Re: I like doing these
1st - Phillip Merling - DE/DT - Clemson
2nd - Brandon Flowers - CB - VT or Antoine Cason - CB - Arizona 3rd - Tony Hills - T/G - Texas or Jerome Simpson - WR - Costal Carolina 3rd Comp - Marcus Monk - WR - Arkansas or Tony Hills 5th - Chad Rhinehart - G/T - Northern Iowa 6th - Corey Lynch - S - App State 7th - Alvin Bowen - OLB - Iowa State 7th Comp - Kyle Wright - QB - Miami 7th Comp - Addarius Bowman - WR - Oklahoma State
Merling's Pro Day on Thursday should be interesting. Hopefully he doesn't do too good otherwise he may not be there at #21. He might not be there regardless I think you've got Monk too high as a 3rd rounder, possibly the same with Bowman in the 7th round. I like the Hills and Rhinehart choices, particularly Hills. Though I hear Rhinehart is slipping on many draft boards. My favorite player coming out of this draft is definitely Antoine Cason. Some of my colleagues think he's overrated, but I love love LOVE him. Great player, better person. If we drafted him, I'd buy his jersey the day it went on sale. I'd petition Matty to have a Cason avatar by Monday. I might even asked to have my username changed (yet again) to Cason Fo Lyfe! Have I mentioned I'm an Antoine Cason fan? :) Unfortunately, I've heard no indications that the Redskins are interested. Even more unfortunately, I hear the Cowboys really like him (possibly at #28?). |
Re: (updated title): Make Your Day One Redskins Draft Selections (Rounds 1-2)
Given our current roster I'll take:
1st round: Devin Thomas, WR, Michigan State - the guy we need, has all the physical tools that we are searching for, can help Campbell to grow a lot more. With him we could have the opportunity to stretch the field vertically with Moss and Randle El. 2nd round: Lawrence Jackson, DE, Usc - I'll take this one because I believe that Calais Campbell will not fall to us. We need depth at this department. |
Re: (updated title): Make Your Day One Redskins Draft Selections (Rounds 1-2)
I think the best possible realistic mock draft for the Skins right now would be as follows.
1st - Phillip Merling - DE/DT - Clemson - Versatile DE, that believes he can also play DT. As has been said many times before he would replace the again Phillip Daniels as well as provide an interior pass rush on 3 downs. 2nd - Charles Godfrey - CB/S - Iowa - Big, fast, versatile prospect from the same school as Bob Sanders. 3rd - Jerome Simpson - WR - Coastal Carolina - Big, sure handed reciever, though I'm not sure if he'll be avaiable this late in the draft 3rd comp - Tony Hills - T/G - Texas - Versatile OL prospect whos drop this far is probably due to injury concerns. Team would also proably consider taking Zutah if he falls this far, but thats very unlikely at this point 5th - Chad Rhinehart - G/T - Northern Iowa - This would give the Skins another capable O-Lineman to work with. However if Owen Schmit is availble at this point then don't expect the team to pass him up. OLB is also a possiblity here. Plus the Skins are adament about drafting two prospects from the same postion late in the draft if they wait to address a need. (See Anthony Montgomery and Kedric Gholston/ Dallas Startz and HB Blades/ Jim Morliano and Mark Wilson) 6th - Kevin O'Donnell - QB - San Diego State - Athletic QB prospect with all the physical tools you look for 7th - Alvin Bowen - OLB - Iowa State - Very productive OLB, a bit undersized 7th Comp - Joey Haynos - TE - Maryland - Very tall local product that filled in nicely after Vernon Davis left, of course he's not Vernon Davis, nor did he ever match his production 7th Comp - Marcus Dixon - DT/DE - Hampton - Would give them a capable inside player, then again this is the 7th round we're talking about Cool article about the pre draft presser. One of my favorite quotes came from Vinny Cerrato talking about an exchange with Clinton Portis. Scout.com: Pre-Draft Presser: Zorn, Cerrato and Snyder On if there are some positions they will not take at 21: “When I walked in the training room this morning Clinton (Portis, RB, #26) was down there getting stretched and he says ‘What are we doing?’ I said ‘Didn’t you hear? We traded up for McFadden (Arkansas, RB).’ He laughed. If something crazy happened where somebody fell, you have to look and evaluate it. There are some positions that don’t really warrant us taking.” |
Chad Johnson/Anquan Boldin Mock Draft
1st - Traded for Chad Johnson or Anquan Boldin
2nd - Charles Godfrey - CB/S - Iowa - Great combination of physical tools and versitility 3rd - Kendall Langford - DT/DE - Hampton - Aggresive inside pass rusher that can also play end. They could also draft a guy like Marcus Harrison from Arkansas if he falls this far with Langford off the board 3rd Comp - Tony Hills - T/G - Texas - The Redskins get a talented O-line prospect that unfortunatley comes with injury concerns 5th - Chad Rhinehart - G/T - Northern Iowa - Redskins try to make sure they come away from this draft with at least one good lineman by drafting two guys from the same position like they have in years past, but then again 5th round picks have had trouble making the team in recent years. 6th - Kevin O' Donnell - QB - San Diego State - The Redskins get a raw and talented QB prospect that has the type of mobility and arm you look for in a West Coast QB 7th - Alvin Bowen - OLB - Iowa State - Redskins get a productive OLB that will be sure to be a hit on special teams 7th - Joey Haynos - TE - Maryland - Big local product that can contribute as a 2nd TE in passing plays 7th - Andrew Crummy - C/G - Redskins get another local product that can play Center. |

How is that possible???!!!! Don't you know that trading for Chad Johnson means we're not allowed to make any other moves. There's no way, NO WAY, we can make a trade for Chad Johnson (getting a big-time WR to help the offense and Campbell) and still get a potential a CB, DE, OL (two in fact!), not to mention depth at other positions to! How is that even possible!!!! Your logic has no place here |

Re: (updated title): Make Your Day One Redskins Draft Selections (Rounds 1-2)
the only problem with losing that 1st is the very slim chance at a good DE dies... honestly it's not that great now anyways.
i'd take porter in the 2nd though, godfrey is more likely to make it to the 3rd, though crummy probably has to be taken in the 6th, cause i don't see him lasting all the way to our last pick. I guess i'd try something like this: 1 - WR trade 2 - trevor laws (DT) 3 - charles godfrey (CB) OR OG (schuening etc) 3 - jeremy zuttah (OT - project) OR jack williams (CB) OR OG (schuening etc) 5 - zackary bowman (CB) 6 - rudoplh hardie (DE) 7 - chaz schilens (WR) 7 - mario urritia (WR) 7 - samuel giguere (WR) if laws is gone, you hope a guy like jackson etc falls. campbell wouldn't be terrible there either, but he's probably closer to philip daniels than that pass rushing beast we all want. In the 7th, a lot of guys near our picks aren't getting drafted anyways, so it's less important who you get, since you can probably get a bunch of them UDFA as well. haynos (TE) would be a UDFA signing, as would a couple LBs. |

I like Bowman in the 5th, as you know. Let me ask you this? How do you feel about Avril (Cliff, not Lavigne)? |

Stupid Canadians,oh wait. I feel like he is kind of undersized. He also might Lack ideal height and has just adequate bulk for his shorter frame. I saw that the he plays with a narrow base and will struggle to anchor at the point of attack when teams run at him. Also he gets in trouble when forced to play head-up or inside shoulder of OT. I think he needs to be a seven-technique to be effective. Sometimes he gets too far up the field ate times and will take himself out of plays. I also think he has very limited experience turning and running in coverage as an OLB. Lololololololololololololoolollololololololol As far as Zutah is concerned. I want him to fall to the Redskins 3rd comp pick, but apparently he projects as a second rounder these days. |

I think the other avril would be a better use of the pick. |
Re: (updated title): Make Your Day One Redskins Draft Selections (Rounds 1-2)
1. Gosder Cherilus OT Boston College
2. James Hardy WR Indiana 3. Tyvon Branch CB Connecticut 3. Josh Barrett SS Arizona St 5. Bruce Davis OLB UCLA 6. Dennis Dixon QB Oregon 7. Louis Holmes DE Arizona 7. Andrew Crummey OG Maryland 7. Rudolph Hardie DE Howard |
Re: (updated title): Make Your Day One Redskins Draft Selections (Rounds 1-2)
hardie is probably not going to make it to the end of the 7th and neither is crummy. barrett probably won't make it to our comp pick in the 3rd either and i doubt hardy lasts to the end of the 2nd :/

Re: (updated title): Make Your Day One Redskins Draft Selections (Rounds 1-2)
I'll just stick with the first day picks on this one because I have no clue on how the second day will play out. But what I'm hoping for is the Redskins trade the #21 pick to the Falcons for their 2 second round selections, and then with the first pick we take either Jordy Nelson or James Hardy, then with the second pick go with a DE like Laurence Jackson (I think that's his name),

Re: (updated title): Make Your Day One Redskins Draft Selections (Rounds 1-2)
I don't think we are dealing the first round pick for a wide receiver. I think we might have a shot to trade down. Maybe after the draft, we trade future picks for a wideout, but not this year.

Re: (updated title): Make Your Day One Redskins Draft Selections (Rounds 1-2)
I don't follow or care about the college game enough to make educated guesses 7 rounds deep but if these two players are available at our picks, I'll be ecstatic with these picks.
1. WR-James Hardy.. I think he's got EXACTLY what we need. He's huge, has great hands and decent speed. We don't need a rookie to come in and get 70 catches and 800 yds. right off the bat. We need a guy who is going to be able to move the chains and can be a red zone threat. He's our Plaxico, who is a killer in the red zone because he's 6 inches taller than any CB we have. With the Cowboys getting PacMan, we need a WR who can offset his ability and exploit his weakness (height).. 2. DT-Ketwan Balmer.. From what I've seen & read, he seems to have a decent combination of speed and power from the DT position and with some coaching and attention from Blache can evolve into a solid force on the interior of the line.. We can fill the balance of the draft with secondary and OL/DL depth. |
