Re: Redskins vs. Saints Official Game Day Thread
Did anyone else think that OT review should never have even happened?
The Saints' coach called a TO to "give the booth time to think about reviewing that play" according to the announcers. In OT, all reviews are done by the booth and can not be challenged by the request of the coaches. However, it seemed like that is EXACTLY what Payton was allowed to do...request a review. We were about to run the next play and it wasn't initially going to be reviewed...until the Saints took a TO to encourage a second look. Of course, they blew yet another game-changing review against us...but I do not think it should have even been reviewed. If a review is to occur, it should be decided by the booth or officials immediately after the play, not during a TO that was called to give them time to look at something they would not have otherwise reviewed. I see two things wrong there: 1. The Saints and coach Payton used the review rules to their advantage in a way that was not fair to both teams. He basically was granted a challenge when in OT, rules state that the coaches do not get challenges. 2. The officials apparently had a bias or favored New Orleans not only in this instance, but on several major calls. |
Re: Redskins vs. Saints Official Game Day Thread
Well in the long debate in the cowboys game we sorta had the same situation, we delayed the game so that the review would happen, and then we got the penalty overturned because the review was upheld.
However, I don't think the Saints should have been given their timeout back. It was not a challenge flag but instead they called the timeout. Then the review happened. I think the NFL ought to clarify that if the next play doesn't occur in the normal play clock period then the option to review is or is not still available, instead of just saying the next snap. |

That's good coaching by Sean Payton. Nothing wrong with what he did by calling time out there.

I agree, he used the rules to his team's advantage. If Zorn did it, I'd praise him, but the point remains that the rules were exploited unfairly...a loophole may need to be closed up. Aside from that, the refs/review booth blew two obvious and HUGE calls against us...even if the review process had been done correctly, the wrong calls were still made. Seriously, was Stevie Wonder in the review booth? |

Seriously, was Stevie Wonder in the review booth?
you know how i know the refs made the right decision, because they didn't show one replay at fedex, they only show replays when they are in our favor and even then they only do it once. yesterday they didn't show either and when i watched the replays on sportcenter it looks like they did make the right call on sellars, but that rule needs to be amended, and it appeared that moore didn't ever hit the ground from any contact. what if the calls would have been in our favor it would have been a different story bottom line we had that game won but couldn't finish yet again and it leaves us all looking for some one to blame. it really sucked being there i thought i was witnessing one of the greatest redskins games at fedex in a while only to be let down like the past two weeks. the real sad part is how not pissed off i was after losing since i kinda expected going in |
He bears a lot of blame, but it's so much easier to blame a kicker or the offense or the play calling or the refs than to admit the crush so many fans have on the defense is mis-placed. The defense is decent, but it is no way "good." Watch good defenses, they stop teams at critical times AND get and hold onto interceptions and fumbles.
I don't necessarily trust Suisham, but I trust the defense less.
Yeah the top ranked Pass and Redzone scoring defense is way over rated, they suck. :pffff: |

The Saints marched all the way down to the 1 yard line with relative ease to set up the game winning field goal. I thought that was a bit of a slap in the face to our defense. I mean in OT you go for the field goal once you get within range to avoid a turnover. But the Saints just kept marching down the field. |

They were going to try a field goal sooner, but we called TO to ice the kicker and they pulled the field goal unit out and put the offense back in. I guess that they thought that we were prolonging the inevitable. Sean Peyton being the arrogant bastard that he is was attemting to rub it in our faces by punching it in for a touchdown, but they couldn't. The defense did all they really could do...keep them out of the endzone. If anyone got a slap in the face it was Sean. |

Yeah, I didn't see it that way, and I don't know that I have hear SP characterized as arrogant. The D can't hold a lead, I thought if we started scoring first, things would turn around, but seriously, 3 times the O got up by 10 points, and the Defense gave it away each of those times. Good teams(Saints) win, Bad teams(us :() claim moral victories. |
Re: Redskins vs. Saints Official Game Day Thread
SP is confident, cocky, arrogant, aggressive or however else you want to say it. I am not going to debate the transparent with you. As far as the D is concerned though, they played well enough to win the game as did the offense. Did they make mistakes? Yes, so did the offense but in spite of those mistakes they still played well enough to win. The only guy who didn't play well enough to win was the kicker.
