But I don't think it's what you think it is. I thought BA did a good job on Town though. Definitely a good flick, decent storyline. |
I saw Book of Eli in the theater and thought it was good.
My wife and I rented The Slammin' Salmon last weekend from Redbox. We both love the Broken Lizard movies (Super Troopers, Club Dread, BeerFest), and both figured it would be cheesy. While it was cheesy, it was laugh out loud funny for us and was a pleasant surprise. Some definite eye candy (Cobie Smulders, April Bowlby, Olivia Munn, Morgan Fairchild (ok, that one might be a stretch)) and Michael Clarke Duncan is hysterical as the lead character.
I saw The Slammin' Salmon when it first came out and I thought it was pretty decent. Not as good as some of their other work but it still had its' moments. Michael Clarke Duncan was especially hilarious in it, I loved his attitude. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
The Social Network is an excellent film. The story behind Facebook is intriguing. Great writing (Sorkin), direction (Fincher) and score (Reznor).

I think Reeves should have left this scene in the movie: (Warning- the scene is intense and implies a not-so-nice moment) [YT]NsKk0A_vofQ[/YT] |

I haven't seen it yet but I've read articles from friends close to Mark Zuckerberg and they say it paints a very bad picture of him, that he wasn't anything like what he's portrayed in the movie. Having not seen it and not knowing Mark Zuckerberg I don't have much of an opinion on it but it doesn't seem like a nice thing to do if that is true. And I just saw The International last night. I definitely liked that one, waited long enough for it to come out but it was very good. And it was a nice redemption for Clive Owen because the last movie I saw him in before The International was Shoot 'Em Up and I couldn't take him seriously in that one at all. |
From what I've gathered, Sorkin definitely took creative liberties with the story. While Zuckerberg isn't painted as a saint, the movie shows that nobody came out clean during Facebook's ascension. Zuckerberg is written in a way that leaves much to be interpreted from the viewer. You should still watch it if you have any interest... it's a good flick. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I finally saw Inception,wasnt impressed.I thought the first hour & half were Inceptionally boring,when they entered the final dream sequence it picked up some.Special effects were good,but you can say that about a lot of movies.At least the story was original{that I know of}
I'd give it a 2.5 out of 4,maybe a second look on dvd will make me appreciate it more |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
saw shutter island late saturday night. it was alright, not a horror movie at all which i didnt think it would be but i thought it would atleast have some elements of an oldschool horror movie.
wasnt bad, wasnt great. has me alil worried about seeing inception, seems like htown got the smae feeling from that as i did with shutter. |

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
saw the movie The Lovely Bones last night on HBO. i didnt have high hopes for it to begin with after reading the info on it but it was chance to turn the lights down low and cuddle up.
I wont ruin it for you with specific outlining. Well dont see it. It started off ok and with some promise but man, the last 45 mins it had some of the studipest most random events that circumvent any type of consistency or foreshadowing or quality storytelling. These random events that come out of nowhere with no foundation or foreshadowing greatly effect the overall storyline. piss poor writing. why spend time developing a storyline then to just have the main character die from swerving his car to avoid a random squirrell that runs into the street? this didnt happen, just an example. |

I didn't like it either. I just thought it was, "Let's be twist-y for being twisty's sake." Movies like that just make me mad. :cheeky-sm Maybe it's just me, but I ALWAYS want a happy ending (in movies AND massages). But seriously, I never leave a movie that ended all artsy-fartsy where the main character dies or it just ends up depressing saying, "Damn! So glad that ended that way. A happy ending would have just been TERRIBLE." |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Shutter Island is one of my favorite books and I think that's a big reason why I liked the movie as much as I did. I usually hate it when people say this but I think it really is one of those movies where you should also read the book. Personally, I'm always amazed that people who never read the book Fight Club like the movie as much as they do because I think it's really the same way.
Yes, it's "twisty for twisty sake" but the book was written that way on purpose. It was made to be kind of a throw back, pulp fictiony (not the movie but the genre) story. |

I felt the story threw the viewers a few misdirections to keep you thinking throughout the film. Scorsese's direction was top notch and the scene with Leo and his his wife by the lake was amazing. Fight Club was definitely both a great book and film adaptation. Palahniuk is one crazy writer. |

I can't say I agree with you, I mean I wasn't in shock and awe about it either and it definitely had its' moments where I was like, this isn't really that interesting or compelling, but without giving too much away I think the storyline wasn't about revenge so much as it was saying everybody will get theirs at one time or another so it doesn't do much good to keep dwelling on it. Also finally saw American Me in its' entireity last night. I've watched parts before but never the whole thing. What an awesome movie. I don't want to give away anything but since it came out in '92 I'm fairly certain most people here won't be too mad about me giving anything away since it came out 18 years ago. So don't read from this point on if you don't want to know what happens. The whole storyline about the guys starting the gang wayyy back in the day as a means to protect themselves, and then at the end when they kill their leader for being too soft, I think it really highlights how gangs have evolved in this country. And nobody talks about this but look at how gangs destroy families. I wouldn't be suprised if gangs have told members who have family that they have to choose between killing a family member or betraying their gang and that some people have chosen to kill family members just to stay in the gang. |
you are def right that the movie was about letting go and letting karma or life work itself out naturally. i guess i found that part ot be underwhelming and satisfying still, the last 45 mins or so had my saying wtf. |

Murray was taking a break from acting, but he is back as of 2010, his IMDB shows him in a few movies, one that he has a lead role in. |

I don't care for the 3D. People doing stupid stuff is funny to me. Yes I represent all that is wrong with today's society, blah blah blah.... |

The American version is out now...anyone checked that out?
Very Good movie. The Swedish one was a lot darker i think, in regards to Hakan and his relationship with Eli. The american one is a more condensed version, but very good in its own right. Great performance by Chloe Moretz (Kick Ass). She will be a star one day for sure. |

It's not 1985 anymore, 3D isnt that big of a deal. its just an excuse for movies to make more money, by charging a higher ticket price. Rumor right now is that the reason why Saw 7 is in 3D, is to give it more of a chance to match revenue with the blockbuster Paranormal Activity 2. Every Saw movie since Saw 4 has lost money at the box office each year. |

Really the 3D looks to me just as shitty as 1985, maybe a bit better but definitly the same ballpark. I have even seen Avatar in IMAX 3D. 3D is just the new gimmick studious have come out with or I should say brought back. Now when you can completely immerse me in hologram then come talk to me. |

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
3D is the shit ! Or at least having a 3D TV is the shit. I've got a PS3 and that along with the 3D TV, I've found a way to enjoy it. I don't have any movies yet but A Christmas Carol, Alice in Wonderland, and probably any game (because I downloaded MLB 3D's demo) will be pretty cool. Apparently NFL Network is supposed to do something with 3D or at least that's what the guy at The Big Screen Store told me. Who knows, but it isn't all that bad.
