see acquiring KM as much of a vault into the league's elite teams this year. What we have now is just as good as what we would have with him on our team.

Re: WR McCardell considering return to NFL with Redskins, Texans

At vets minimum, it's a question. At anything higher, it isn't.

Espy, while no sure thing to break out, is the only receiver with any likelihood to make the roster under 25. As much as I want to "win now", we can't jettison the future stability of the WR corps in order to improve ourselves at the #4 WR.

If McCardell could come in and play 80% of the snaps at #2, then he helps us next year in a manner that makes this palatable. But that also means that Randle-El and Lloyd are not on the field those times, which would be an abject failure.

Talking about WR's. I read that Lloyd cam into camp in very good shape and gaining around 20 pounds of mussel and weight. Was this true and is there any word of how he is looking in the mini camps?
