Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
Rumors are that the Redskins wanted Amari Cooper and were “all in” to sign him at $25 mill/yr. He just resigned at $20 mil /yr with Dallas. If true this was to be THE BIG signing for this FA period. This is why they were outbid for TE Hooper and why they went for the bargain basement signing of Kendall Fuller at CB.
So our real biggest “signing” is Scherff with the franchise tag at $16 mill. The Bostic resigning was expected and the OL Guard signed is a backup to Martin. Flowers is gone to Miami for $10 mill yr versus our offer of $8 mill. I’m really surprised they didn’t go for Hooper. We have NOTHING at TE and the TE draft pool is small. The TE FA left may be more economical but they aren’t that good either. Unless we get a second rounder for Trent, then we’ll only have a third round pick to draft for a TE. The best TE’s will be gone in the draft also unless Kyle Smith finds a gem in the depths of the draft or UDFA. Not sure how we’re going to fix the TE hole now unless we take Ebron or something. He’s just average at best. I don’t know if the Cooper story is true. But it explains why the Redskins entry into FA has been pretty lame so far. Getting Cooper would have made our WR corps ELITE. Getting an average TE in FA or the draft wouldn’t have mattered because DC would be trying to defense against the MacLaurin/Cooper/Sims dynamo I wonder what our “Plan B” will be in FA. We’ve scrimped so far in FA and have lots of cap money available. Are they going to spend it or let it sit there? We need LB, S and an answer at OT. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You know, I know I may be the minority on this, but I'm quite glad we didn't sign Cooper to a massive contract. He's definitely very good, but to me he's not truly elite, anyway not to the level of the likes of Julio Jones, Michael Thomas, DeAndre Hopkins etc... For me that kind of big money splashy move should warrant a true WOW factor playmaker, which I don't see Cooper as. So sure you want to bulk that receiving corps up, but I like what we have, I hope we can find some young talent in the draft, and FA isn't over, I wouldn't hate bringing Robby Anderson, Sanders or Funchess on a cheaper contract. |

Skins fans on twitter are all mad about a slow FA period.. I'm glad they didn't break the bank on Bradberry or Flowers. I did want Cooper but whatever. Robby Anderson would be a solid pick-up and cheaper.

Also:
Lost Ereck Flowers to Miami. had offered him around 8.5 per; signed for 10 Lost on Amari Cooper. Offer around 22 per; stayed in Dallas for 20. Skins really wanted Did not pursue Hooper/Bradberry/Jones. not surprised at 1st 2; mild by 3rd, but $ too high on all for yield Keim |

Blake Martinez LB - GB Breeland - Never wanted to get rid of him Damarious Randall S - CLE Tre Boston S - CAR Demarcus Robinson WR -KC Robby Anderson WR - Jets Germain Ifedi, RT, Seahawks |

To me that dude just feels like another Paul Richardson. Not as much of an injury history but not sure he fits the mold of tough players that Rivera is looking for. |
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
The Cooper signing just shows players don't want come here. Hopefully RR can change that culture.
I had Cooper on my FF team last year; Dallas at the end of the season basically stopped going to him and he was all pissey. Surprised he went back. Paying him as the highest paid WR in the league would have been dumb; Cooper saved us from yourselves. |

Anderson too inconsistent for my taste at WR....Id rather go Sanders on a 1 year. Demarcus Robinson is interesting but too much of an unknown for a big deal. Randall signed with Carolina last night, Boston isn't coming back, but I would gladly take him here. I don't want to sign Right Tackles to play Left tackle. |
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
Also lets keep in mind, this team is a far cry from righting the ship with one FA and Draft class; its going to take some time.

The money was close on Cooper, we offered $22M and he stayed in Dallas for $20M. It's not as if he turned down a mega offer. |

Never could quite understand that with all of the complicated adjustments to cap figures , why cant the NFL level the playing field with respect to cap space related to local taxes... gives some teams a massive advantage

Well how far can you go with that really? Some cities will always have an advantage when it comes to cost of living, weather, schools, etc. The Patriots play in Taxachusetts so obviously that hasn't hurt them. |
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
Kendall Fuller - plug him right back in slot. If they dont add anyone else I guess that means we hope Dunbar reports and Moreau is CB2. if our window opening is 2022, that gives us this and next offseason to find our legit CB1 and CB2.
He should offset the Flowers comp pick. https://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=329943&page=3 KC fans seems to think he was underpaid, appreciated his services. Hooper - I would have paid 4/44. But ... if this year is a "get your feet wet" year and we really are realistically looking at next year 2022 as our competition window then we have some time to find our 3 down TE. But man ... Hooper seemingly checked all the boxes. Wes Schweitzer - sounds like hes our version of Bergstrom. Plays all over the line, ideal as depth guy but is a great locker room guy. Honestly Id rather have this guy for his contract vs Flowers at 10M AAV. https://boards.atlantafalcons.com/topic/4078117-schweitzer-to-the-redskins/ |

Fuller back is cool, not as high in him as most but he's a good #3

Slot Corner who in some packages could be a safety. Fuller is a playmaker tho. I like the Schweitzer signing because it was a sign of a solid plan if they lost Flowers. |
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
Hooper didn't check all boxes, he's just best of a mediocre crop. Mediocre blocker, which we've lacked at TE for years. Draft is light on TEs so maybe we're seeing whether we coukd get Hunter or Njoku in a swap with TW?
Hope we go after Boston at least. Looks like a good fit. |

The Patriots play in Taxachusetts so obviously that hasn't hurt them.
Yeah I see your point, but I think there are some fairly cut and dried differences like state taxes which could be accounted for. In the end it depends on where the player wants to go , but we see so often that money talks and players often go for the highest offer |

Paying him as the highest paid WR in the league would have been dumb; Cooper saved us from yourselves.
What I heard is that Washington drove up the cost of Cooper for Dallas. Cooper also wanted to stay in Dallas. Kind of a win for us costing Dallas cap money. “I love being a Dallas Cowboy,” Cooper said in March during an appearance on 105.3 The Fan. “I think about it almost every day. Just the aura of being a Dallas Cowboy, you can’t beat it. I want to be a Dallas Cowboy for life. . . I do, I mean that whole-heartedly. I love Dallas. Just to have the opportunity to play on a different team, you see the changes and stuff like that. I feel like it's home. I feel like I want to live there for a long time." |
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
You can keep Cooper. Don't want him. I just remember that Eagles game at the end of the season. Their season is on the line and he's out there dropping passes and running weak ass routes. I see why Gruden didn't want him. When you need him to be a pitbull he turns into a chihuahua.

Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020

Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
The Cooper signing just shows players don't want come here. Hopefully RR can change that culture.
A lot of people are saying this, but it completely ignores the tax implications. The skins reportedly offered Cooper $110 million; however, cooper would have had to pay 6% state income taxes here. There are no state income taxes in Texas, so its pretty much a wash. Cooper made it clear he wanted to stay in Dallas. He and Dak have a good relationship. Dallas traded to acquire him when he had a lot of doubters. So there is some loyalty there. If he had chosen to leave Dallas, sell his home, leave his friends, relocate his family, to end up netting, after taxes, slightly more to play for a division rival, it would have been a huge F. U. to Dallas. So I really don't think Cooper's decision is even a remotely an indictment that players don't want to come here. |
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
Fact remains Dallas are closer to competing right now, thats why Cooper , and Hooper for that matter, would likely have better options

I encourage you to look at Daks numbers before Cooper arrived and compare them to his numbers after Cooper arrived. Cowboys were in the bottom third of the league in 3rd down conversions. After Amari Cooper arrived, Dallas vaulted to one of the best teams at converting 3rd down. Cooper doesn't need to touch the ball to make a difference. Cooper is a young QBs best weapon. My thinking Redskins pursuit of Cooper was more about Haskins than anything. Trying to surround him with premier talent. |

It is what it is, good for Dallas |
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
We already have a legit WR1. Cooper is good but I don't think you need to spend 20+ on a big name free agent. Much rather of thrown 12 million a year at Hooper and still had 10 million for other players.
I'm also higher on Harmon than most. I think by next year (2021) he is a legit WR2. A vet like Sanders to me makes perfect sense. Or a later round draft pick after Chase. |
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
yea i'm not about the price tag on cooper. his production is able to be replicated for a cheaper price
