The defense needs to come out and do something

Re: Game Day #4: ATL bounce back or Mariotta Revenge
Great to see offense make it close but I don’t have any faith that this defense will be able to shut them down
|
Re: Game Day #4: ATL bounce back or Mariotta Revenge
Out coached and out schemed again. Im not gonna bring the sky down but its in line with how I felt at the start, 9-10 wins possible playoffs. This team needs needs to dig deep

Re: Game Day #4: ATL bounce back or Mariotta Revenge
8 win team at best .. not making playoffs with this D

I see that 9-10 wins as a ceiling and possible wild card as 7th place team. Injuries are hurting us. Penalties are hurting us. Age is hurting us. Defense is really hurting us; where a lot of our age is. |
Re: Game Day #4: ATL bounce back or Mariotta Revenge
Amos, Kinlaw, and Payne, everyone else needs to be replaced next season.
Defense is a bunch of bums. Whitt needs to be fired too. |
Re: Game Day #4: ATL bounce back or Mariotta Revenge
27-34, not as close as the score suggests. Falcons dominated us.

Re: Game Day #4: ATL bounce back or Mariotta Revenge
Giants leading 21-18 with 3 minutes to go and they lost Nabers to a likely acl.

Game Day #4: ATL bounce back or Mariotta Revenge
Joe Whitt - your D has been our Achilles heel two seasons in a row. Need to get back on track fast. Chargers may be looking for a bounce back game next Sun. Losing to the Giants.

Chargers lost to Giants.
They should crush us next week; even if Jayden plays. |

This D is confused. That is the nicest way I can put it. There is absolutely no chance they get a stop when needed.
|
Re: Game Day #4: ATL bounce back or Mariotta Revenge
27 points we scored today would have won 12 games .. the 34 we gave up was among the worst , The D is our issue.. Our secondary is horrible
|
Game Day #4: ATL bounce back or Mariotta Revenge
Secondary is dreadful but the pass rush wasn’t much of a factor either. penix had too much time. A couple of his deep passes to London would not have happened had we been able to generate any pressure. Unimaginative up front. And sloppy tackling today too. Defense was awful across the board, although the run D improved later in the game.
Chargers will be looking for a get right game and the Bears for revenge after we broke them last year. On the other hand, it’s nice to have a team that other teams gun for instead of laugh at. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Game Day #4: ATL bounce back or Mariotta Revenge
Lattimore trade ended up being a borderline terrible look for Peters
No way he comes back next year. Silver line is cutting him results in no dead cap penalty and opens up like 18 million. I would also say trading for older players, save those picks. The team needs to get younger |
Re: Game Day #4: ATL bounce back or Mariotta Revenge
I didn't get a chance to listen to most of second half. I was questioning having Lattimore one on one with Drake because last year he torched Lattimore on Sunday night. I was hoping the coaching staff would adjust like they did in the TB game when Latimore was struggling with Evans but from what I heard no dice there.
IMO this was going to be a tough game regardless, after the ass kicking Atlanta got last week and then being down probably our two best players this was going to be tough but the offense put up enough points, the defense needed to step up |

I agree |
Re: Game Day #4: ATL bounce back or Mariotta Revenge
Frankly, it will not shock me to see us have a losing season and Top 10 pick. Our defense would be a big reason; if that occurred.

Re: Game Day #4: ATL bounce back or Mariotta Revenge
Joe Whitt hasn’t been encouraging hire
|
Re: Game Day #4: ATL bounce back or Mariotta Revenge
Lattimore is getting roasted today. But remember, the Saints moved on from him for a reason. He is damaged goods. He's never going to be an elite corner again. He was on the downside of his career when Peters made the trade.
2-2 and a lot of injuries. Everyone has them so really no excuses. Get a road win next week and this week is forgotten. We all know this is a week to week league. |
Re: Game Day #4: ATL bounce back or Mariotta Revenge
I haven't been on here in a while , been crazy busy with coaching but I will say this whole franchise is not the same without JD5 on the field. The last 2 weeks have been very BLAH and that's with a win last week. We need him back and balling out ASAP
Joe Whitt hasn’t been encouraging hire
No he hasn't but I don't think the unit as a whole that was put together for him is impressive. It is relying on the parts to operate cohesively in order to have success and when it doesn't, we don't have a real game changer on the squad. No one that we can look at and say they are going to get the critical sack or deflection when it is needed. Lattimore hasn't been right for 3 years and Trey is a rookie. The youngest starting LB we have is 29 which is geriatric in NFL terms. The front overall is just average. Payne and Kinlaw might be playing well now but would any of us be surprised if they tail off? |
Game Day #4: ATL bounce back or Mariotta Revenge
Goldman had a decent game yesterday. But Newton is a non factor. And Payne doesn’t consistently show that he’s a force.
The Chargers OL is crushed with injuries. Win that game and we are back where a lot of folks thought we’d be - 3-2 with losses expected with Green Bay and LAC. Every season you lose some you expect to win and hopefully steal a game or two as well. We need to win in LA and get on track. And the team overall can’t expect to show up every other week. Felt flat from the get go yesterday. Miss the fire from Terry. Hope the injuries stop. Apparently Jean-Baptiste tore a pec. I really hope that Preston Smith has something left. Re: Game Day #4: ATL bounce back or Mariotta Revenge
Yeah, JD provides the magic we need to rally.. I still believe the coaches made the right choice to sit JD as this is a long season plus playoff games.
We all knew that it would be very challenging for Peters to resolve all positions within 2 years. The Lattimore trade probably is something that Peters wish he hadn't made. |

It really hasn't worked out, and even if you take away last season when he wasn't healthy, the fact of the matter is he is being targeted this season and folks are finding success. Here are the (brutal) numbers through 4 games: • 20 targets against • 11 catches allowed • 173 yds • 9 first-downs allowed • 6 penalties • 3 15+ yard completions Honestly, I would sit him and put Igbinoghene in, and perhaps move Sanristil out of the slot to the perimeter (where he fare reasonably well last season). The safety spot has been a problem too, although Harris's injury is obviously a factor. To think that we thought the secondary might be a strength this season -- it has been the most under-performing personnel group on the team. Some of it seems to be coaching too -- they clearly aren't as comfortable in zone as they are in man-to-man, and it has shown in the last 3 games when receivers and TEs are not just open, but open by a mile. Every week, I find myself yelling at the tv "How the hell did that guy get so open?!" I am sure we all have. If our secondary just exhibited average play yesterday, that would have been a very different game. A lot of football left, and having JD5 back will help, but they need to get the back end of that defense together quickly or it's going to be a pretty ugly season. Dallas and the Ravens are experiencing this (their secondaries have been dreadful), and they're a combined 2-5-1. |

He's shown the occasional flash, but it is far too occasional. For a high second rounder, you need to get a more consistent contributor. He's still young -- he's only 23 -- and so there's time for him to develop, get stronger, etc. But folks were excited about him last year and this offseason, and we just haven't seen it translate to success on the field. Patience isn't a bad thing -- folks were saying that McCaffrey wasn't offering anything and he's been terrific on special teams and is finally contributing to the passing game too. I don't think he's the next Santana Moss, but he could very well develop into a very solid contributor for us. We need these young guys to develop -- Owens, McGee, and Sinnott all come to mind (Sinnott by the way was not good yesterday -- a couple of drive-stalling penalties on him). We just haven't seen their raw athleticism translate to success on the field; I have to believe some of that is coaching, which is a concern. The feel-good and brotherly love stuff is awesome, but we need coaches to be technicians as well, and I am starting of have some concerns about the defensive staff. |

Agreed about needing to make some changes sooner than later, we will see if the coaches agree eventually. |
Re: Game Day #4: ATL bounce back or Mariotta Revenge
Through 4 games, our stats (a little skewed because they don't account for tonight's game) are as follows:
Offense: Rush 2nd, Pass 24th Defense: Rush 16, Pass 28th JD5 coming back will undoubtedly help with our passing offense, and if we can sustain drives better, that will help our D stay off the field and should help our D overall. But there's a glaring weakness in the back end of our defense, and it simply isn't sustainable for a team that aspires to the playoffs. And our pass rush isn't terrible -- at 10 sacks, we're tied for 5th (although because several teams have 11, 12, and 13 sacks, we're actually 11th on the list). The real culprits seem like the CBs and safeties -- and it sure looked like it watching the last 3 games. |
Re: Game Day #4: ATL bounce back or Mariotta Revenge
Not looking forward to next week at all the way the D is playing. Watched every chargers game this season and they are good on both sides of the ball. We may get steamrolled or we may beat them like the giants, barely.
We may finish at the bottom with the giants this year if we dont turn thos ship around and fast. |
Re: Game Day #4: ATL bounce back or Mariotta Revenge
I'd like to see some of the younger LB's get in the game. Wagner reminds me of Fletcher when he was on his last legs. He just can't run anymore. Father time gets us all.

I want all the young guys more involved. Rotate Magee, Medrano, and Kaho in the game. Let's get some more speed on defense. It's getting about time to bench Lattimore too. Move Sainristil outside and put Igbinoghene in the slot. Throw the damn ball to Sinnott. We have turned him into John Bates Lite, even though he was drafted in the 2nd round for his athleticism. Get Lane some touches somehow. We are old and slow and refuse to use our younger/faster guys. |

Lions and Eagles ran for like 500 yards and he couldn't make any plays. They should have had someone in waiting to take over this year who can at least run and it more athletic. |
