Re: How to fix the Skins' Defense
Seattle, Denver, and Baltimore have had the defense carry the team.
Our defense has been bad all seaon. The early stats were fools gold. The only good offense we played our first few games, the vagiants, shredded our D. Fire our DC. If we are going to stay 3-4, getting a dominant NT should be our highest priority after QB.
So are you saying that we have the same talent on defense as these teams? Because we don't. |
Re: How to fix the Skins' Defense
I think we as fans drank the cool aid after the first few weeks. It's a good defense when we can dominate the clock but that doesn't happen anymore due to the run game being shut down.
So are you saying that we have the same talent on defense as these teams? Because we don't.
No, we would be an average defense if we had good coaching. Instead the defense is terrible. But the idea that a defense can't do anything when the offense struggles, is mistaken.

Re: How to fix the Skins' Defense
The D hasn't been terrible. We're middle of the pack in terms of points given up per game, 17th overall. Last year we were 29th, that's terrible.
Maybe we should be looking a little more closely at the offense that has regressed from 26th overall last year to 28th this year in points per game. Hmm. |

Re: How to fix the Skins' Defense
Well, looks like more PT for Compton: Will Compton Expected To 'Play A Lot' Against Saints
It would be better if this were at Riley's expense, and not Robinson's given how much Riley has really regressed (from being average). One thing I have wondered about is Martrell Spaight. He went on IR in the preseason for a concussion, which seems odd to me. I know he wasn't likely to get much time this year, and perhaps they were concerned he'd be poached off of the practice squad, but I recall that at least Gruden gushed about him early on and said he might be considered a steal in our draft. Goodness knows we need LB help, including on special teams. Man, at one point, we thought LBs would be a strength of the team -- seems like a lifetime (and several injuries) ago. |

All the scouting reports said he is/was a killer bookworm, the perfect combo for ILB. |
Re: How to fix the Skins' Defense
We really need to add a volume tackler at ilb in the offseason. I hate to bring up a loud mouth turd, but we need a London fletcher type back there. There are several first round talented lb coming out in the draft.

Re: How to fix the Skins' Defense
Why don't people like Keenan Robinson? I mean the guy's not a stud by any stretch of the imagination, but I think he's a solid guy.
He just has no help at the LB position, Riley has been terrible, Kerrigan has fallen off and Murphy seems like a ghost most of the time. You stick two solid guys back there, one at ILB and one at OLB and I think that LB core gets worlds better. |
Re: How to fix the Skins' Defense
Love the kid. Hope he'll be in the B & G for a long time.....

Jay Gruden has been talking Compton up a lot lately |
Re: How to fix the Skins' Defense
Need OLBs like crazy, probably biggest need in offseason.
