Re: Trouble in Redskins Park?
Seems to me that Gruden and SM are at odds as well. I remember that comment when the season was over, basically Gruden said that we need to do better in the first round cause "one was hurt and one was a guard." I mean did Gruden realize that Brandon S. is a legit starter and is a really good player?? Just a stupid ass comment by Gruden and a direct shot at SM.
Brandon S. is a good player -- but with a terrible DL and Leonard Williams sitting there - not really a great pick. Leonard Williams is one of PFF's top graded DEs. Brandon S is a good player, but good guards can be found later. |
Re: Trouble in Redskins Park?
I wonder how much of the power struggle is actually Gruden vs McC.
And if McC's drinking has anything to do with this well, he only has himself to blame. |

Re: Trouble in Redskins Park?
Fire Bruce Allen now!! What a stupid shithead!!

Re: Trouble in Redskins Park?
I thought Gruden and McCloughan got along?

Re: Trouble in Redskins Park?
Fact from Fiction -- I am a bit concerned that folks are conflating the two. The only firm facts of which I am aware are that McCloughan (a) didn't go to the combine, (b) had a death in the family (admittedly a few weeks earlier), and (c) we haven't signed any of our FAs. If there are other facts associated with this, I would welcome the chance to hear them. But the stuff about McCloughan drinking, conflict between him and Gruden, and all the rest is at best conjecture, isn't it? Maybe there are some reasonable inferences here, but absent fact, why would anyone assume that the sky is falling?

Because it's pretty obvious something is going on, all too often when it comes to this team if there's smoke there's fire. |

Scot and Gruden generally do get along. I don't think it quite came out the way he meant it. Scot and Allen is really where the real dissension is. I don't want to get into it because it would mean bringing up "he who shall not be named again" but the GM job was AJ Smith's to have, but Snyder shot it down over a strong disagreement over "he who shall not be named" |

I can't tell whether if you're sarcastic or you really believe everything is OK? |

I hear you, Matty, but no one really knows what it is except those involved. Power struggle, health issue (not that they're mutually exclusive), creative differences (ok, that isn't likely). I am trying to look at this team in a different light given that last season was really without drama; it's hard not to assume the worst given the last two decades, I grant you. But maybe -- just maybe -- we're getting on the other side of that craziness. |

It's a huge, huge deal for the GM of a team to miss the combine. This is arguably the most important week of his job. The offseason truly begins there. |

I am not saying I assume everything is OK. But I am saying that I'd prefer to work off of fact. I know -- radical idea these days. |

I realize that you often have inside information (if memory serves, you work with the team or did at one point), and I respect your views a lot. And it is impossible to disagree with your statement about the importance of the combine -- it's really self-evident. I just don't want to speculate and assume the worst here; after 20 years of doing that (with reason), I am hoping for a level of respectability for this franchise and for a reasonable, non-doomsday explanation. |

end the end...is it the drinking? Or is this just the power struggle and an eff you to Bruce in missing the Combine? Like you said, this is a major event and where you set the table for both the prospects but more importantly the start of Free agency....Tampering rules be damned! I would think if McC moving out of picture than the likely hood of Cousins returning is greater. |
