Re: Arrington's last stand?
Star? So is Brad pitt, doesn't mean he can get it done on the field, we would take Ware, or Spears in a heartbeat for Arrington, and laugh while you find out what we already know, Arrington has been the most overated player in football, and yes that includes Vick.
The most overated in football? That's a stretch isn't it.

And when Spears and Ware go to a few Pro-Bowls (not that that's the measure), let me know.

Most overrated linebacker has to be Teddy Bruske NE. The most overrated safety is Roy Williams.

Re: Arrington's last stand?

Vick is easily the most overhyped/overrated player in the NFL.

LaVar doesn't get half the run in the media that Vick gets.

Sorry I don't measure a players true abilities because he was voted to a popularity contest, I mean a pro-bowl. Ask Cooley what he thinks about the pro-bowl process.

The Pro-bowl is about trying to get ratings, not who wins or loses, they look for personalities, in which Lavar is, but thats where it ends!

Pro-Bowl or no, Ware and Spears aren't in LaVar's class yet.

Arrington in 5 seasons has 22 1/2 sacks.

Ware in 15 games has 7.

He is on his way.

You're overlooking the fact they play in different base systems (Ware 3-4, LaVar 4-3) and LaVar has been shuffled around from ROLB to LOLB and even some DE mixed in.

Besides, sacks alone aren't a great measuring stick of LB's.

Re: Arrington's last stand?

The year Arrington lined up on 3rd downs as a DE I think he had 11 sacks. Maybe we should put him in more on third downs as a DE. I do think Lavar is some what over rated but he is a great player.

Re: Arrington's last stand?

OLD

arrington is on 980- he says so far that he loved saturday and that he finally got to let go. He said he had so much adrenaline.

"I made some plays!"
"I think I did some pretty good things"
"[The defense] showed our capabilities"

lavar played against mike mcmahn in high school

Re: Arrington's last stand?

OLD- i think it is from monday???

Lavar says he can only watch limited film because all of these guys are new. We will come out as a defense that has played well for 4 weeks.

-Shawn Springs has been battling through injuries for a long time. Very tough positiion to play at CB and Springs' preformance speaks volumes of the type of guy he is

-- ON our offense. He says everyone is adapting to their roles and everything is clicking and understanding that if we give the QB time we are gonna have success
Most respect portis and moss at the same time and it makes the defense play balanced and can cause problems

----
commercial
----------

OK he doesn't sound like he thinks he will be gone next year.

Lavar was wondering if we were 4-1 or 5-1 in the division(deerrrrrrrrr???)

"Eagles are gonna have their hands full because we are gonna come out and finish what we started"
"No one is overlooking the eagles" "That team is still there" " they know how to win, you don't learn how not to win" " most dangerous champ to fight is a wounded champ" "No overconfidence with our guys at all were gonna come out to fight"
-------------------------
Didn't even realize patrick was playing. He says that it was great as he went a couple series before he relized and thought it was cool that he didn't notice a difference

------
Griffin's nick name is cyclops
Daniels is getting healthy
We got a great d-line. one of the greatest- he felt like he was at the pro bowl because his guys upfront weren't letting anyone get into the backfield
-----
how good are we?
"As good as we want to be" "how good is that... i don't know"
"we're a special group of guys" "We'll be O.K." " a great situation in front of us" " i can't see us letting this situation away from us"

Polland saysLavar's people are arguing the timing of this thing--either the 'Sports reporters'- andy polland is saying the Timing is bad or the timing is messed up-follow-? They will talk about it soon

_______
Ok now they are telling lavar he can go to baltimore or PHilly.
---------
They say Lavar is rediculous for waiting till 10 days before his first playoff game
-------------
They say this is the worst quote
"Causing a fumble to win a game or getting an interception to change a season, that's not the extent of my life," he says. "It never has been. I always see myself as a person first. Maybe coaches get upset that I don't take myself or this game too seriously and they do. Maybe they get upset because I see it as a game and nothing more than a game."
----------------
Comparing lavar and coles together.-- Both are sensitive people.

basically calling lavar crazy as he changes his mind over and over

Atleast when coles did this it was during the offseason he says

All we are gonna talk about is this shit.

The team is better without him

-andy says he has no choice but to talk about it.

Lavar has hurt his value more than anything and will regret it all.

Best players on this d are Marcus and Sean anyway

Re: Arrington's last stand?

On Sports Nite on Comcast they interviewed Arrington after practice. It seemed as if the quotes were old, although he didn't deny them, and they weren't in the context in the article. Also he said he wants to be a Redskin and would rather retire than play for another team.

Re: Arrington's last stand?

God I hope he stays and works things out. I think it would be a special thing to hold the D players we have now and let them gel for about 4 more years before we start getting rid of people. It would be exciting to see Arrington, Washington, Taylor, Springs, Griffin, Rogers, Clark, Saleve'a, Wynn, Daniels and Marshall, hanging around and really getting into a rythm, with guys like McCune challenging for positions along with the clemons brothers.

I'd like to see us maybe get another corner in a few years to take the place of springs when he chooses to retire (he's getting up there in age isn't he... and I think harris is around the same age??) and maybe a pass rushing DE, unless our line can produce like they have been the last couple of games.

Re: Arrington's last stand?

My advice for LaVar right now would be to shut the F up.

Here's Gibbs reaction to the whole thing

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/football/nfl/12/28/bc.fbn.redskins.arrington.ap/
Asked for his reaction, Gibbs said he had not read Arrington's comments, but he took exception to anything that might distract the team ahead of Sunday's game at Philadelphia. The Redskins will clinch their first playoff berth since 1999 if they beat the Eagles. "Right now, for anybody in this organization -- I would hope in the entire town -- to be focused on anything other than Philly would be ridiculous," Gibbs said. "We're getting ready to play the most important game that a lot of our players will play. ... If we lose the game, we're not going anywhere. So my mind-set is on one thing, Philadelphia. That's the way I feel about it."
Re: Arrington's last stand?

If Lavar retired after the season, would we suffer any cap penalty?
I think I would want that more than anything else. To free up cap space from a player that is good, but over rated

Re: Arrington's last stand?

That has to be old i heard him just 3 weeks ago say that he has never had the same coaching staff for 3 straight years and he wanted williams and the coaches to stay..... its all BS..this is the media... thats what they do.. they make a big deal and stir shit up...they created the whole T.O. thing too....this is a bunch of happy horse shit... And then they get pissed off when some players wont talk to them...

Re: Arrington's last stand?

I for one still have a tremendous amount of respect for Arrington. They guy is a stud and our coaching staff should find a way to use him. If he has deficiencies (i.e. freelancing), our coaching staff should be good enough to correct them.

This guy is not T.O.; ultimately he is a team player. He's been with us through thick and thin and people are ready to turn their backs on him on a dime.

Re: Arrington's last stand?

I agree with Ramseyfan. I know L.A. doesn't know when to be quiet at times, but to call him a selfish, me first, T.O. type of player is stupid. He's been here through the good times and the bad times, he's turned around seasons on his own (I.E. that interception return against Carolina that sparked our season turnaround that year), and he's repeatedly said:
He wants to be a Redskin for life
He would consider retiring if he had to play for another organization.

When he was benched, he wasn't bitching about it, he was complimenting his teammates and accepting it.

Re: Arrington's last stand?

I cannot stomach Snyder anymore - he's a grade A as--ole who alienates players and is keeps adding to his reputation as meddlesome and child-like owner. Snyder offered to send Coles a TV to watch football after the contract dispute. Snyder told Arrington not to talk to him when Arrington tried to say hello. Snyder acts like a petulant little 5 year-old and I'm tired of him. Snyder and his gut should stay away from Redskins Park and players.
Besides, sacks alone aren't a great measuring stick of LB's.
Precisely.

Another poor measuring stick of LBs is taking one year's stats and extrapolating it out for the next 5 seasons on the presumption that the production will remain consistent. Good god man, have some sense.

Another thing Offiss, check your stats. Ware in his first 15 games has 55 tackles (11 assists), 7 sacks and 1 pass deflection. Arrington in his first 16 games had 55 tackles (11 assists), 4 sacks and 4 pass deflections.

Unless Ware absolutely wreaks havoc this Sunday, his first season stats will be only marginally different than Arrington's.

If you're gonna pick someone to hold up as a comparison, do some research first, or pick somebody better.

Re: Arrington's last stand?

I like Lavar and think the defense is stronger with him in the game, BUT the number one LB is now Marcus Washington!

Gregg Williams is more important to the defense than any of the players. He can be replaced, too. Picking excellent defensive coordinators has been one of the things the Redskins have done right for a very long time.
