Since Quinn took over the defense, the Cowboys rank fifth in points per game allowed and first in takeaways (93). This season the Cowboys are one of the best pass defenses in the league, ranking top-10 in yards allowed (fifth), touchdowns (10th), and interceptions (eighth)
For the last 2 years Dallas was fun as hell to watch on defense, high flying , hard hitting and creating TO's. That has not happened in DC in years... No we do not have Parsons or Diggs but Quinn will load up on defense in FA I bet. Remember we have 74M and a ton of high picks.
You could say the only weak spot he had on his defense in dallass was his linebackers, and that's obviously been a huge weakness for Washington...so let's see if HE will finally upgrade this position here. |
Re: Our New Head Coach - Dan Quinn
On its' face not a great cause for optimism - IIRC 28-3 wasn't the only time those Falcons teams blew big leads under Dan Quinn.
He's walking into a much worse situation here than with the Falcons too - he already had a prime Matt Ryan when he took that job. As others have said it really depends how he fills out his coaching staff. If they emphasize he's needed more for his leadership roles and he gets a couple young stud coordinators to call plays I'd be happy. But as of now it's wait and see - this looks like they went to their fall-back choice because BJ turned them down. |

Text from AFC Coach after Rivera was fired: "Quinn is THE best head coach candidate out there. Will not find a more authentic leader of men with a battle plan for victory. Period...Leader, organized, vision, communicator, ball coach." |
Dan Quinn in Dallas = NUMBER 1 DEFENSE during his tenure..
No hes not a flashy young OC but Lets wait and see what he can do and who he hires as OC.
And their defense was dreadful when he took over - 31st to 16th in his first year and top 5 thereafter. Let’s give the man a chance and Peters too. I was intrigued by Johnson but the guy was an OC for all of one season. No coach hire is a slam dunk; they all involve some risk. I agree that the coordinator decisions and the draft are now key. And free agency where we have some coin. This team may look way different come training camp (and should). We may also have guys like Fuller and Kurl more interested in staying with a respected defensive coach. I’m ok with this. Wanted Macdonald as my top choice, but so be it. @NickiJhabvala
Possible DC candidates with Quinn: *Joe Whitt Jr., Cowboys pass game coordinator *Joe Cullen, Chiefs D-line coach Chiefs d-line was lights out against the Ravens. Would be great hire IMO. |

The other weak spot was they couldn't play from behind. They had to be a front runner defense to succeed. Hopefully he finds a DC that can build a D like the Ravens this year. The way they single handedly kept Baltimore in that playoff game against that KC offense was amazing (minus the last play from scrimmage). |

Ravens run offense vs. Texans: 42 carries, 229yds. 5.5ypc 2 TDs Ravens run offense vs. Chiefs 16 carries, 81 yards, 5.1ypc, 0 TD Chiefs defense and their line made a difference. |

I did look up how KC defense played this year they were pretty good in total yards and points. Not so good at generating TO. There are definitely worse options out there so kicking the tires on this Cullen fella isn't too bad. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2023/opp.htm |

I do not like any hire from the Dallas Cowboys, period. Hated the Norv years even when they were winning. We don't need the stink of the star. Would have preferred belechek, vrabel, a college coach, hell, an online coach. I HATE DALLAS!

I've always wondered about that, too. Are we extending people in the background? I'll admit that I don't monitor all of the team's personnel moves. |

Spin it any way you like this is not what this team needed ..we shall see won't we .SMH. I'm not cutting this new ownership any slack !!
Honestly, I don't remember them saying that anyone in particular was their guy from the get go. Everyone in the media made all kinds of assumptions, but I just think they went through the process and found the guy they want. |
Everything you want to know about Quinn and why he makes a good hire.
He took a team which already had Ryan and Julio that had gone 4-12 and 6-10 the previous 2 seasons and had them in the Super Bowl that first year where Kyle killed him. He took over a Dallas defenses that was one of the worst in the league and made them one of the best. I wanted either of the 2 most mentioned guys. But let's not pretend we hired Jim Fassel here, this guy is good. |

LOL I guess it's better than making every assumption possible, and hating it for no good or justified reason. I really can't find any negatives with this hire. Especially, given what Josh Harris and Adam Peters said they were looking for in a head coach. |
Re: Our New Head Coach - Dan Quinn
Well part of my issue in this hire is all the NEGATIVITY about Quinn I read on this forum and to be fair other Washington forums .. so I guess I shouldn't pay much attention to what others think .. lesson learned

Re: Our New Head Coach - Dan Quinn
@NickiJhabvala
One possible name as OC: Klint Kubiak, currently the passing-game coordinator for the 49ers. Ties to Peters and Kyle Shanahan, who was Quinn's OC in Atlanta. |

Our New Head Coach - Dan Quinn
you still have the right to be disappointed
That goes for us or Peters. But at the end of the day I feel confident that Peters did exactly what he was supposed to do, whether it was his original plan or not. Now lets go rebuild the roster with all the tools we have right now. Set our sights on the future, a new stadium, God willing a new name, a re-energized fan base, and most importantly some fuckin W’s. It took 25 years for Snyder to burn it to the ground. It will not take 25 years to build it back but it probably won’t take one offseason either. |

I could not stand it when Norv came here. He signed a bunch of ex Cowboys, the worst being Alvin Harper. |

I think Kubiak would really be an outstanding hire.

I wish there wasn't 2 weeks between conference championships and Super Bowl. I would not be surprised if that's who it is. I guess we will likely know, if we still don't have an OC by the time the SB rolls around. |
I’m not gonna crush getting option C. But is it a win for Peters giving his 3rd option?
how do you know it was his 3rd option? I've been reading a lot of things saying the room (the committee) was split on Johnson. He was their original "A" prospect, but after his first interview some though he was not enough of a leader and needed more time. They also say McDonald was their top target after the initial first round of interviews, but that Quinn and Weaver were up near the top due to their leadership qualities that the team is looking for. Remember, the whole Peters press conference was around finding "a leader of men". If that is really what they were looking for, they found one of the best. |
Re: Our New Head Coach - Dan Quinn
I put "need to see the coordinators" but if there was a "like it" option I would have selected that. He clearly fits the definition that Peters is using as a leader or at least that is what the GM has been telling their mouth pieces the last three weeks. I feel pretty confident you know what you are getting with him, after being in the league as long as he has there are no surprises. I think his upside is a McCarthy level head coach which is fine I will take winning seasons. He even made it to and won a SB with the right QB. DQ made it to the SB with the right OC and QB so...

I didn’t know Quinn attended College at Salisbury State, on the way to Ocean City. Maybe he was a regular at the Bearded Clam bar in OC.

Simply because we could have hired him a couple weeks ago and if he was truly top option with other teams still looking for HC, then you hire him then. |
