If they ever really HAD to change the name we could just be the Skins. DC Skins.

Darrell Green does not support Redskin name change
We stopped one, because a) it was already several pages long b) it was taking a stupid/dangerous turn c) there was no new news.
Dan Snyder's letter is new news so it should have been started as a new thread, in my opinion, instead of bumping this one. But it's fine here. Better than in the Dallas Week thread. But I don't know what you mean about shutting down and starting various name change threads.
I could have started a new thread i suppose. I felt like the letter sort of gave closure because it really put to rest any feelings i had of it being politically incorrect or hurtful. Starting a new thread seemed counter productive to putting it to bed i guess. |

Look, I wouldn't mind if they changed the name as long as it was still indian oriented and they kept the logo. the problem I think of is they would make them get rid of any indian theme all together which I find offensive in itself. I don't want Washington Redskins stuff to become collectors items I cant get a hold of because I don't have enough money because someone equates it with gay bashing or racism or whatever |

They were the sacred emblem of the Chinese emperor and so are emblazoned on government buildings, temples, etc., all over China. They also have a long history of marking important adult things in Japan, Vietnam, etc. Turning to Europe, Beowulf is hardly children's literature. Dragons were used on medieval maps such as the Lenox Globe. You need to learn about dragons. Besides, many kids are NFL fans, so having a kid-friendly mascot is not a bad idea. |

Have you guys read Sally Jenkins response to Dan's letter in the Washington Post? I can't stand her. Some politically correct person has to have the last word. Never change the name Mr. Snyder, if for no other reason than to continue to piss these kinds of people off! |

Washington Shutdowns. WeŽd just need a better Backfield.

Ironically, I know people (my Dad for instance) who absolutely hate it when teams/athletes are equated to soldiers. |

Those two just seem to hate the team. Whatever topic it is with the Skins, they never miss a chance to kill them. Id given Wise about 100 chances, but the Donovan interview was last straw. Sally just sux, never really liked her articles one way or the other. Quick note on the letter and sports jouranlism, it was really great to see Danny cite Richmond's very own Skins reporter Paul Woody's article and research. Woody always been fair and takes the time to actually do research on sports issues. You would like to think bigger papers would have the better journalist, certainly not in this case. These pieces of sh*t Mike Wise and Jenkins combined dont have the writing talent Paul Woody possesses. I look at the crap today in the big papers, yahoo, bleacher report, etc and its really damn sad as it is pathetic. |

Re: Darrell Green does not support Redskin name change
War Paint - Meaning of colors of War Paint, Body Paint or Face Painting
There were so many tribes of Native American Indians it is only possible to generalise the most common meanings of the colors and patterns of War Paint, Body Paint or Face Paint. ◾ Red Color Symbolizes war, blood, strength, energy, power and success in war paint but might also symbolise happiness and beauty in face paint ◾ Black was perceived as a "living" color and worn on the face to prepare for war. Very aggressive color. Black meant strength. It might also indicated that the wearer was a powerful warrior who had proved himself in battle. Black was also used to symbolize victory and might be applied before returning home to the camp ◾ White Color Symbolizes mourning. White was also the color of peace when it was used as face paint. ◾ Blue Color Symbolizes wisdom, confidence ◾ Yellow Color Symbolizes the color of death. Yellow also indicated that the wearer was heroic, had led a good life and was willing to fight to the death. It also symbolised intellect ◾ Green Color Symbolizes endurance. Green is associated with harmony and is a great healing power and believed to improve vision
Wow I never knew the colors symbolized anything. Thanks for info. I wonder if the teams colors are based on these as well? |

Wise on CNN this morning to discuss the name. Anyone else find it hypocritical that he takes money to appear on a show called Redskins Showtime?

This is posted to be purely funny on the issue of the name change.
A former Redskin shared this on his facebook page. No matter what side of the argument you are, you have to admit this is worth a chuckle: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151869703195139&set=a.10150909805445139.437398.67895825138&type=1&theater |
