In your opinion what stunk about it? Personally we thought that the story was good and for the most part, believable. The humor was great too. |

Too me it was trying to hard to be Mad Max, it never held my attention. |

The acting was awful and IMO it was totally unbelievable. When JT was taking on that Asian gang it felt like Big trouble in Little China and the coke scene how dumb like really you would hide it all in the ceiling, every time you need some you have to tear up the ceiling to get at it. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
So you have 2 complaints about the realism in "From Paris with Love", yet I could completely destroy the reality of the Bourne series from start to finish. Not that it's not entertaining, it's just way beyond reality.

To each his own of course but From Paris With Love gets some brutal reviews
From Paris with Love Movie Reviews, Pictures - Rotten Tomatoes Book of Eli doesn't do much better The Book of Eli Movie Reviews, Pictures - Rotten Tomatoes 2 movies I probably wouldn't watch if you paid me. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread

It used to be that you wanted cinema to capture reality. Now we want cinema to blow us away and it's not realistic or cool enough if it doesn't cut it. Normal people in that kind of work are cheesy ass self proclaimed badasses just like Travolta's character or by the book dweebs like the other guy. Situations like that (I am talking about the overall plot) do happen frequently. That is why we enjoyed it. |

nicely done sir. that gave me a good laugh i remember the movie i wanted to talk about: machette the fake trailer clip in grindhouse was awesome, i, like alot of people, were hoping they would make that into a full length movie and they have. the movie looks very closely tied to the trailer, with the same old school grainy feel and action. i am going to wait for reviews but i am interested to see how rodriguez did this one. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I want to see Machette as well. Looks like it'll be a fun movie. Whole lot of Bullets, blood, Cursing, Violence, Cliche's, and women. Just like the good Lord intended movies to be.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
The wife and I are going out tomorrow night to see the last exorcism!!!! I cant wait!!!!
|
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Watched Kick Ass and went in with low expectations. I expected a half rate comedy and got a raunchy action flick. I was pleasantly suprised.
|
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
My wife hated Kick-Ass, I thought it was cool. Wasn't the greatest thing I've ever seen but that little girl kept me interested.
|
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Saw The Expendables. I was so pumped after the movie I punched a hole through a fire hydrant.
|
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Did anyone see The Last Exorcism? I'm thinking about seeing it.. Eli Roth does do pretty good movies... But it's PG-13.. Total turn off...

I have heard mixed reviews about it. Funny you should say PG-13 makes it bad, I think it is the opposite in horror films simply because the film makers actually have to come up with a plot where most R rated horror is just gore porn. |

I agree with the PG-13 thing. Take Max Payne for example, I had high hopes for it and it totally blew. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I saw The Other Guys last night and I was pretty damn surprised. I didn't think I was going to like it that much but I found it pretty damn funny. It was so over the top that it just had me cracking up throughout. Maybe not worth the price of a ticket, but definitely worth seeing it once it comes out on DVD.

If you can pull off a psychologically terrifying movie without the torture-porn, more power to ya. OTOH, I kinda want to peep the rated R Piranha 3D... at first I thought it just looked cheesy, but when I found out it was directed by the French guy who helmed High Tension. This dude knows horror. |

As for PG-13 psychological thrillers, I did like The Haunting in Connecticut from a few years back. Thought that was surprisingly good. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Piranha was pretty good. I mean it was what it was supposed to be. If you remember the original then just take that and give it the resources that we have today. It's gory as hell, plain and simple. With a whole S-Load of boobs.
If you're looking for Oscar worthy horror then don't even see it, but if you want to have a good ol fun time at the movies check it out. |

As campy as the script called for, did you notice how technically sound everything was? The camera shots underwater were amazing (especially the "one scene" with classical music)... Alexandre Aja is masterful when it comes to creating something beautiful amidst the blood. |

My wife and I rented The Slammin' Salmon last weekend from Redbox. We both love the Broken Lizard movies (Super Troopers, Club Dread, BeerFest), and both figured it would be cheesy. While it was cheesy, it was laugh out loud funny for us and was a pleasant surprise. Some definite eye candy (Cobie Smulders, April Bowlby, Olivia Munn, Morgan Fairchild (ok, that one might be a stretch)) and Michael Clarke Duncan is hysterical as the lead character. |

I want to get into an IMAX theatre to check this out before it's too late. Not my typical cup of tea, but I just cannot pass up the total disaster that this movie is. As a child I dreamed of a movie with all of the action stars in it. Later in life the military destroyed my taste in action films but not my dreams of a star filled action film. |

Buried- 9/10. Ryan Reynolds stuck in a coffin for 90 minutes. This film is a true test of what a film crew can do with a camera, lighting and sound. And Reynolds steps his game way up in this flick. Town- 7/10. Excellent action sequences, but didn't live up to the hype for me. Liked Gone Baby Gone better. Devil- 8/10. I now know what Shamalamadingdong's problem is- the dude can't direct or write dialogue, but he has a great imagination. This one kinda surprised me. Stick to the story and let the experts direct/write. Can't wait for this weekend: Let Me In is going to kick the original's ass (and I loved Let The Right One In). The Social Network combines television's best writer (Sorkin) with one of Hollywood's best directors (Fincher)... look for Oscar noms. Down the road, Coen brothers also return with a True Grit adaptation (featuring The Dude). And who doesn't love a little darkness in their lives?: [YT]5jaI1XOB-bs[/YT] |

You're right ! It really was shot well, and yes that scene was beautiful. I was already a fan of classical music so adding them just made that lovely music really speak to me. Can't wait for it to come out on Blu-Ray. I have a 3D kit on my new tv as well so I'll get to see it in 3D. |
