Re: Tell me about Derrick Dockery - new Buffalo Bill
I agree. He got awfully serious last year all of the sudden. If he had taken that approach the previous two seasons he might be worth the money they paid him.
Also, I agree that he is the 3rd best lineman. People are saying he's the worst of the 5 but I would rank them like this (just on 2006): 1. Samuels 2. Thomas 3. Dockery 4. Jansen 5. Rabach I'm eager to see more from Wade. I would be interested to see how you all rate them.
Good point on your ranking. I think most people here put Jansen above Dockery because they instinctively believe Jansen is a Grade A offensive linemen. In reality, his performance has slipped quite a bit over the past two years. |
Re: Tell me about Derrick Dockery - new Buffalo Bill
The truth is Dockery needs Coach Bugel to continue his development. I predict his technique will suffer next year but his intensity will increase due to his desire to prove himself worthy of his contract. Then after that he'll probably regres.

I still put jansen over Dock... I put Jansen over Samuels... The whole left side of our line is the weakest and Thomas and Jansen get all the flack while Dock gets 7 mil/yr and Samuels goes to the pro bowl??? WTF??? |
Re: Tell me about Derrick Dockery - new Buffalo Bill
Jansen is easily a better lineman than Dockery.
Here's how Scouts Inc. ranks our offensive line: Samuels 85 (outstanding player) Jansen 77 (solid starter) Thomas 74 (good starter) Rabach 72 (good starter) And Dockery ranks 65 (adequate starter) |
Re: Tell me about Derrick Dockery - new Buffalo Bill
I think really the only advantage that Dock has over Jansen is potential upside at this point in their respective careers.
On a somewhat unrelated note, with all these moves the Bills made how is Ralph Wilson's argument about revenue sharing and the haves (Snyder) messing with the have-nots (Wilson) coming along? |

Re: Tell me about Derrick Dockery - new Buffalo Bill
All you need to know is that if we had signed him to that contract everyone even remotely associated with the league would have blasted us. He maybe sneaks into the top 1/3 of guards but just barely. He struggles to pull and is only an average pass blocker. For what was paid the Bills are getting very little value. Very little. I imagine he is your highest paid O-lineman and I would guess he'll end up being your 2nd best guard really. At any other position we would have been scrambling to replace him this year because he wasn't good enough. At guard his overall lack of dominance was just not a big deal to us because guard is not overtly important. The guy just needs to be able to block someone. Which Dockery can.
Had we resigned him at a reasonable price him we would have exalted his youth and constant improvement. He is surely a good run blocker and seems to progress every year. That's about the most positive I would think we'd be. I am stunned by his contract and not sorry even remotely that he is gone at that price. A good guy and congrats on the contract but don't let the door hit ya on the way out. |

Re: Tell me about Derrick Dockery - new Buffalo Bill
I agree with you FRPLG. I was just reading Peter King's new article, because I'm really bored and don't feel like doing any work, and he just sort of brushed aside the Dockery deal by saying something like "here's a slightly above average guard getting a huge contract because teams have money to burn."
If the teams were reversed and Danny Boy was paying a player of Dockery's talent level that kind of cash King would have gone nuts trying to explain how stupid Snyder is. We would have had to hear how the Skins are willing to pay an arm and a leg just to get mediocre players so that Danny can invite even more movie stars into his booth for games or some such BS. On a good note, he did seem to think that the 'boys overpaid for Davis. So that's nice. |
Re: Tell me about Derrick Dockery - new Buffalo Bill
Man let me tell ya.....that guy SUCKS! Thats why we got rid of his butt!
We have plenty of cash....just not for bums like DOCK. LOL... Good Guard, you just PAID WAY TO MUCH FOR HIS SERVICES! |
