Re: Redskins trade for Ha Ha Clinton-Dix
This is my concern. Assuming we plan to resign Clinton-Dix, I wonder if it means we will be ready to move on from Norman. Dunbar is on extremely team-friendly contract and all other CBs are on rookie deals so I think we can afford to resign both Dix and DJ when it comes to that.
I'm definitely surprised by this move but I like it.
I don't think Norman stays after this season. I'd like him to, with a pay cut, but I don't see it. |

Re: Redskins trade for Ha Ha Clinton-Dix
Although I still like the trade, a lot, it appears Green Bay was not expecting more than a 4th for him if he left in free agency next year. Also, they had all sorts of concerns about his play and locker room attitude.
Clinton-Dix was far from fine a year ago. Clinton Dix finished second on the Packers with 13 missed tackles after missing just three in 2016. He was also a disappointing fifth among Green Bay’s six safeties in tackles per snap with one every 12.2. Clinton-Dix was asked to wear the defensive helmet headset and communicate calls to his teammates when fellow safety Morgan Burnett missed a Week 7 game against New Orleans. That experiment was a disaster as the Packers had communication breakdowns throughout the game. Perhaps most galling, though, was Clinton-Dix’s performance in the regular season finale at Detroit. At best, Clinton-Dix’s effort was half-hearted in a game that had no playoff implications. At worst, Clinton-Dix could be accused of quitting on his team and simply trying to avoid injury.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/robreischel/2018/06/12/ha-ha-clinton-dix-returns-for-make-or-break-year-in-green-bay/#72b0731c6c17
Even through all of that, Clinton-Dix had an opportunity to anchor the position. Unfortunately, he’s been the biggest mess of them all. Clinton-Dix, who recently said he doesn’t think he’ll be back in Green Bay next season, has been in a downward spiral over the past two seasons. He consistently plays out of control, doesn’t want to tackle anybody and is often out of position in pass coverage which leads to wide open players in the end zone. On Monday, Clinton Dix had this to say about his time in Green Bay: “Right now, I’m playing each and every gam like it’s my last. I don’t think I’m going to be here next year. That’s how I look at it. I just (have to) be honest with myself. You’ve got to play it game-by-game. Whether we’re losing by 60 points, you’ve got to go out there and perform. This is my biggest interview of my career.” That type of individual mindset is absolutely horrible for the locker room and something the Packers tried to get rid of when they traded Damarius Randall in the offseason. With free agency obviously on the forefront of Clinton-Dix’ mind, the Packers should make the move first and trade him.
https://dairylandexpress.com/2018/10/10/green-bay-packers-trade-ha-ha-clinton-dix-deadline/ On the other hand, Dix's words don't reflect the dissatisfaction that GBay seemed to have with him:
“I like [defensive coordinator] Mike Pettine a lot. He’s given me a chance to fly around and make plays,” Clinton-Dix said. “When guys are doing what they’re asked to do, we don’t look too bad out there. There are little mistakes we make, but other that, we’re all having fun out there and once we all get in a rhythm and start catching interceptions, it’s only going to bring us together. I’m actually having fun — regardless of what the record says — because of the defense and the way it is right now. We’re going to get better. Once we get rolling, we’re going to be hard to stop, if you ask me.”
https://www.profootballrumors.com/2018/10/packers-ha-ha-clinton-dix I think, when he gets into the locker room with DJS and the 'Bama boys, he will fit in just fine. I still think, if they use him right, he and DJS could be real ballhawks. However, given the communication concerns already existing in the secondary, it is important that he plays well with others. |
Re: Redskins trade for Ha Ha Clinton-Dix
I've never really a fan of trading for a guy mid season. Is Dix really going to make a serious impact on our defense coming in mid season? I've seen Dix struggle here and there when watching Packer games. The fact that they gave up on him mid season tells you something. They didn't feel like they could resign him, or didn't think he was worth it. Also, and this is just my .2, I don't agree with investing a lot of $ in the safety position. I'll take the wait and see approach.

We’re gonna have a legion of boom.

Re: Redskins trade for Ha Ha Clinton-Dix
We gave the Packers the Dix on this trade.
A 4th round pick in a draft we have extra picks for another legit Bama Boy. Its a fucking win even it he leaves after the year. We would recoup a comp pick the next year and I'm ready to keep this 2018 train rollin' down the line. |

Did not realize it but Dix is only 25 years old.

He is VERY good in coverage for a safety though. And seems to be an on-field leader, although I had heard whispers that he isn't great in the locker room. My main concern is the locker room stuff. I definitely think he'll be a good player on the field, and I'm absolutely certain he'll be better than Nicholson. |

Don't like weak tackling from the last line of defense, the FS, especially with swearinger playing up so much. Also don't like locker room issues. No way would I extend someone like this before seeing how he synchs a month from now. Coverage without tackling does not work well in a 1 high defense which would be ideal for swearinger. Is it a good deal? We won't know until Dec |

This is a solid move. Dix and DJS?? When was the last time we had a safety combo like that?? Seriously, Norman, Dix, DJS and Dunbar are a solid group. Maybe not legion of boom solid, but damn solid nonetheless.
Area 51. This is a fantastic pickup. Perfect timing too with Matty Ice coming to town. |
Re: Redskins trade for Ha Ha Clinton-Dix
You sign Dix and let Swearinger walk. I'm not sure DJ is as good as he is if our DL isn't as beastly as they are. I truly believe our DL is covering up some weakness in our secondary.
Yes our front 7 is nasty but DJS has been an absolute ball hawk. With or without a good front 7 he has an uncanny nack of being around the ball.... |
Re: Redskins trade for Ha Ha Clinton-Dix
Love the move. not as worried about the leadership aspect. Yes Swearinger is a vocal focus, but in my opinion Jonathan Allen is the leader of the defense, watch the post game interviews this year. He was pissed after the giants game for sure. He is the guy that keeps the team on task. It might be good for Dix to be the not leader.

I figured there must be some minuses to HaHa for the Packers to give up on him. Really great he is excellent in coverage...that is awesome and very important. Shitty tackling on the other hand is a problem. Bad Tackling can sometimes be fixed. Bad mechanics or angle is fixable. I hope it is not lack of toughness or injuries, that is more difficult to overcome and sometimes cannot be corrected. I hope he can correct it. For me tackling for a defensive players is critically important and the best safety's are excellent tacklers. |
I don't think we trade if we don't have an extension plan in place.
Doesn't seem the new skins way of doing things (i'm ok with that)
There is no chance of a contract extension plan in place. They are renting Dix for 9 or 10 games for a 4th round pick. However, they could get a late 4th round compensatory pick back in the 2020 draft. I doubt they re-sign him. If he has a great year he will be too expensive, if not then I am not interested in signing him. |
Re: Redskins trade for Ha Ha Clinton-Dix
Get rid of DJ. Most certainly not. Dude is beasting and is a team leader. Rather keep him, rent dix, and get the comp pick if we can't sign him.

This works ... I like the fact he was cheap to get, comes with a compensatory pick if we can't sign him ... and basically gives us options should Ha Ha ball out. I am hoping that his Alabama roots, helps him rediscover his passion for tackling, and cures whatever BS locker room attitude he was showing in Green Bay. |
Re: Redskins trade for Ha Ha Clinton-Dix
Talk about unexpectedly pleasant news to hear.
If we get this graded-87 from PFF Clinton-Dix a 4th rounder will be a steal, especially knowing we are getting at least a 3rd round comp pick for Cousins next year. I don't know how much of an impact he'll make so soon as I'm sure it will take some time for him to learn, but count me as someone unimpressed with Montae Nicholson so far. |
Re: Redskins trade for Ha Ha Clinton-Dix
Tape on HA HA is good from a standpoint that he doesn't come up in run d often but hes very good in coverage and doesn't make mistakes. Just finished every snap from the Rams game, he will add that playmaking that Montae lacks just yet.

We have 3 starters for 2 positions. Definition of depth. |
Re: Redskins trade for Ha Ha Clinton-Dix
Not sure I agree with giving up a fourth round pick for a guy we keep for the rest of this season and he moves on.. hopefully he plays well and figures into the future. We have a championship defense in the making and hopefully Smith can start clicking with his receivers... I will have to say Gruden has impressed me last few games with play calling! He is making the best out of an offense that has been struggling with the pass.. maybe his best coaching so far . Could it be we are turning the corner ?? Hope so!

Re: Redskins trade for Ha Ha Clinton-Dix
Love it. We needed it and I'm OK giving up a 4th with a possible 2020 compensatory pick if we don't sign him.
Dude is going to have to find a new number though |
Re: Redskins trade for Ha Ha Clinton-Dix
I like this acquisition....another stud defender from Alabama.
|
Re: Redskins trade for Ha Ha Clinton-Dix
Love the move. The fact that he's likely to sign a big contract next year, thus giving us a compensatory pick makes it a 0 risk high reward move.
Reading you guys really made me think this is a 9 games rental: Montae was playing lights out last year, but this year he's playing scared IMO. So get a proven veteran in there, just before playing one of the best aerial attack in the league, let him walk next year, get the pick, keep drafting well, and hope Montae is back to being his old self! |
Re: Redskins trade for Ha Ha Clinton-Dix
So think about the way the compensatory pick formula works because this is bloody brilliant. By trading a 4th rounder the Redskins acquire a player on his rookie deal, expiring this offseason. We could take a crack at resigning him. If we decide not to though, and he gets a big deal in free agency, then it helps us in the compensatory pick formula.
Depending who we sign in the same offseason, and depending how much Ha Ha signs for elsewhere, we could end up getting a 4th rounder coming back to us in 2020, just for letting him go in free agency. It's really a no-downside play. Green Bay gets a 4th rounder in 2019 instead of in 2020 (compensatory if they didn't resign him). |
Re: Redskins trade for Ha Ha Clinton-Dix
If he comes in and helps lead us to a playoff win or so , I would not rule out the possibility of keeping him and DJ both.
|
Re: Redskins trade for Ha Ha Clinton-Dix
I like the trade but I think it is more important than we realize. To me, it shows Jay you better win this year.

Re: Redskins trade for Ha Ha Clinton-Dix
According to Keim, Nicholson is injured and Redskins aren't sure how severe it is. Redskins wanted good back up plan so they got Dix. Smart move..

Makes more sense now, also John Clayton said this morning that GB decided to part ways mainly due to the fact that he is a FA after this season and they were not going to sign him Long term. Packers are another franchise like the Steelers, they don't spend big $ often. |

Fire is an understatement...Mahomes is stealing all the QB headlines and rightfully so...But Matt Ryan is carrying that offense and poor defense. His receivers are the most talented group we've seen all year too...don't sleep on their TE Hooper too. |
I am kind of shocked at the poor tackling technique I often see in NFL games, this isn't a recent phenomena, but didn't seem to happen back in the day. These are NFL professionals doing things that would get a High School kid extra laps at the next practice and a butt chewing during the game. Don't know if it is the limited game speed full contact in practice, subliminal fear of drawing a flag or more concern with doing something that gets the player on Sportscenter than executing a text book tackle. |
