I don't know about you guys. Aren't you more concerned with AJ Smith getting involved? Theirs a lot of negative stuff about him everywhere more than others for a reason. Too me I would be more concerned with this. I feel if he gets in control as GM, it will be twice as worse than with Shanny. Then we will wish we had shanny back. Imagine AJ smith involved in RG III contract negotiations, Ryan Kerrigan, trading cousins situations. What do you think? Hope it doesn't come to that and the skins fans start the ravens more because snyder can't get right.

AJ Smith built some good teams in SD, Marty and Norv failed in the playoffs.

if we bring gibbs back, maybe he'll trade for carson palmer and bench rg3; could be just what we need...
I am not sure who the next coach should be right now. I am still processing the fact that I think there should be one. I was a diehard Shanny supporter since day 1. That all ended on Thursday. I am done. Three and a half years later we still have the same issues. Terrible defense, terrible special teams, lack of discipline. When does anyone get held accountable? How is Haslet still the DC on this team? Is there anyone here that did not know that the viks were coming back when we took the 13 point lead. It's Groundhog Day in DC and if Shanny won't hold anyone accountable then it's finally time to make HIM accountable.

Intrigued more by Shaw then Briles right now. Briles just seems like the obvious perfect fit and that is what scares me. His age concerns me also...I would like the next coach to spend a decade with Griffin not just a few years.
Well the guy who will really be key from Baylor is Phillip Montgomery, he's the one who really molded RG3. Would imagine he would come with Briles. That said I'm not totally sold yet that Briles would be the guy

Right now let's close the door on Shaw. Doesn't look like it's happening

I don't know if I completely agree with that. It's midseason for both teams, it doesn't make sense for him to try and make a declaration that he wants to coach in the NFL right now. I'd chalk his comments up to being coy more than anything else.

Not to name drop, but I just talked to him about it yesterday. He's been open to it, but now he's really leaning toward no

Well, can't say I was expecting that response...

Can you push him to reconsider?

Did you just ask if Smoot could make a coach reconsider for a coaching job in Washington half way through a season? lol

Talking about Shaw right? Can you share why he's leaning toward no? Very cool you are privy to this stuff.

I would prefer we bring in a defensive minded HC with one of these offensive gurus at OC to work with RG. Do you think most college HC's would look at that scenario or do they expect HC right away?

Anyway, it's the defense that needs a whole hell of a lot of attention. Makes sense to bring a guy who will shore that up and let the OC and RG have total freedom with the offense.

Haha, yeah I understand that's a bit suspect after saying he's being coy for not saying anything during the season. But if we're having a coaching change this offseason, I'd like to get my top choice...

Shaw is good friends with Bruce Allen, his wife is from the area, and he was the point person in heavily recruiting RG3 to Stanford (obviously didn't happen). So those were all reasons he was interested.

But the more he thinks about it he leans toward his first instinct, which is that he and his family are very happy out west and he just likes the college environment better

The west is the best....
Sounds like a smart guy.
Cowher and Gruden are not coaching again and they shouldn't both have been gone for a while now
I don't agree. Gibbs was out of coaching. Left completely and started racing.

Cowher and Gruden are announcers, they study each team for their commentary, and still take the time to learn the X's and O's to be able to talk about what each team is doing. If anything they have had more time to study the game since their not having to coach players and run an organization.
Does anyone think Shanny gets an extension this offseason?
I'm trying to make my way through this whole thread and didn't want to say anything until I reached the end but .....

Personally I think the offense has not been that bad. It started out rough and I think with getting our $40 mill to spend will help out a ton. Maybe pick up another top notch WR, pick up a couple "better" OL, and maybe trade Cousins for another draft pick and pick up another "mobile" QB to back up RG3. I might keep Cousins and replace our 3rd stringer with a mobile QB and try and get the Rookie QB up to speed.

Now for the BIG issue: DC. I would fire Haslett and replace him with someone other then anyone on the team currently. This is where Allen earns his keep and brings in a really good DC. 3/4, 4/3 I don't care but Haslett needs to go. His defenses ever since he's been here have been mediocre. I'd look for a top quality Special Teams Coordinator as well. Maybe a college coach for that position.

On another note, yes I'd extend MS but move him to solely take care of his front office responsibilities and to guide KS. I'd make KS a HC and let him pick his OC.

The good news.... the offense is putting up 20 to 30 points a game. Now we need a defense that can stop opponents and a special teams that can limit yardage and a punter that can boom kicks. .
Well, I mean, it's really obvious that they've made better moves. Everybody knows that.

You not wanting to admit the situations were pretty freakin close doesn't make it less close. I'll agree to disagree on the point since I don't have a snowball's chance in hell of getting you to revisit some of the key points of your understanding of the pre-Shanahan Redskins. Only time can do that. And even then, your heels are pretty dug in.

Let's move in this direction: the cap penalty. Who on this team (current member of the 53 man roster) is NOT here because we were too cap-strapped to replace them? Gumbs? Hall? Those are the only names I can think of where the Redskins didn't have a player to keep because they couldn't afford to overpay Aqib Talib or DaShon Goldson.

Like it or not, 50/53 players on this team would be here even without the cap penalty. We know that because we had legitimate, cheap competition during training camp, and chose the current roster over those guys.
I would have added Moss cause I thought they were looking at a WR who went to San Diego instead and I'd have to say the RT would have been someone else.
