This O should have no problem getting 4 scores a game. What is really disconcerting about the D is the volume of big plays given up. That to me should be resolvable but keeps being an issue. |
Re: Lions postgame
JDR sucks. But Rivera keeps him around. Fire the disease and the symptom will leave. Rivera is a shitty HC. Plain and simple. JDR and Rivera jerk each other off. 2 old dinosaurs that have won a combined 0 Super Bowls as coaches. And they will retire with 0 too.
Who gives a shit, he still plays like a limp dick. Over throws receivers, holds on to the ball and sometimes is not aware of surroundings. Dotson, Samuel and McLaurin are making him look good.
I think Wentz is who he is. He isn't a pin point passer but he can also make some big plays which he did. But yeah the first half he held on the ball too long and took some bad sacks but the line was getting blown up. I think he is the least of our problems. Today he had no running game at all and the Lions d-line was just teeing off. Also Turner needs get out of shotgun every once in a while. He kept doing play action out of gun and no one was respecting that shit at all. |

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You don't see that too much in NFL games. Almost 200 yards is just pathetic. These guys just aren't that good. |

I'm not surprised they're this bad. They weren't any good last year and it's basically the same guys. Jacksonville missed numerous easy plays last week so this should not be a surprise at all. Lions scored 35 last week against the Eagles. What did you think they were going to do against us? Going to have to win games 35 to 31. |

But, but, Rivera said our LB room was good!!! |
Re: Lions postgame
If JDR is the coordinator next week, and he will be, it's just further proof that Rivera is a spineless bum. He just wants yes-men like Snyder does. Snyder controls Rivera then Rivera controls everyone else.

Re: Lions postgame
On the play where Swift scored it was 3rd and 15. Goff threw the ball in the flat, Swift fell down. Where are the defenders?? He fell down, got up and McCain was whiffed. There was no one else to make a play. If you hold them to 3 there it is 25 -15 in the 3rd. That play just make no sense at all. How do you let that happen on a 3rd and 15? I don't think I have seen that, where the back falls down, gets up and runs for a TD. To let that happen you are literally the worst defense in the NFL.

We will never win shit with Rivera. He was a nice little band-aid for Snyder to throw over the gaping wound, to try and cover his own ass. |
Re: Lions postgame
Things I would do this week:
Cut Jackson, Mayo, McCain, Trai Turner and Bostic Sign Blake Martinez, Erick Flowers and a veteran DL, play Castro-Fields and Holmes. |

Probably not someone I'd be looking to sign. There is a reason he isn't on a team. There is no way they're cutting Jackson. He makes too much. |

Until Snyder dies, this is what we will always be. And he's rich as fuck, he could live another 40 years. That piece of shit has a very good chance to out live most of us on this site. |
Re: Lions postgame
As I think we all suspected, Holcomb is not a MLB. We wanted to give the guy a chance to prove it but he is much better (relatively) playing outside.
I don't get the feeling that JDR is getting the personnel or freedom of scheme that he wants, but regardless it is the coaches job to get the guys he has working within their limits. I keep hearing his system is complex, obviously too complex for the players he has. He has more than enough experience to have realised that by now. Many of the best defences in the league have their share of low round draft picks and UDFA, but they have been coached to what their responsibilities are and well placed within their limited skill set to hold those responsibilities down so there are no gaping holes left to run through I have been avoiding watching the games live, life is too short and nerves too fragile, in hope that I could check out the result afterwards and be pleasantly surprised or at least reassured I didn't just waste another 3 hours of my life on this team. Getting hard to be enthused by them. |
Re: Lions postgame
I've never been an impatient "sack the coach" after a few games kind of guy. But I'm saying sack JDR now. It's not too late to turn this D into something competent, but JDR isn't going to get that done. If Rivera wants to keep his job, he has to see that this season rests on how the D plays, and probably his job rests on the same. He's improved the O dramatically already. With more high picks spent on the D in the last few years, why can't he fix that?

Agreed, that play drove me nuts. Another utterly bad angle and missed tackle by McCain... the man sucks, I don't know what I'm missing with him... |

If you make a mistake in drafting Davis you shouldn’t exacerbate it…but they have by square holing Holcomb Sign a real MLB Martinez…cut Mayo and let Davis and Holcomb play the other LB spots. |
Re: Lions postgame
When kurl comes back McCain should shit his ass down somewhere. That dude is so bad. I only got to see the 4th Qtr yesterday and it was enough to see why we lost.
Where was our DL??? We can’t stop the run or the pass. This is a major issue and it’s not going to be fixed unless JDR is gone |

Studs and Duds from game. Hard to argue with the list and the notes.

Ever since Ron decided to play GM and got rid of Kyle Smith and brought his retreads. we’ve gotten rid of our DL line depth for subpar players |
Re: Lions postgame
Toohill and Wise were injured, so now we have 0 depth, not that gaving the depth did much for us
What? Wise was our no. 3 DT and Toothill is effective for the limited snaps he gets (he had 2 pressures last week in limited snaps) Wow ... DT depth is a problem. Allen playing hurt and Wise NEEDS to be ready vs Eagles. ------------------ Run D - on most runs, there are O lineman getting quickly to the second level and just attaching themselves and locking down the LB, particularly Holcomb. DT needs to keep our LBs clean but our LBs need to shed some blocks and make some plays. If Holcomb isnt getting blanketed with a block he is over pursuing and taking himself away from the attack. Last year, 3rd down pass coverage w Bostic was the achillies heel. 2 games this year, its the run D. 191 yards when their best guy Swift was limited. When you knew they were going to come in and establish the run. When you had all week to come up with a game plan. Holcomb isnt going anywhere .. we didnt add or train another guy to be the green dot. Mayo/bostic arent answers. LB play .... everyone questioned it going into the season, so far its the biggest issue. |
Re: Lions postgame
DL - we entered this season with Allen, Payne, Mathis and Wise. Thats 2 1st rounders, 2nd R and Wise who I think is a really really good 4th DT.
I cant get mad at the FO for going with those 4. That is a strong unit without a hint of injury going into the season. What are we going to do, carry 5 or 6 DT? mathis out, Allen hurt, Wise knocked out of game ... |
Re: Lions postgame
Holcomb is a backup linebacker on a good defense. On our sorry ass trashcan defense, he is our "best" linebacker. This defense stinks. We need another 2 DB's and another 2 LB's before this defense will ever be shit. And they all need to be coached by someone other than JDR.

Yeah man, we will give up a SHIT TON of yards and points this yr.. Chase Young can't fix these problems and hell he may not even be fully back for a while anyway.. The Eagles game could get UGLY fast |

I think the heat needs to be on JDR. He's been DC for 3 years and the same issues are happening. No team can have all-pros at every position, and I feel it is up to him to make this bunch work. I honestly don't think the issues are stemming purely from lack of talent, but more from coaching deficiencies. |
Re: Lions postgame
Holcomb, Jackson, Rivera , JDR - all stink.
Our offensive line is trash too. This team isn’t winning more than 5 games. |
Re: Lions postgame
I think JDR gets time to try some adjustments and see if he can turn this around.
He did figure out (kinda) the 3rd and long issue after 4 or so weeks last season. Run D .. was not on my list of anticipated issues entering this season. Run D and Terry have been our only 2 consistent strong features past couple years. |

Ben Standig said he heard from the Lions' beat guy that the Lions players including St. Brown told him they had a really easy beat on the defense. They could see on tape there were certain offensive formations that confused the defenders among them they were confident that the fly sweep would work on this defense. And St. Brown said he could see when he had the ball on the sweep thst no one recognized on the defense he had the ball until it was too late. I recently heard from someone on one our message boards that Jay Gruden once said (paraphrased), "Del Rio is one of the easiest defensive coordinators to scheme against. He doesn't try to trick you." |

Cosmi seems to be better at pass pro than getting out on the run. Flowers seemed like a better run blocker than protection guy. I think it’s personal and a decision to regard pass protection over run blocking. I dunno, just a thought. The defense needs Chase Young back, we need a playmaker out there to help. |
