Re: Around the NFL- Week 3
The call was terrible, but what's the excuse going to be when regular referees return and they make the same bad calls fans have been complaining about for years?
Refs will always miss calls, unless we get robot field judges that are programmed to see everything, everywhere, everytime. There will still be ticky tack calls missed, i.e. missed holding calls, subtle jostling between db's/wr's, etc. but a lot of things we used to take for granted should return to normal. Things like game speed, refs being in the right position to see things, controlling the players so scraps don't get out of hand, etc. The obvious calls should still be called, like calling Sidney Rice for interference because he was draped all over Sam Shields instead of putting that on Shields. Same thing with plays like the one Darrius Heyward-Bey got injured on. Things like the refs knowing the rulebook too, like a dead ball foul is not a 10 second runoff inside 2 minutes, and things like correct spotting of the ball after a penalty so 20 yard unsportmanslike penalties never happen. Those are all examples of things that the regular refs never had a problem with, and are glaring examples of what the replacements have done so far. Sure, instances of the refs penalizing the player who retaliates against an instigator will happen, but that should be expected by now. |
Re: Around the NFL- Week 3
To me there is a distinction between bad calls and wrong calls. People weren't wholly concerned about the integrity of the game under the regular refs. But now? There are plenty of people worried about it. Until our Rams game I was part of the "these guys aren't too bad and they'll get better" crowd. These past two weeks have proven to me though just how difficult the job is and just how unqualified these scabs are. It is CLEARLY affecting the game and it is even more CLEARLY affecting the fans' perception of the game. THAT is a major problem that the league needs to recognize and get fixed immediately.
That's kind of the point I was trying to make. Are fans going to go back to "these refs suck!!!!!" or will it be "well, damn I have so much respect for the work you do I'll just keep quiet" |
Re: Around the NFL- Week 3
instead of these refs reviewing video, they should just poll america like dancing w the stars or american idol.
something like text your call to 202-555-wolf text a to confirm the ruling on the field text b to overturn the ruling on the field |

Well, finally! Robocop syle would suit me. They could put a transponder in the ball so its location is never in doubt (kinda like tennis) and make better use of the replay booth. Oh, and bring back the Ver. 1.0 refs, already! |

Or we could go the humane route and put the RFID chips in cleats, helmets and gloves? |
