Re: Commanders free agency thread
Should be a nice lateral move/upgrade. Does Schweizer man the other spot? I'm getting concerned about depth, but maybe you take someone in the draft.

The Washington #Commanders are expected to sign former #Jaguars and #Panthers guard Andrew Norwell , source said. They are close on a deal. He fills a big void on the offensive line.
Some reports are stating it's done. Basically trading Scherff for Norwell. At least this guy wants to be here. There is smoke about Mathieu signing. Still want a mlb big time. |

I’m thinking we pencil in Wes Schweitzer who has earned it to start the other side. I think we should draft a Guard for depth Also, what’s up with our swing O Tackle position? Lucas was big there last year, we will need someone there as well. |
Re: Commanders free agency thread
Wagner is the top MLB option, but here's still a bunch of other MLBs out there that would be an instant upgrade. Gotta think they are pursuing one or two of those guys. AJ Johnson is solid if he's healthy - coming off a torn pec.

It better be or that is evidence we still have idiots in charge. |
Re: Commanders free agency thread
I think there's a good chance Wagner goes to Dallas and reunites with Quinn.
I wouldn't mind Vander Esch, I know there's the health thing, but no question he's a baller, and he's only 26 |

It's not necessarily the amount of money a lot of times, but how it is distributed and how does it affect this year's cap. |

Announce Honey Badger please

Re: Commanders free agency thread
Announce Honey Badger please
He's a leader and a playmaker. Think he would demand accountability in the secondary and the entire defense. Salivating at the thought of signing Mathieu and Wagner both. Not expecting it but one can dream.

I think they just like the player more too. Norwell was all pro in 2017. |

Admittedly I havent seen a lot of Norwell's play but Cooley was in love with him when he was a FA a few years ago, he was they top G before going to Jags. This is playing out nicely. If they can address MLB and add a decent swing tackle a la Lucas, Id feel pretty good. |
Re: Commanders free agency thread
Keim says it's done
Free agent G Andrew Norwell will be at Washington's facility this morning. He has agreed to the deal, per source. |

I thought we had our two safeties in McCain and Curl. |

That's what I meant - wonder if it's less than what Flowers' cap hit was this year. |
Re: Commanders free agency thread
I think they just like the player more too. Norwell was all pro in 2017.
Problem is if he is as or more expensive than Flowers was we just switched a younger player that played well for us for an older player that may be better but has to be integrated into our line and costs us a comp pick. If he costs less then I can see the utility. |

McCain could be the nickel corner or buffalo nickel |

Honey Badger also has position flexibility. I think HB would be a good addition, but we need a MLB. |
Re: Commanders free agency thread
LVE was a guy I had forgotten about, would be a good upgrade at MLB (mind you that is a very low bar)
|
Re: Commanders free agency thread
Norwell is a much better pass pro blocker than run blk.. In fact he has never had a Pass Blk grade under 70.. Pretty damn good
17 sacks given up in 4,775 snaps... |
Re: Commanders free agency thread
how about jayon brown titans free agent and is a good three down MLB, we should go after him now just turned 27
|

Couple of things with him...I don't believe we would pay what he wants, and I don't think he'd want to come here anyway...he wants to be on a Super Bowl bound team. Plus...what is the reason that no team ever gives him a second contract? |
Re: Commanders free agency thread
McKissic and Norwell are welcome moves. Hearing that there is some smoke on a deal with Mathieu is very encouraging. He would be an outstanding addition. So now my dream FA class is starting to come into focus. If, somehow, we could add Mathieu and Wagner to our defense we would be bad-ass on D. I'm starting to get excited now.

Re: Commanders free agency thread
Leno, Norwell, Roullier, Schweitzer, and Cosmi is a legit starting 5.
But we still need to get a legit backup T and G. Would be nice to bring Lucas back. |

Ron sure loves to get those former Panters.

Yes, he's the only coach that signs his former players. |

Haven't we exhausted this notion, that it's somehow a bad idea to bring on players and coaches that you are familiar with? Feel like we've been having this discussion for at least two years.

Commanders free agency thread
As it stands
LB G S Dline depth Oline depth (both tackle spots namely) WR In that order. WR could be higher if I knew Curtis Blow wasn’t gonna be healthy again but im thinking he should be. Hopefully we can address all of that between the draft and free agency. About 8 players. Devin Lloyd, and Kyle Hamilton are the two guys Im hoping are there at 11. Either would solve a huge problem. |

Sure it's fine but it's not like Ron has brought in any world beaters. I'd rather him bring in good durable players over players he's familiar with. |
Re: Commanders free agency thread
I think he's done both.

Absolutely. We need either Milne, AGG, Brown, or Sims to have a bust out year, and for Samuel to stay healthy. Than WR is set. I know we need to have a plan B if it doesn’t but if they believe in those guys and think Samuel is a go than why take a wr at 11? |

I also like Chad Muma and Troy Anderson in the second or third, respectively. |

This draft is loaded with big and fast WR's throughout. We can improve that position over the backup players we have now by drafting one early or late, not necessarily at 11. |
