I knew Murphy was good from the eye test, didn't think he was that good. Really surprised.

Re: In Season Redskins Roster Grades

From PFF yesterday after the game:

Trent Williams earning All-Pro billing

Trent Williams has consistently graded amongst the league’s top tackles, but has always been somewhat overlooked due to the proximity of elite talents like Jason Peters and Tyron Smith. Should this form persist, however, Williams’ exploits will be hard to ignore. He gave up only one hurry on 41 dropbacks, and facilitated a number of long runs with cutoff blocks on the backside of Washington’s trademark outside zone. Williams’ athleticism makes him a match for any linebacker at the second level, and his power ensures he’s rarely beat once in position. Rarely does a tackle inflict fear in opposing defenses, but Williams is a special player.

With the exception of 96-99, and since 1981, we have had some kick ass left tackles:

1981 - 88 Joe Jacoby (Four Pro-Bowls, Two All-Pro)

1989 - 95 Jim Lachey 89-95 (w/ Skins - Two Pro-Bowls, Two All-Pro)

1996 - 99 [Ed Simmons/Shar Pourdanesh/Tony Drake/Andy Heck]

2000 - 09 Chris Samuels (Six Pro Bowls, One All-Pro)

2010 - ?? Trent Williams (Four Pro-Bowls).

That's a pretty impressive run.

According to Wikipedia, Tre' Johnson is now a history teacher and coach at an upscale private school in Bethesda, MD. Just a random FYI. He was one of those guys who would've fit right in with the Hogs.

Shar Pourdanesh - still the only Iranian American NFL player.

Does anybody know why Duke Ihenacho is not playing more. On ESPN980 they briefly discussed his lack of playing time. They went as far as implying there is more to it than on the filed issues.

In Omaha, I do not hear any Redskins rumors.

Also, does anybody know where SmootSmack is at? I haven't seen a post from him in months.

Pro Football Focus provides metrics of just about everything that happens on the football field, including offensive line play. The Redskins rank No. 3 in pass blocking, and No. 6 in run blocking. While those numbers stand out, it's more important what the players themselves think.

Brandon Scherff isn't just blocking defensive linemen. He's destroying them | CSN Mid-Atlantic

Humiliating one defender wasn't enough for Scherff, so he also decided to grab Fletcher Cox — one of the NFL's best interior players — and shove him to the ground before Cox got within the same county as Kirk Cousins

WOW

Long getting some good reviews at center as well. I thought I saw him get pushed around a lot but the guys who actually break down tape giving him good grades.

He was going against Cox and Logan both 300+lbs as big as him. If it was Lichtensteiger he would have been run over. Great job by Long hanging in there.

Long is very strong. Against the Eagles, I saw him help double team a DT simply by holding him off with one arm while looking for someone else to block. He is really coming along at C.

Been awhile, let's update per football focus:

Cousins 9th highest rated QB

WR : Pierre Garçon 8th highest rated

TE: Jordan Reed 6th highest rated

Tackle: Trent highest rated tackle, Morgan Moses 17th

Guard: Schreff 20th ranked

Center: Long 21st

CB: Norman 20th

LB: Mason Foster 14th

Interior DLine: Chris baker 14th

We got some talent on the roster, building the right way.

Are they saying there are 19 better Guards better than Schreff and 20 better Centers?

Guard: Schreff 20th ranked

Center: Long 21st

Not sure how great the content of this article is, but the idea is a good one.
To better identify and watch the NFL draftable players playing in the upcoming college bowl games.
Might give some reason to watch a otherwise meaningless bowl game, when you do not have a team in the game.

The players I like so far that the Redskins can probably get;

Landry OLB/DE Boston College

Thomas DL Stanford .... except for the 3 off-sides today

I've seen guy play a couple times and I've come away impressed:

Tennessee DE Derek Barnett — An All-America candidate, Barnett has put together a tremendous season and endeared himself to NFL scouts with a more polished, all-around game. His production suggests he should be drafted not too far after possible No. 1 overall pick Myles Garrett, but Barnett isn’t considered to be in Garrett’s athletic area code. Still, with another big game in this bowl Barnett could put a stamp on a terrific college career and be projected as a top-20 selection in the spring

These are the type of guys I would want us to draft:

Michigan DL Taco Charlton — A favorite in the scouting community, Charlton is a power end who also can slide inside with his big frame and project to multiple fronts in the NFL. After a slow start following an injury in the season opener, he began to dominate regularly as the conference season wore on. We think when it’s all said and done, Charlton will end up a first-round pick. The tape reveals a consistently disruptive, impactful edge player.

Florida DT Caleb Brantley — The Gators have three defensive backs who could be drafted, but we’re looking up front at Brantley, one of our favorite players to watch this season. In the mold of the undersized 3-technique that’s becoming more appreciated around the NFL, Brantley is a quick penetrator with low mileage thanks to the Gators’ deep DL rotation. We really like him (and underrated run stopper Joey Ivie) and think he has a chance to be a top-25 pick and at worst an early second-rounder. This Iowa O-line will be a nice test for this front.
