Re: Commanders Free Agency Expectations
th depends on the money... how many other backup qbs have come in and won as many games the last two years? I'd say he is top 64, possibly top 32, so if it's not big money and he wants to be here as a backup, eh.

Re: Commanders Free Agency Expectations
I have mixed feelings about the Payne contract for a couple of reasons, (1) he doesn't interact much with the Dline team (I know it's not that significant but respect for each other is a big deal) and (2) this is more money than we gave to Allen and Allen is our #1 leader on the defense.
But at the same time, I'm glad to have two stud DTs on the team for next 3 years. |
Re: Commanders Free Agency Expectations
As long as Eric is the one who decides this - I'm fine with Heinicke coming back as a backup. We cannot deny the fact that he has that "it" factor which inspires the whole team every time he plays.

How many backups played behind starters that should have been the backups and even got a chance to come in and play at all? Lol. |
I'm not sold on this. You don't pay a guy that kind of money for 1 good year out of 5. It's not smart. If he plays like he did last year, it'll be a value, but his history says otherwise.
Payne had one good year? Dang NC you are a tough crowd. Lol |
Re: Commanders Free Agency Expectations
There are 22 non-ST starters. The goal is to have a good player at every position. Clearly no simple task. So when you do find a good one, you keep him if at all possible.

I agree. I like the player but don't like the deal. Would've preferred 2 years on the franchise tag. Hope I'm wrong but I suspect last year was the best we'll ever see from Payne. |

you do have the question of who on that line is making whom better... did he get 11 sacks because allen and others ate the double teams? etc obviously in a way everyone is helping everyone to some degree. |
Re: Commanders Free Agency Expectations
Locking up Payne surprised me, but I love the move. He's one of the top 5 players on the team, have to keep those guys. He's gotten better every year, he's durable, and will only be 26 at the start of the season.

1 great year and 4 very good ones. It's not like he came out of nowhere last year, he's been ascending since he was a rookie. |

Agree We always complain as a community we don't keep our own then when we do it is a bad move; seriously people I will say if CY ever lives up to his billing we probably won't be able to afford him considering the dollars we have invested in this DL. It is also a tell coupled with not picking up his 5th year that WAS doesn't believe much in him either; we shall see. Waste of a 2nd overall pic, shame. |
Re: Commanders Free Agency Expectations
I think they'll use the option on CY, and he'll battle with Sweat to see who gets locked up long term. Don't think they can keep them both.
|
Re: Commanders Free Agency Expectations
A dollar today is worth more than a dollar tomorrow. Keep who you can now and worry about the next guys down the road. Who knows what the situation will be a year from now. And every year teams just re-do contracts to create extra cap space. Glad Payne is here for the foreseeable future.

Yup and right now Sweat has the edge in that battle. I do think a trade could benefit both parties |

We don’t have any OL or QB’s to pay, it would be the equivalent of putting that money into those positions, they don’t to worry for at least a few years. Look at SF, they have lots of players at multiple positions making bank. Roullier, Samuel, Fuller, Thomas can be restructured or cut. |

exactly that is the nfl today either all your money goes to a elite qb or you spread it around and hope you get a serviceable rookie qb or vet. Philly and SF are in the spread it around camp (until Hurts needs to be paid) KC is in the we have the superstar QB camp |

Yes, but that doesn't stop him from holding out in year 4 or 5 for more money. The 10 years was for the team to be able to spread the guaranteed $$$ cap hit over more years lowering his cap number. smart move . . . for now, it will come back on them eventually. But how many super bowls will they win in the process? |

I'm curious if in a few years, Mahommes is making enough money from sponsorships and whatnot, that he'll be okay with his contract. Similarly to what happened with Brady and New England. |

Re: Commanders Free Agency Expectations
Ehhh, we always love to buy high and sell low. If we're going to trade him, let him play another year and drive that price up.
That being said, I don't want to trade him. :) |

I'm hoping he balls out this year and he makes us extend him. He's not our best football player, but he's our best athlete for his position and he is still (chase) young. |

Why the hell is Bostic still on the team?

He's from a long line of guys that just stick. He needs to change his last name to Mustard at least. Then we would have the most awesome name of a linebacker core (even tho neither would start) ever: Mustard and Mayo. |
