You are right, you all's conversation did say "someone", not necessarily Patriots.
I just saw the trade Reed conversation spin off the talk of Gronk's retirement and that they might 'need' a TE. I still think everyone in the NFL has a copy Reed's long injury list and are fully aware of his concussion issues. I am not sure if the Redskins released him today, Reed might be out of football? With all of the documented CTE concerns, Reed might be better off retiring like Gronk. But Reed may not be ready financially or is in denial.
If Reed was released today, he'd have a home fairly quickly. The TE market wasn't very good for FA. |
Re: Redskins Free Agency Thread
Daily reminder that we gave PAUL RICHARDSON a 5 yr/40 million dollar deal which eventually resulted in not being able to retain Jamison Crowder for 3 yrs/28 mil.

Sure he would get picked up, but won't get paid any where close to what the Redskins are paying him. |

This is very true.....Richardson can ball but his injury last year was a disappointment.....although he's only heading into the second year of his contract, signing him last offseason could turn out to be a bust decision...not being able to retain Crowder does in fact make you think about Richardson and question whether or not if signing him was a bad decision and also if his contract ate up what Crowder might have received from the Redskins..... |
Re: Redskins Free Agency Thread
I honestly didn't remember that Richardson was on the team. Man, what a crap season 2018 was. Sheesh.

Re: Redskins Free Agency Thread
Daily reminder that we still have 4.6M available (12.5 - 7.9 rookie pool), so cutting VD and/or extending Scherff's effin contract would give us more than enough to sign a decent G and/or a decent edge rusher, in case we don't fill all of our needs with A+ players in the draft...

Re: Redskins Free Agency Thread
I'm really surprised there hasn't been an extension for Scherff yet.

Re: Redskins Free Agency Thread
Yea if colt is anything other than 3rd string we have not addressed the QB issue at all .. realistic Smith is done, We need starter and backup.. Rosen starts, Case and McCoy that’s best case scenario.

Beyond the 2019 cap situation, if he's not extended I'll be scared for the future. We can't afford to lose our core A+ players... |

Makes me think that either he/his agent is asking for a ton of $$$ or he's willing to wait to become a free agent...or both. |

JP Findlay was talking about this not long ago, saying that these extensions typically happen in late Spring/Summer. I think Trent was extended in August and Kerrigan in July. |

I guess if there's no rush for the cap room it's not a big deal, everyone is likely focused on the draft right now. I'll just breathe a lot easier when it's done. |

Same here. As many gaffes this team has done, they do go all out for players they like and are important, like Trent and Ryan K. However, I will too breathe a little easier when they get this done. |
Re: Redskins Free Agency Thread
Regarding Scherrf, do we really think extending him is in the long-term best interests of the franchise?
Don't get me wrong, Scherrf is one of the few "blue chip" players we have on the team. He is an elite talent. But that's kind of the problem. He will rightfully expect a contract which makes him the highest paid guard in the league. I read somewhere that we already have one of the highest paid offensive lines in the league. With all the needs the team has, can we really afford to devote even more money to the position group? I understand it would free up some cap space in 2019. But after that, we'd be committing a significant portion of our cap to Williams, Moses, and Scherrf. Unless Scherrf is willing to give us a hometown discount, I think we might be better suited to transition tag him next year and see if we can get something of value for him from another team. If a market doesn't develop, then pull the tag to enable us to get a compensatory pick in 2021. Alternatively, I would be all for extending him if we think we'd be trading Williams/Moses at some point in the next year or two. Ultimately, I just don't think its prudent to pay big money to 3 guys on the O-line. |
Re: Redskins Free Agency Thread
Scherff is one of the top players in the league at his position, you keep him. No need to overthink it. We don't have enough elite players as it is.
