Re: Season over?
This season is far from over. I feel sorry for the Eagles next week, cuz they are gonna be facing a very pissed off Joe Gibb's team
|
Re: Season over?
There are three things you have to do right in the NFL to win.
1. Run the ball 2. Stop the run 3. Win the turnover battle If you can do that consistently, you will have at least a 70% winning percentage. WE DID NONE OF THE ABOVE YESTERDAY. If we fix these problems, then the season is far from over. If not, look forward to the number 5 draft spot again. It is that simple. Figure out what happened with our O-line yesterday, and half the problems go away. We will get back to our ball control game and protect our D-line' run defense by keeping them off the field. Get some help on that D-line to stop the run outside. Skins do a good job clogging up the middle, but the outside is killing us. Fix that, and you can actually overcome a turnover or two. But with all three things going wrong, no chance to win, ever. Yesterday was a very miserable day for skins fans. Hope there are no repeats in the future. |
Re: Season over?
Over? Why, because they stumbled against the Giants after crushing the Niners?
As Brian Mitchell said on the Redskins Post Game show, Can't get too high after a win and you can't get too low after a loss. I look forward to the rest of the season to reveal the character of the team. |
Re: Season over?
I don't think the season's over but it doesn't look favorable if the Skins revert to pre-season form. The offense was progressing from game to game and then they hit a brick wall. I was concerned about the Giants game but no way should they have been thrashed like that. We will see what kind of character this team has next week. In years past, they have folded the tent and gone home. I hope this is not the case this year.

Re: Season over?
I think the season could potentially be over after next week, not because of a physical loss, but an emotional loss. We need to be careful next week and make sure we don't loss it emotionally. We do have alot of season left, and the schedule will be difficult. And who the hell has given us a shot anyway this season, we need to take the garbage they WILL write about us and use it for motivation. Every team in our divison has gotten there ass kicked so far this year, it just happened to be our turn I guess. Hail to the Redskins!!!

Re: Season over?
Good tag line MK72. It pissed me off before I finished reading it!
It's only over if the Skins are not the team I believe they are. In Gibbs first tenure, the team had evolved to the point that the players held their own meetings to take care of performance issues, etc. I believe we will see some of that type of evolution now. I believe this team has the heart and the wheels to get the job done. I believe they will start with the Eagles!!!!!!! I, like those just like me, cannot publicly admit it is EVER over! |

Re: Season over?
I'm still trying to figure out what to say about the game because there are so many things, I truly do not know where to start. Dissapointing to say the least, but all is not lost "YET". It wasn't so much that we lost a football game, but the way we lost leaves a lot to be desired.

Re: Season over?
I would never give up on a season until we are officially eliminated from the playoff hunt. Like I said in another post, Gibbs teams have had bad offensive performances before and bounced back. Just look at the 1986 championship when New York shut us out 17-0. We came back the next season and won the Super Bowl. My concern rests with the defense. After showing incredible dominance last season despite multiple injuries, they haven't played up to standard this year. They were especially horrible last week against the run. And I think it actually started the week before against SF. Even though they played a solid game overall against a weak offense, they still managed to give up a 72 yard touchdown run late. Frankly, I've been worried about our run defense ever since Shaun Alexander broke off that 34 yard run in the second half of the Seahawks game. Injuries are no excuse. We played through them last year and we need to play through them again. It's time for our guys to show some backbone and bounce back from this disastrous game.

Re: Season over?
not yet over, the giants just outplayed us and they came in in focus and dedicated their game in their owner. maybe they had someting to do with a lot of prayer
and also GOD\S will maybe the next game against eagles, we will come back |
Re: Season over?
What bothered me most is how all week long we heard how this was the biggest game in years for the Skins, that it would set the tone for the season, that it could help decide the fate of the NFC East. It was the most important challenge of the season at its half-way point -- and they played like they wanted no part of it.
Sad. |
Re: Season over?
We have to win the next two games and be 6-3 for us to think about any Runs at the Playoffs

Re: Season over?
To me it was a flashback game, meaning i felt like i was watching a norv turner coached team. lathargic, uninspired, played like imposters not the skins we've seen the last couple of weeks.the rashin that i have had to indure because of this is sad. all i can do is shake my head. this was the worse case scenerio for this game.sa la ve, i just hope we don't have to watch this kind of game next week.this is kind of hard to shake off, but i'm trying.

Re: Season over?
after watching the game and being a skins fan since 1969,this is absolutely the nost un prepared i have ever seen a redskins team.that alone says alot because of the redskins past history of hiring coaches(turner,spurrier,robiskie...need i say more)this team was just flat out not ready to play.i love coach gibbs and everything he has done at washington, but the blame has to fall squarely on his shoulders.i know we fell behind early, but 4 carries for clinton p?lets wake up before it is too late

I see where you're coming from, but I don't remember a Norvell coached team looking as bad as we did Sunday. I'm trying to forget about it. Anyways, the season is far from over. It just makes sundays game even bigger. If we can get a win that puts us at 5-3!! Not bad. |
Re: Season over?
How quickly we forget how piss poor the Skins have looked at times in the past.
Anybody remember the 0-5 start with Marty? How about the 0-7 start with Norv? Do we even need to mention the Spurrier era? Things were pretty bad last week, but we've hit rock bottom plenty of times in the recent past. |
Re: Season over?
The Giants game was a very hard loss that makes this game agianst the Eagles the most important game of the season. We lost, They lost. We have to game plan for them like the Giants game planned for us. Samuels has to step up and shut Kearse down... A line men has to put a body on Trotter and the defense has to wrap up and tackle. Everyone knows Dawkins is gonna blitz, so the line and the backs need to stop him. We have a good team, but we can't let the big show scare us. It is a home game which will help, but our defense has become better agianst cut back speed runners such as Tiki Barber, Tatum Bell and Priest Holmes. Brian Westbrook is that same type of back and we have to bottle him up. Portis on the other hand, has to become that type of back agian. To me, they are forcing him to be a straight "hit the hole" runner and he not that type of back... the line need to create more cutback lanes for him to use in the running game.
This game will be won on the shoulders of our offensive line and defense. They need to step up. Plus no more partying before the games! |

now, did you mean better, or 'butter'? I've been stressing the fact that our run D is looking weak since week 2. Its getting to the point where we're gonna get seriously exploited this season if some major changes dont take place. Phillip Daniels is the Number one guy (if you notice, with the exception of Tatum Bell's one run to the right, that left side is the side we've been getting gashed at) that I personally noticed that has been missing tackles consistantly, or not blocking back to force a running back into the defense. Even if he's not in on the tackle every play, he's got to contribute in forcing the runner inside, and he just hasn't been able to do that. I hate to single out a guy after we lost that game as a complete team, but I do feel that he's the main reason we're getting gashed on the left side runs. I'm sure it has a bit to do with the health of the interior d-line, and the secondary, whereas we would normally be using linebackers and corners to get pressure, and get into the backfield to stop runners in their tracks, and now we cant do that at the risk of getting exploited in the middle and on big plays. I just hope some of our 'core' guys (griffin saleve'a, springs etc..) get healthy on D so we can start attacking again and finish strong. Offensively, what the hell was that???? We moved the ball well against some good D's this year, and while a 31st ranking for the giants may have been a bit misleading, there's no way that our offense should have been stopped like that. How many touches did portis end up with?? I know he got hurt and sat out a while, but you have to establish a run, or at least a threat of a run, in order to open up a passing game (or visa versa)... but they knew we were going to come out passng and they were prepared for it.... but the O-line looked horrible. Samuels and Brown got owned by yet another no - name defensive end. Thats twice this year and that has got to be stopped immediately. If we get less than 3 secs. on avg. to throw a ball without being blitzed, then yes the season is over. I'm not throwing in the towel yet, but if we cant correct a few things, then we may be doomed. |
Re: Season over?
How could we have given up on the season already? 7 games and we are posing that question, I just hope that we are a little more loyal than that. As Joe Gibbs said last night the Redskins are going to need the 12th man against the Eagles this weekend.
And just like the quote says, "Fair weather fans ain't fans" My 2 cents..... :) |
Re: Season over?
I've been so depressed since the loss, I've been staying away from the boards.
I think the Skins will rebound, and I do think that the playoffs and even the division is still very attainable. It's no secret that teams can run on the Redskins. I personally think a healthy and consistent dose of LaVar Arrington could help us out a lot. The defense needs a face, an identity to rally around this year. I think LaVars attitude and enthusiasm is what we'll need to match what J. Trotter brings to the Eagles, Lewis for the Ravens, and so forth. Last year it was hard-hitting Sean Taylor and good solid run stopping that we constantly hung our hat on. This year that really hasn't been the case. Holdman has been horrible. He was okay in the first couple of games and has digressed since, in my opinion. And I don't care if the stats show us having the number one pass defense. That's a very mis-leading stat because teams have learned to play ball control (partly do to turnovers) and run the ball on us, so they aren't really forced into passing situations often - the exception was the 49ers game. That first run by Tiki was like a haymaker punch and we never recovered. We were flat from beggining to end. Here's what I see for the remainder of the season. We could still finish 11-5 or 10-6, if and only if, we limit the turnovers. Head to head we can give any team in the NFL problems, and beat them. If we don't limit the turnovers, 9-7 is where we'll end - pretty much depending on those complex formulas to enter the playoffs. Hail to the Redskins!! |
Re: Season over?
I hope more players don't start moaning to the press like David Patten did today. That could spell trouble.
|
Re: Season over?
I like what u said 12th man. The turnover thing is a big problem now because the rest of the NFL knows that we turn the ball over and look to jump on that
|
Re: Season over?
I hope more players don't start moaning to the press like David Patten did today. That could spell trouble.
Yeah, really. Hey David Patten, how about CATCHING some of the balls that come your way before you start bitching. |
Re: Season over?
the whole patten thing was taken a bit out of contextl, and the media (at least in my opinion) made it out to be something it wasn't. Of course he wants more balls. Every reciever wants more balls. But if you read the article, his direct quotes are more team structured (as they should be, even if it is window dressing) and he said he just wants to win. You could probably take a dozen player's statements after that game and turn them into turmoil, if one were so inclined, so F the ones that are motivated to do so. Thats about all we need right now is someone making a blatant attempt at causing drama in the locker room.
If you just read patten's statements, they were not all the article cracked them up to be. |
Re: Season over?
patten was basically saying he'd like to be more productive, cause he was brought in to help the team, and that's what he wants to be able to do... he wants the same thing every fan wants. He wasn't crying about giving him the damn ball or anything like that.
|

well he was, but not in a distracting way. He wasn't out there saying we'd be winning if we'd hit him with the ball, he was just saying, as you said, he'd like to be more productive and have his number called more, which is asking for the ball and more looks his way, but not to the extent in which T.O. or Moss would, and not to the incenuation of the article that was written. |
Re: Season over?
The Giants looked as good as they are ever going to look yesterday. There were prepared to play, and inspired to do so.
The Redskins looked as bad as professionals can look. We gave up huge plays on the ground, our pass defense was below average, our offense was putrid. Everything that could go wrong, did. This was "the Perfect Storm" of crappiness. We will never look as bad as we did yesterday. This team is better than they looked. Maybe not as good as we'd all hoped, but certainly better than that.
BrudLee, I would highly suggest you taking a look at the ES article. I wonder if this was a COINCIDENCE... HMmmMMmm... |
